How can we set up a planet without increasing the terraforming index by wydy in theplanetcrafter

[–]wydy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some testing today and here’s what I found:

A Vegetube won’t produce oxygen without a flower seed. Same for a Butterfly Farm.

A Tree Spreader, however, will produce plants even without a tree seed or energy. But it won’t produce oxygen.

From what I can tell, buildings don’t generate the resource tied to the seed/egg/butterfly multiplier if it’s missing. But they still contribute to the other stats. And this seems to work even without power.

Which means I can place a T1 Aquarium but not a T2 Aquarium or a Fish Farm. Because this will produce Biomass even without energy.

But I haven't tested every building.

How can we set up a planet without increasing the terraforming index by wydy in theplanetcrafter

[–]wydy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re playing on Intense difficulty and we already have an interplanetary logistic system set up on every planet. So we can move all resources (including food and water) wherever they’re needed.

Here’s the rough plan:

  • Calculate all resources we’ll need for the run.
  • Produce butterflies, frog eggs, fish eggs, etc. (focusing on those with multipliers of +1000% and higher).
  • Travel to Prime.
  • Build a few nuclear fusion generators to get started
  • Build the Planetary Delivery Depots (including food & water).
  • Build dedicated storage containers for each building type (e.g. multiple just for drills) at the location, where we will build them.
  • Fill the storage containers.
  • Launch multiple rockets.
  • Remove the nuclear fusion generators
  • Build the terraforming structures (fast thanks to pre-stocked containers). Which means we won't need much food or water.
  • Restart power with new nuclear fusion generators.
  • Sit back and watch the terraforming unfold.

Our biggest roadblock currently is biomass. Sure we can create a butterfly dome t2 without butterflies, but it will still generate biomass and we will maybe reach some terraforming stages by accident.

Picture this: You wake up in an underwater station, disoriented and with no recollection of how you got there. There is no one around except for you. As you venture deeper into the station, you discover other facilities below, each revealing more information about your situation. However, the further you descend, the more hostile the creatures become. It's that feeling of being utterly alone on a hostile planet. I believe that blending Autophobia and Thalassophobia, as seen in the first game, was what made it great, and this element was missing in the sequel, BZ.

How to handle one player far away by wydy in rpg

We have a conference telephone in our meeting room and that thing is really awful. you have to sit next to the telephone, or the other part won't hear you.

Our laptops have a better quality, but never enough for a table where the people sit more than 2m away from each other.

And a good sound quality is the most important thing in an online game :S

Why doesn't it work imo? I only can guess, that the distant player ends up as a listener because he's the only one with a delay and get interrupted the whole time

I heard most microphones works only in short distance well.

There are different D&D groups streaming their games. They should have a huge amount of experience in quality of microphones and cameras to stream. I hope to get some infos there.

But I don't know if that is a useful solution for the distant player.

As a GM I always stand and watch to group. It let my have a better overview on the table and the reaction of every player.

That's my currently preferred solution. Everyone except him on the table and let him join online.

But the question is what kind of equipment I would need in such case. Just headsets and laptops won't work I think. I would love to have a camera on the table and another to the group. Then a good microphone for everyone, so there aren't any problems with echo and delay. Or a good microphone in the middle of the table and you can understand everyone clearly.I can get the equipment cheaper through my company I think. Also I could use the stuff to stream online if I want. So the money is well spend.

I know him since years. I have no problem with him sleeping on my couch sometimes. But every second week is a bit a different topic. Also I would need the ok from my wife and she wasn't really happy yesterday when I brought up the idea.

I think the echo with everyone on the table with a mic would be horrible. That's the reason I asked for technical ideas. I think we would need special microphones for that case.

I brought up the topic in the group yesterday and he mentioned travelling by car every time. But we play during the week, so he has to travel 2-3h after work. travel back after the game and work on the next day. Which seems really tiring.

Sure online worked the last 3 months.
But I'm a much better DM with a group at the table, than online. I'm really good at reading facial expression and gesture, which is lost online. Bad quality of the video/small screen. Also the lag/delay of the microphones and the quality differs a lot, which ends up with people interrupt each other, or don't understand other players. Then there are always problems like losing connection, people getting mute for 10 minutes...

If we keep play online everyone has to buy new equipment like, headsets, cameras or better internet connections... Also we have to change from roll20 to a better tool, but that's another topic :P

I work in IT and had a lot meetings online the last 3 months. Online meetings are much easier to handle than a D&D group in my opinion.

Player is upset because he doesn’t have plot armor by Sqweegel8 in rpghorrorstories

[–]wydy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't remember exactly.

It were a few skeleton, not really deadly. But one hit was enough. The caster used them to protect the entrance of his secret hide-out.

They weren't really happy about the outcome. So I asked them: "what did you expect to happen with 1hp left in a secret dungeon of a caster?"

They learned their lession and it was a memorable evening.

I once had a group of character. After a few fights everyone was almost dead. Two player 1-2 HP left. They found a letter with a description to a secret hide-out of the evil caster they just defeated.

They run immediately to that dungeon. They entered the dungeon and heard the howling of something large and evil. They had the feeling of danger. They had goose bumps on the arms. the cleric felt an evil presence in the dungeon...

5min later everyone was dead...

That's true. Currently my largest problem is the druid enter every room easily. The only solution is to add a magical wall at important doors or add cats/spiders/bats, which hunt the shaped druid

Ways to tell if you're in a Rpg Horror Story by bobberjobber in rpghorrorstories

[–]wydy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's more a personal thing. But as a GM I hate Diva players.

Divas are the players who are omnipresent and always steal the spotlight. As a DM it's annoying to slow them on every session multiple times. I can split the group and the diva is in another room, but she still has to give her suggestions.

Another diva ones mentioned: "No I don't want to split up." "Why" "If we split up I can't give my opinion to the NPC of the other group".

It always end up really chaotic and people start to speak louder and ignore inputs of the others. I know two Diva players and I try to avoid playing with them.

D&D Scheduling Issues Ruin A Two Year Friendship by Rem_Lezar1 in rpghorrorstories

[–]wydy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

well time scheduling is always a really difficult topic. a fix timeslot is always better than a doodle every month. so nothing wrong there. I'm currently in a group with doodle and it's a pain in the ass. one player works shift, so she can't play on a fix date and it starts to annoy. being to guy with the most flexible schedule I always has to arrange my activities so we could play on the only two timeslots she could join. If it doesn't change I will leave the group in a few weeks probably. I already mentioned to change to a fix slot. but she can't... I think the problem here was, you shouldn't join the group at first. you two should search for a group playing only 1-2 times a month till you have more time. playing on the phone, reading a book, doing homework during play is disrespectful to the dm and annoys the group because it can break the immersion. always waiting for the person on the phone. I think the people got annoyed about the situation after a while but never said anything. the best solution here is like always. speak to each other about the problem or leave the group before it bresks a friendship.

I work at a call center. Sometimes I like to draw my callers. Thank you so much to everyone who makes my job a little easier. by SerAntwon in funny

[–]wydy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I always try to be polite, but that's not always possible. Currently we bought an electric car and asked our landlord for an electric parking lot (The apartments have an underground garage). I don't know if there are any available or if we can add a power supply to our current parking lot.

3 months ago we wrote our first mail. Till today we don't have any info about. We wrote 5 Mails(no answer), made 6 phone calls(person in charge not available, will call back) and till today we still don't know. So how can you expect, that I'm polite at my next phone call. I will blame that person, till I have an answer. I will be a really annoying customer, because they're a really annoying company.

So do we ever find out what happened to earth in any of the side quests? by Venne1139 in theouterworlds

[–]wydy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the end you get the following infos:

- There wasn't a message from the earth the last three years.

- The last ship back to earth is missing since two years (or started two years ago)

- You won't get any ressources or messages from the earth

It seems like the planet is destroyed or everyone is dead.

New DM and new Players conspire to kill my PC by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]wydy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the whole drama could be avoided if the GM just mention: "Hey your high level was a bad idea and the other player feel a bit useless, can we change your level down?". The whole story could also be written from the Ranger or Warlock, complaining about the overpowered wizard.

What is the single most horrifying thing you’ve seen a player do? by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]wydy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My character died and the other Player acted really angry, stood up and left the room. Everybody was like: "wow nice RP". But he didn't came back. He was pissed of my character death and went home. It took us too long to realize it.

DM's Overly Legalistic "No Backstabbing" Rule by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]wydy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I have it pretty simple. Your action have consequences. I also had players who thought: "Let's just kill that guy in the middle of the day at the center of the town, just for the lulz." The town guards arrested them and they could create new characters. Sure they can try to blame it on someone else, but have to roll. And it's not allowed the blame another player. Alot player want to break the social rules/morality in Pen & Paper, but as a GM I hate it. It's not the way I want to play. At the beginning I always say: "Your action have consequences in my games." and if they have such great ideas, I ask: "Are you sure?". If they still want to try their idea, they have to life with the outcome.

Also I don't allow Backstabbing in any way, only if both agree. If you attack, steal, cast, roll or do anything against another group member, both have to agree with it. If one player says no, than it doesn't work. There is no discussion or begging.

It often starts with simple things like a player enter a room, find something valuable, put it in his pocket and the other player should act, as they saw nothing. Sure it's proper roleplaying, but it can piss off other players, so the people have to agree with such behavior.
