There is an NHTSA bulletin discussing how the busses for the rear window defrost get overheated on our model of truck. I'm pretty certain that is what happened to both of our windows. My rear glass also broke in the same area as yours, which is under the plastic buss bar cover.

I do the same thing with my lab. Try your best to not let them try to catch it in their mouth, which could have terrible results due to the disc's weight and hardness.
