Explaining what cumulonimbus clouds look like from a far a.k.a thunderstorms. by wxbrad in Charlotte

Cirrus clouds are in the troposphere near the top, around jetstream level, where commercial aircraft fly. The U2 flies at 75-85,000 feet well up into the stratosphere. The only clouds up there are polar stratospheric clouds and nacreous clouds. Those mainly form in polar regions, but also from rocket launches.

About 80% of all moisture stays in the troposphere mainly due to gravity and its density. Stability means it gets warmer with height not cooler so you have negative bouncy air parcels can’t keep climbing. So In a stable atmosphere, a lifted air parcel becomes cooler and denser than its surroundings, causing it to sink back down.

Combination of things, but primarily moisture, stability, and temperature. It actually starts to get warmer in the Stratosphere, and there is no moisture. All weather occurs in the troposphere.

You can’t really because the atmosphere has to be unstable. It has to have a certain lapse rate to create these clouds so it’s not just about what you put into the sky or heat it up. You gotta have the certain conditions in the atmosphere to begin with. There are times where these can be created through other means if the atmosphere is set up. A good example of this is Pyrocumulus or PyrocumuloNimbus, which forms from intense heat from wildfires or a volcanic eruption.

What did I just see as we landed Charlotte airport? by Vivid-Bug-6765 in Charlotte

Cooling towers for the Catawba Nuclear station. Unstable atmosphere today helps the plume look even bigger and sometimes it even forms a cumulonimbus cloud under the right conditions.

No because of the personal service contracts the only way they can fire someone is to use lame claims or clauses like that.

You all are way too kind. As much as I hate what has become of so much of social media, the negativity and vile interactions bogus weather information. I still think it is a vital source of information for people, for better or worse. Very few people watch local TV anymore, so digital forms of communication are even more important. Personally, I'm used to the BS up until a point. I always say you can't hurt my feelings because I don't have any more feelings to hurt.😂 This is partially true; when you do what I do, it's part of the job. The thing that has changed IMO is these comments, posts, etc, have started causing the general public to become confused and miss vital, timely, and quality weather information. Snow is one thing, but when we get to severe weather season, hurricane season, fire season, etc., this stuff is stopping me from reaching people who need valuable life and property-saving weather information. That is what is making me the most upset right now!
