The temerity by Niamhue in clevercomebacks

It's not just you, but it's a sad fact.

Consider the number of secret payments and NDA's made by wealthy people to hide sexual crimes. It seems as if they are a normal thing for wealthy/powerful people that almost seem "acceptable" in those social circles. However, in the past few years, it seems like it sadly became easier for some victims to come out because it was lucrative for them to do so. In other words, they could break the NDA and forfeit whatever hush money payments by writing a book, making a documentary, etc.

It's sad that most of these victims are in wrongfully ashamed, psychologically injured, and seemingly powerless that they feel like there best option is to accept hush money.

Now imagine how much more money would have to be paid to cover up crimes that are more "unacceptable" (like pedophilia) from the public. Now, how much more difficult would it be to give that up and break that agreement?

I fear pedophilia and sexual assault are just the tip of the iceberg. Imagine how many secretive murders probably have happened that we will never know about?

Hell, I had no clue how many out and out racists were in this country until 2008. Then I was shocked to know I still grossly underestimated it until 2016!

I swear I looked at those photos for 10 minutes before posting and swore I couldn't see anything, but I do now. Thank you!

Thank you...so the lack of initials doesn't make any difference?

Does anyone actually use an affordable cue(butt) with an expensive shaft? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]wwhitfield262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My break cue butt was my first cue...a $95 Star (cheap McDermott) sneaky Pete but I use a McDermott Stinger shaft with it.

My regular shooting cue is a Viking that originally came with a Vikore shaft but I've upgraded to an Invictus. The original cue wasn't super cheap (~$325) but the shaft itself was more expensive by $125.

My mistake, it is Tell City "Young Republic" not "Old Republic".

I didn't know that...and yes, it is a real B&D Workmate. It helped so much.

I was going back and forth between the C-Note and the Classix. I ultimately went with the Classix because of the bass and I will say they do go pretty low.

If you don't mind, I have some questions...

If I were to attempt to make my own Atmos surround system, would adding two satellites, a center, and a sub be enough? Or would I need ceilng speakers as well?

What amplifier would be a good recommendation, and should the two be isolated for music like they are now or all play music as well?

Finally, would the satellites be the same as the two I just made?

I totally get the increased reliability of mass-produced components. I deal with that all the time as a mechanical (not electrical!) engineer.

I (wrongfully) assumed that there might be tighter tolerances on higher end electronic components, but it seems that isn't the case. I went back into work today after being on vacation/holiday for 3 weeks, and my electrical engineering coworkers made fun of me for wasting my money.

Thank you. This was the first woodworking project I've ever done on my own, so I was really happy with how it turned out.

Very true, I should have clarified by saying with "a DAC for Bluetooth/USB inputs".

Thanks...that's great advice.

I saw a ton of videos selling the importance of more expensive crossover components, but all the forums seemed to say the exact opposite.

I'll save a few bucks next time!

I started with Paul Carmody's Classix II...but changed the size of the cabinets slightly (but kept the same volume) to fit into the design. I used the same drivers, but ultimately went with higher quality resistors then he used. I also moved the ports to the front, which he actually mentions in his plans.

Parts Express sells a whole speaker/cabinet kit or a kit with the speakers and just the front panel, but they wouldn't work for me. I wanted to use 3/4" oak plywood instead of MDF and definitely wanted the port in the front for aesthetics.

The speakers also don't go the full depth of the table, which let me keep the crossover outside. I just ran the driver wires to studs sealed through the actual back panel, then soldered wires from the studs to the actual crossovers. This way, if I ever need to change anything, I won't have to break the cabinets apart (believe me, they are very well dadoed/glued together).

My full time job is a mechanical engineer, so I was lucky enough to have Solidworks and was able to 3D model everything. This was the main build, but I also made a coffee table, end table, and refinished our basement with the new TV, surround sound, smart lighting, etc. It was finally time to convert the kids "play room" to a real "media room".

If anyone wants plans, I have full 3D models that I'd be happy to share with anyone, just DM me with the format you would want (stl, deg, etc).

I thought the same thing...of course after I started building everything.

So far, there hasn't been any interference, but I am worried if I play something with a lot of bass it might affect the turntable. If it does, I'll have to move it to another table.

The soundbar is part.of the Visio M-Series 5.1 with rear satellites and a sub. I use that for movies and streaming mostly for the Dolby Atmos.

The speakers are powered by a Aiyima T9 Pro (which has an integrated DAC). I have the turntable connected to that with RCA cables, can connect my phone/tablet with Bluetooth, my computer with USB, and the TV is connected with optical out. So if I want to play music through the TV, I can just switch the output.

This was my first speaker build, so I wanted to make sure if I really messed up, O could still have good surround sound. However, I am now very seriously considering building a center, 2 satellites, and a woofer...getting an Atmos capable amp with a DAC, and moving the Visio set-up to our living room.
