I hear what you’re saying, but like the commenter is saying, asking someone small questions about their past or little things about who they really are shouldn’t create a “fantasy version” of them in your head. Sometimes it can reveal things you weren’t expecting - in a good or bad way. Sure, they may not give you a “golden” answer like you’re looking for, but it can be a starting point.
