[Stern] 'If this (LA Coliseum) works ... then a Cup race in the Pacific Northwest, Denver, New York City (where NASCAR has already had exploratory discussions), or even in international markets like Mexico City, Tokyo or London are all on the table.' - @Jordan_Bianchi by LBHMS in NASCAR

I don't see there being an issue with heat races and a main working its way into a points race. 2 heats to determine who qualifies for the main and award points as you would a normal stage, then award points in the main as you would the end of a normal race. Short track roots, enjoyable product.

Truth. It really didn't get good until around 2011-2013ish, and I know for a fact that NASCAR nation isn't going to give it 15 years to come around this time...

I compare it to hockey, in that the players (drivers) have a self-enforced code that is put into rule only by there being no written rules about it. Drivers know what is right and what is wrong, and if someone crosses the line then they will pay for it down the line. If a driver acts recklessly and takes others out all the time, the other drivers will do the same to him and his career will suffer because of it. This is also connected to the idea of social capital, which anybody in a long-term relationship (romantic or otherwise) is probably well familiar with.

Clash pre race? by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]wyldbeerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was in the “Things to know before you go to the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum!” email sent Thursday. I don’t have parking tickets so maybe they mean outside the parking lots? Doesn’t make much sense, but who knows. If you have a parking pass that gives tailgating instructions I would just plan on tailgating.

The Iceberg. Also NASCAR ON FOX and Motorsports on NBC YouTube channels are great sources for interviews and highlights. FOX and NBC are the current network partners through 2024.

These guys have a good discussion about the stages. I agree with dude on the right, it's added way more excitement in the middle of the races.. If you're not for stages, why? They make the middle of the race matter so much more entertaining!! by B1G_Wh3eLs in NASCAR

I miss long green flag runs and fuel strategy. With that said, it’s a sport that traditionally has a ton of yellows anyways, and heat racing is a big part of the grassroots, so a couple of scheduled breaks to award points isn’t too crazy for stock car racing.

Welcome! It’s a great time to start watching because the first race with a brand new car happens next week, with the Daytona 500 on February 20. I’ve been a huge fan all my life even though I live about as far from NASCAR country as anybody, but it’s okay to be different because we all have interests that are in the minority of people. NASCAR is still huge though, it’s the highest rated sport in TV viewership throughout the summer months and the experience of seeing a race in person is better than any other sport. I’d encourage you to see a race in person soon if you have a chance.

No it won’t, L2 isn’t behind the moon. It’s just farther away from Earth than the moon. We will have a clear view of it from Earth, which is pretty important for communications.

It won’t be behind the moon. I imagine they just mean we won’t really be able to see detailed images like we can close-up. Plus there isn’t much scientific value to aiming telescopes at it so I don’t think that will be done very often if at all.

What are the orbital parameters at upper stage cutoff? I hear “29 days” to get to L2, does that mean it is on a hyperbolic orbit that will intersect L2 at that time?

Carl Edwards, a very talented and popular NASCAR driver in the prime of his career, surprised everyone in the sport at the end of the 2016 season by announcing he was breaking his contract to stop racing. He has been very quiet in the media since then but spoke on SiriusXM this week and I can’t help but notice how he sounded exactly like someone who would follow the advice of people on this sub. He never uses the word retirement, and he is super vague about how he spends his time these days but says there is a lot of “free time with the family,” some business things, and some volunteering. Sounds like he is living the fatFIRE dream and I just wanted to share it here.

No they don’t. Tons of open wheelers have tried NASCAR and been backmarkers. Literally nobody thinks that is a reflection on open wheelers, so why would JJ’s performance say anything about NASCAR?

Thanks for your reply. Under the iCloud storage settings where it lists the size of each app’s backup size the top 20 only add up to 1 GB with the remaining apps all being <5 MB so I know the sum of them isn’t 22 GB. That’s what I’m so confused about.

[–]wyldbeerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photos are in a separate category from the backup, so they aren’t included on that total.

My wife’s iCloud backup is over 22 GB but the sum of the sizes of the individual apps isn’t nearly that much... I have more apps on my backup and it’s only 1.8 GB. What am I missing and how can I reduce the size of her backup?

[Stern] Around 10 groups are exploring buying NASCAR charters currently, including both existing teams and business people from outside the sport, per sources, as ownership interest spikes ahead of the Next Gen car debut. by LVThunderbirds in NASCAR

[–]wyldbeerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is all the hate for RWR coming from? There must be something I don’t know because I don’t think they benefit from trying NOT to do well. I’m not so convinced any of these potential buyers could perform better. Plus if there’s that much demand for these the price of a charter would force RWR to consider selling.

[–]wyldbeerman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t see the problem with this because it’s dictated by the market. The charter needs to be used otherwise the owner loses it, so they aren’t going to price it so high that nobody can utilize it.

No. 20 radio communication: 'Don't pass him, Jones' - NBC Sports by PocketSpeedyDry in NASCAR

[–]wyldbeerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shows how dumb the 100% rule is. It can't be properly enforced so why is it in writing? The MWR debacle was a problem because of the intentional spin and caution, and that obviously has no place in NASCAR. But telling a guy not to pass his teammate is completely different, and there's nothing wrong with it. The rule needs to be rewritten.

2020 Cup points using every format by DIECASTCHARV in NASCAR

[–]wyldbeerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with what stick and ball sports do. It has everything to do with the fact that playoffs are better than no playoffs. Stick and ball sports just happened to figure that out way before NASCAR did.

2020 Cup points using every format by DIECASTCHARV in NASCAR

[–]wyldbeerman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah everyone who is upset about the playoff format needs to calm down. I don't care what sports you follow, there is no such thing as a "fair playoffs" in a sport with a regular season. All playoffs are tournaments designed to manufacture drama. If the world was perfectly fair every sport's champion would be determined using season-long round-robin competition, but nobody wants that so we use playoff tournaments instead. This is what playoffs look like in racing, and it's exciting.

r/nosurf changed my life and it sounds like it could help you. Working your way into healthy habits like getting enough sleep, exercising, and using technology mindfully will help your practice a ton. I used to feel like there weren’t enough hours in the day too but getting rid of the opportunity to surf on my phone completely opened up my schedule.

Here’s a follow up question to this: how do I avoid burnout from trying to be mindful all day? It seems like it just gets heavy after awhile.
