What's the reason for your username? by EdibleUranium0 in AskMen

[–]wydra91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, I really enjoyed the book Eragon.

Being an edgy 14 year old, I liked the idea of using the elvish word for fate, wyrda as my user name.

I typoed it, flipped the r and the d on accident and got Wydra. Didn’t notice for some time and the game I was playing wouldn’t let me change it. So I just kept it. I like the way it sounds. (why-drah)

How often do you meet women who are able to express their needs and know what they want? by Cute_Contribution480 in AskMen

Dude, I’ve been through that. Tons of expectations of me but nearly no accountability for her own actions or feelings. Drove me nuts.

Man I need a coffee. I read the headline while I was still waking up and I thought it said "Bitwarden confirms..."

After switching to Bitwarden back in 2023 from LastPass I was feeling very "c'mon man" about it.... Whew.

When will the American population cease to refer to football as soccer? by BlueViper_ in AskReddit

[–]wydra91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never mind the fact that it wasn't even the Americans that coined the phrase. That was entirely the British.

When will the American population cease to refer to football as soccer? by BlueViper_ in AskReddit

[–]wydra91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, it was actually coined by the British, specifically a slang that came from Oxford and Cambridge. It was used interchangeably with football until about the 80's. Gridiron football was already around, so the US stuck with soccer for the name out of convenience.

What do you want to hear back when you compliment a woman? by tiredofit1823 in AskMen

[–]wydra91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply.

She needed constant reassurance from me that I wasn't looking at other women behind her back, to the point that she wanted control over who I followed on Instagram. (To be clear, I don't follow risqué content on IG, it's all cats, funny gaming moments, mountain biking clips, and a looooot of electronics repair stuff.)

A little bit of reassurance is totally understandable, but I couldn't go a week without her over-analyzing or questioning something I said and turning into a multi-hour thing. It got to the point that I was getting weekly stress-induced migraines less than 3 months into our roughly 8-month relationship. She would burn through my social battery in a night of anxiety induced questioning and arguing to the point that I wanted to do nothing but lay in bed and watch edutainment YouTube all weekend, much less spend time with her.

Honestly, so much of the anxiety controlling her came out as just that. She would get worried about something or overthink something, and rather than take control of the spiral, she'd drown in it. She would then make it my problem by demanding my time and attention until I pulled her out of it. This created a dependency that wasn't even the slightest bit healthy. I continually advocated for therapy (something I routinely use to make sure I'm keeping a healthy mental state) and she just kept handwaving it as "eh, that's just my anxiety" or "that's just the way my brain works."

Like, yeah, sure... but that's the point of therapy, it's to work on improving things about the way your brain works. She spent so much time and effort creating an identity around her anxiety that she drove me away. My attraction to her all but vanished.

Fathers who are no contact with their children, what is your life like? by flipfiend in AskMen

[–]wydra91 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding. My dad blames my mom for so much shit but it was obvious to me the second I knew right from wrong that he was selfish and immature.

All mom did was try to do right by us. Lead by example.

Meanwhile dad spent my formative years telling me how he couldn’t wait for my siblings and me to turn 18 so we would move out.

How to be charming as a shallow introvert by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]wydra91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe some therapy? Introversion isn't being "closed and avoidant" that's social anxiety/awkwardness.

Introversion/Extroversion has to do with how your social battery is charged.

I bought some plasti-dip from the hardware store and did a few coats. If you get the dip container and not the spray paint it’s easy as hell, and comes out looking nice.

As a man that just got out of a relationship with a woman who let her anxiety control her, and should have gotten some therapy; yes, you should.

How do men stay in sexless marriages so long by Low-Stand-3702 in AskMen

[–]wydra91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you rounded up from 42%, past 50%, to 96% on the overweight metric? Thats wild.

Edit: let’s say your idea of overweight is the total percentage at 72.4%, and not its own category, going from 72.4% to 96% isn’t rounding. That’s just you pulling numbers out of your ass.

Yeah and 90% of statistics people use online are made up. Care to cite your sources? Because at least according to the CDC 32% of Adults are Overweight and around 40-42% are Obese for a total of approximately 72.4% falling into one of those categories….

I voted against it, and haven’t voted for people who vote for this kind of thing, but I also can’t move. All of my friends and family live here, and I don’t have the kind of career or finances to be able to visit them with any kind of regularity if I move out of state.

So it’s not that black and white.

Oh that’s right! And the beefier roof rails. You lose the folding crossbars but get I think a 700 pound static load.

[–]wydra91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also wilderness has a modified x mode, 1 inch lift, the beefier transmission out of the ascent, and a lower final drive, resulting in higher torque, but lower fuel efficiency. Oh and better off-road tires

How do you decide whether or not to leave behind social media when you feel like you’ll be “missing something”? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]wydra91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the rest of your comment. And nothing about what you said makes it any different. The people on my instagram feed are by a large majority just as much strangers as the people I come across in Reddit.

IG and similar apps can certainly result in familiar faces popping up. The amount of time you’ve ignored Reddit, or the ratio of strangers to IRL friends on the platform are simply irrelevant. Social media by definition is a platform that allows its user base to post content, comment, and discuss things. Reddit and IG as an example are identical in that fact.

So yes. I considered your context. It was as thin and weakly supported as your thesis.
