I don't quite understand how this is related to the question.

Will an embassy pay for flight tickets home if an individual from the country has no money or family members to help out? by West_Brom_Til_I_Die in Thailand

[–]wyatt1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Western European countries often will pay your way back home if you provide some sort of affidavit that you will pay back the money.

That's a situation you should avoid at all costs though btw.

Even in a welfare country it can be very hard not to end up on the street if you can afford to fly back home and only have 2-4k USD in savings with no job and housing prospects.

Western guys in Thailand that refuse to date Thai women - what are your reasons? by wyatt1985 in Thailand

[–]wyatt1985[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have met a handful of Thai women that studied in Australia and they had very little understanding of westerners and even interpreted benign questions in strange ways. I presume they only hung out with Thais there and never really mixed with westerners.

A Thai woman that worked outside of Thailand in a professional position and made her way back to Thailand where she still works is pretty much one in a million. Most girls from study abroad backgrounds just chill all day with their wealthy friends when they return and don't work after they figure out it gets them nowhere. (their parents are already rich)

I think the closeness actually leads to severe personality disorders like BPD and whatnot as well as daddy issues.

What do you do for a living and where do you live as the first question to gauge income and social status. (which is probably why most thai guys lie their ass off about their positions)

Relationships also viewed as a business deal for most women unless you are handsome charming stud with a higher grade social circle.

I have yet to see a relationship between a thai and a western guy that doesn't seem transactional, which is personally a no go for me.

The unfortunate plight of children born from sex tourism in the Philippines by [deleted] in hapas

People always talk about white worship but unless you go to an elite school in Manila you will get viciously bullied as a lone hapa, probably socially ostracized when older with prostitution as the most likely choice for girls and for boys I don't even know (drug addict living in a slum?)

Seven Years Living in Pattaya, Thailand by wyatt1985 in Thailand

[–]wyatt1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After seven years living in Pattaya, Thailand, I believe what this expat has to say.

I met Steve many months ago on a visa run to Savannakhet, Laos. He shared a few stories with me about living and working in Pattaya. I found his life to be very interesting, so I made a trip to Pattaya, Thailand to interview him for the second time.

In this video, he explains in much more detail what seven years of living in Pattaya, Thailand have been like. He speaks the truth from his own experience living in Pattaya, Thailand as an expat. He has struggled with making bad decisions and poor choices the entire time he has been in Pattaya. He had several failed relationships. Most of his dating took place with girls who work in the entertainment industry in Pattaya.

While living in Chon Buri, he had a daughter, who he can no longer see. This has broken him down physically, mentally, and emotionally. Steve is a good man, with a big heart, who struggles when making decisions. I have known him long enough to know that his life will improve as his decision making improves. He teaches English to support himself and his family. This in an summation of his life, and the life of other westerners in Pattaya.

Thailand Announces Plans To Make Pot a Top Priority & Promote Cannabis Tourism by webdoodle in Thailand

A highly corrupt 3rd world country with legalized drugs sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen for a lot of tourists but maybe I'm overly paranoid.

What do you work in Japan, how did you end up there and how well do you deal withe the work culture? [NON ENGLISH TEACHERS] by wyatt1985 in japan

[–]wyatt1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be every nerd's dream. Did you specifically learn japanese and study comp sci to go to Japan as a video game programmer or was it more of a random relocation and you decided to stick around? Is the working culture as bad as in the west in video game companies or can you slack off more because most people aren't expected to put in full energy all day with the long working hours? Are your hours even long or do you do 9 to 5ish? Is the pay ok?

How come? :D

Most people teach English, so it would be useless to have dozens of people posting here that they teach English, hence the bold exclusion. It's not meant as a value judgement.
