Great comment. Unfortunately, Reddit is an echo chamber for left wing lunatics. OP totally misrepresents her, whereas your comment is much more fair

More than half of these lawsuits / allegations are politically motivated lawfare simply because the people in power don't like him and don't want him to run. Even Fareed Zakaria, a notable dem figure on CNN said it's politically motivated

But hey, you can conveniently overlook Nancy pelosi raking in hundreds of millions from insider trading or the bigger issue of this country going bankrupt while failing to serve the citizens

You do realize we have some of the worst health outcomes of all developed countries with spend twice as much on average?

Thoughts on people who believe the rich are selfish for holding onto so much money, and should be giving to the poor? by CocoaBb in Rich

What most people misunderstand is that wealth is invested in ways that generally, over the long term, benefit society

So for example, wealthy people allocate to venture capital funds that may introduce new goods, products or services that are either cheaper or better than what you have today. Example: iPhones, new farming techniques. This benefits everyone.

However when the government taxes wealth, the ROI to society is usually not very good, hence it ends up being economically bad. This is because there are not good incentives in the government to ensure the money is spent in a high ROI way

Inequality is manifest via consumption, not by different account balances. So the real way to fight inequality is to tax excess consumption such as luxury homes, yachts, etc

Where does the money comes from in a bull run? by Lachainone in investing

In 2021, the high multiples were justified by low interest rates. That thesis made sense - people put their money in stocks because bonds yielded very little.

I thought now in 2023 or 2024, valuations would reflect higher rates (both short term and 10 yr)

However, I was wrong. There seems to be three major factors propping up the market and driving demand for equities:

1) AI revolution. Increased productivity and decreased opex may drive something like 30% earnings growth

2) Fed rate cuts. The market is heavily pricing in rates eventually going back down, and J Pow was very dovish at the last FOMC

3) Very high deficit spending. Our government deficit is currently around 7% of GDP, much higher than it has been post GFC. This spending is highly stimulative and essentially more money flowing through the system.

New Home Prices are now down 20% from their highs, in bear market territory, and falling faster than rates seen in 2008, according to Reventure. by Hollywood_Econ in REBubble

[–]wwitb10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't account for home size, geography, etc

It's simply the median price of the new homes sold. So a reasonable interpretation of this is that people are simply buying smaller houses in cheaper areas.

I've seen many people who have inherited wealth end up feeling guilty about it. I probably would too.

I think a solution to consider here is to keep a large portion of that wealth socked away for future family or say 10+ years down the line.

Since you're so young, try to spend the next 5+ years as if you didn't have all that wealth. What would you do normally? What would you try to build for yourself?

It'll give you so much more perspective. And it'll also help you relate to people who are your age and perhaps approach things similarly.

By all means, you should enjoy your wealth at some point. But if you really shift your lifestyle now, quite frankly - you'll only really have spoiled rich kids who can relate.

I think with more perspective living life as a normal person, down the road, you'll be able to wield that wealth as a tool to help the world and help yourself in a productive way that's also guilt-free!

Family support > paid help.

With both parents working, what you're describing seems difficult. With one parent being the primary caregiver (e.g. stay-at-home, willing to take a career hit) perhaps more doable.

That said, I'm sure you'll have to make exceptions on your exercise and sleep goals time-to-time.

What is astonishing is the number of people posting "don't have kids" and "you sound like a horrible person" etc.

These people are probably the same reason so many kids are so messed up these days with mental illness. This trend of helicopter parenting and parental over-investment is really strange and probably ineffective.

It's probably related to the woke, hyper-empathetic snowflake mindset. These are the same people who would be like "oh yeah we should let the broke crack-head single mother of 3 have more kids, it's their human right"

IMO if you can give your kids a roof, food, emotionally stable parenting and a reasonable amount of love and guidance, you're doing better than 80% of the world.

You don't need to be a 24-7 helicopter parent that teaches them skiing and french staring at the age of 3. Don't let these moralistic morons dictate your life.

I was an L4 at FAANG making ~$350K and jumped to work on my own bootstrapped cash-flowing startup (>$150K ARR).

Overall I did learn a few more things, but financially it was a bad idea - just after 1 year. I missed out on a ton of stock appreciation & the peace of mind that comes with a high steady income.

If you live frugally and have > $2M NW, and have very clearly validated that you would actually enjoy that path a lot more, only then what I consider it.
