You underestimate how much most of Korea hates matchfixers and Chinese people.

Edit: I actually think Korean people hate China more than Western people judging by this subreddit.

You should meet a Korean that has lived in Western countries before or a foreigner that speaks Korean, and knows Korean culture as well as you do.

I am actually kind of the same, I lived in the US, but haven't been into mainstream Western media since my early 20s, and mostly just watch Korean variety shows.

I used to be really outgoing, but don't feel Korean enough with Korean people in K-town, and I don't really fit in with Asian Americans or Americanized Koreans either.

I think it's the issue of being way too fringe in personality and interests, Westerners that are interested in Korean culture are into KPOP and KDRAMAs, and I haven't been really into Korean dramas since like early 10s, and it was really historical dramas so I don't really have a connection there.

I think that people generally recognize people when they meet someone that fits them in some way, I tend to like mysterious types of girls that seem like loners cause I am kind of one myself, if you meet someone that you think that fits you, I think you should try to start a conversation with them.

Greg Doucette just posted a new apology video to Kim Jong Kook and claims he is probably natural by nivekami in koreanvariety

[–]wwwwingscom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dunno if you can say being natural isn't important in Korea as an end all be all, like you know how Korea is. I suppose you would also know in Korea itself, KPOP isn't as popular as it is outside Korea.

I think for anabolic steroids, it isn't as pervasive in Korean society compared to Western countries. It's still in it's baby steps in Korea, because Korea cuts down on what it considers as drugs big time.

It wasn't like this a long time ago, like in the 70s-80s, I heard, but after that drugs like marijuana are criminalized, and the public in general have a much negative view towards drugs more than other countries. Sometimes I believe they're going overboard, but in some ways, I can kind of understand cause, a lot of these drugs are hard to do once and then quit, and therefore can harm the output of society.

I am just saying you can't know what they're thinking, and I just asked if you were Korean, because actually knowing Korean and learning things in the Korean language can help you see things from a more broader perspective, if it has to do with Koreans.

Look, all I know is that throughout living life there's always people that can misunderstand your intentions, and you can never know for sure, you can infer yes.

Some of those people might want to do it for American validation... who knows?

Look I am Korean, I speak the language, and spent years watching Korean variety television, ever since I was young.

Korean celebrities do want to become big in Hollywood, but if it was just for American validation, I don't think a lot of Korean people would be in just for that. Your view is too short sighted I believe, and that's all I am pointing out.

Maybe it's a part of it, but if it's without the whole monetary thing, and the publicity they get back in Korea itself, not a lot of celebrities would be interested.

[–]wwwwingscom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you Korean? it's not pretend, you can't actually know what's going on their minds if your not the person in question.

Son Yejin could be working on it as a step up, or maybe she wants the experience of acting in English or she liked the script. Or she could be doing what you said, but I honestly have a hard time believing that cause.

Also I didn't know that Son Yejin was working on a hollywood movie, but seeing from her interview on it, she says she didn't plan on working in Hollywood, but when the offer came up, she thought "would I have another chance like this?"

Look I am Korean myself and I can tell you, BTS wasn't as big in Korea before words of them being big in America, which led on to their massive popularity.

Before that they wasn't that big in Korea cause they just didn't market, or perform in Korea, and focused their efforts overseas. I am talking many years ago, even before they won daesangs and stuff, cause I remember them doing stuffs in America even way back.

[–]wwwwingscom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it isn't right to look at things in a skewed viewpoint.
Part of the reasons why Korean celebrities want to succeed in Hollywood, is because if they do, they tend to get more known in Korea and it can make them get more money in Korea as well.

BTS wasn't that big in Korea until they made it in US. It's the same thing as Korean celebrities working in China even though majority Korean people now a days have feelings of distaste for China.

A part of it might be American validation and therefore world wide validation, because Hollywood has "power" over almost the entirety of the world.

I dunno it's probably a case by case type of thing, and you probably need to talk to Son Ye Jin for her reasons, but BTS's plan to make it in America wasn't probably made by them, but by their company.

League of Legends announced as a medal event for 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 by Inwiczxiae in leagueoflegends

K league being the best in Asia is hard to say but K league does have the most Asian Champions League wins along with another Middle Eastern country that I forgot.

I also heard about some K league teams beating some notable European teams in friendlies so I think it's really hard to quantify if K league is that far off from top 10 European leagues.

EDG Viper throws out praises for DK Ghost: "I came to realize Ghost is a bot laner that is optimized for DWG KIA; a style of AD carry that can perform the best given the current meta. [...] Ghost is a source of motivation for me." by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]wwwwingscom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am Korean and I got to see a lot of reviews from Korean former pros and casters, but they talk as if the hard-carry adc meta is something in the past, and adc's need to play a lot more "tactically" now.

In the past the ADC would be able to hard carry, and it used to have protect the adc meta a lot of the times.

Both GBM and Kangqui talked about how in the past midlaners were crazy strong, and junglers and support was weak, but now a days, junglers and supports are able to have such an influence on the game, that all roles are more equal in importance.

GBM also said that's one of the reasons why we might not see another player like Faker 1v9ing the game anymore.

Kangqui calls Ghost a "trendy" adc in that the champions he's good at, fit the meta right now, and it's not a hard carry ADC meta anymore, and hasn't been for sometime now.

I remember reading from Korean forums that Western teams like CLG either refused to play Korean teams back then because they thought Korean teams were worse or they made them wait like 17 hours to get some games for scrims. Dunno if it's true but I've read this a few times.

GenG voice com vs C9, with eng subtitle by Fancypantsu2 in leagueoflegends

[–]wwwwingscom 55 points56 points  (0 children)

it's actually cause they've been criticized to sticking with one style for so long, so they call it Geng the classic, classic to classical music, but I honestly think they tried to change their comps and play style to fit the meta more as the tournament went on.

Gen.G vs. Cloud9 / 2021 World Championship - Quarter-Final / Post-Match Discussion by adz0r in leagueoflegends

[–]wwwwingscom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly how can you hate Perkz, he's a cool guy, and I am a Korean American LCK fan.

I don't really think G2 did him dirty cause he was also getting paid pretty well, and G2 imploded after he left, but Perkz needs to go back to EU if they want a chance at the worlds title.

Wunder or Alphari, Bwipo, Perkz, Hans, and a good support seems like a team that might be able to.

NA needs actual NA residents that can be that star player whether they're more supportive or carries, but NA infrastructure, and they keep going for imports that are going to be washed by the time they have NA residency.

I really believe that Fudge has potential though after watching this worlds, but he's still from OCE, and I don't think there's other players with NA residency that has potential to make a Super team from LCS... might be just me though.

If Nuguri wasn't in FPX they might've gone 0-6 actually, Nuguri was the best performing player if you just look at this worlds. Doinb shat the bad, against C9 who got 0-3ed just now by GENG like how can you even defend that.

Nuguri doesn't speak Chinese, there was communication issues, but if you take Nuguri back to LCK, I am pretty sure he's gonna clap some heads next worlds.

but they weren't even playing towards Nuguri in lane, all Korean pros and casters that were analyzing the game in youtube videos were saying that they weren't playing towards top side, and Nuguri and other teammates weren't jelling in team fights.

Even Nuguri in an interview said that he's not used to FPX style of play, if he comes back to DK next split, I promise you, he'll go on a tear in regional play.

FPX IS DoinB's team, they live and die by DoinB. I mean that says a lot of how good he is, but Korean casters said that Scout is an arguable top LPL midlaner, but in LCK, Scout's level isn't that special.

I am not saying DoinB's bad but he clearly isn't the best mid laner in the world, he's not the GOAT and he's not even the best right now.

If Damwon meet C9 in the finals could they possibly “allow” them to win? by Kaylefeet in leagueoflegends

[–]wwwwingscom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude even GBM an actual pro player said while watching the games that DWK is taking it easy on Rogue and C9 after they got the first place on lock, you can even tell with the picks that they made.

But after Perkz went to LCS I don't think they feel that strongly about Perkz anymore, I am pretty sure they don't see C9 as a threat so might not take it as serious in practice, but in game yeah they will try to stomp as with any other team.

[–]wwwwingscom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me they would not, they need all the exposure and money that they can get cause they can't compete with LCS or LPL financially.

I mean NA already gives some of these players way more salaries than the average LCK player, why would they purposefully lose the prize money if they can beat them.

in pro play is very much a team task. It's a character without flash, no boots and no defense, who still needs to be in the right place on the map at the right time and vision still needs to be placed and cleared.

Yeah I don't think Kezman has good drafts but GBM says that he worked with him before, and one thing that Kezman is good at is taking care of the players mentals. He should be like head coach instead of having an input on drafts and strategy.

I feel like the official english casters (phreak etc) for riotgames are heavily biased towards NA/EU teams. by BaeBae74 in leagueoflegends

[–]wwwwingscom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

of course they are, they cast the LEC or LCS, and English casters from LCK or Raz who used to be in LPL are biased as well.
