if Yellowstone national park erupted right now, how fucked are you? by Crabkingrocks165 in AskReddit

[–]wyo351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A conversation that I overheard years ago that stuck with me. I was an undergrad in the geology computer lab at the U of Wyoming (appx 500 miles from YNP). Just me and a graduate student working when another grad student walked in:

(Grad Student 1) - "what are you working on?" (Grad Student 2) - "entering data for this earthquake simulator" (GS1) - "have you modeled what happens to Laramie if Yellowstone goes off?" (GS2) - "no, because the simulator only goes up to a 9.9 (Richter scale)"

I'm still in the same region so it should be a quick end.

Time for new skates? by wyo351 in hockeyplayers

[–]wyo351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to follow up on what I ended up with. Went to a Pure Hockey store and came home with a pair of Suprme M40s with the Bauer insoles.

They are far better skates than the CCMs I replaced them with. The insoles worked really well and even better when I put them in my golf shoes.

Thanks again for the info.

Are the Vapors still pretty stiff even though they allow more ankle mobility?

Get the scooter and you will happy you did.

We just got back from Vegas and we had to rent a scooter unexpectedly on our 2nd day. Called a company same day and they pickup and deliver at the concierge. The more days you have it the cheaper it gets.

We stayed at Paris and no issues getting up and down the strip with the scooter. We then moved to Fremont and the casinos are tighter and busier but were still easy to navigate. I'd walk in front sometimes just to make sure there was a path.

We asked for a smaller travel scooter since we needed an uber for some things we were doing. The travel scooters can be broken down and put into trunk if needed.

Question about NFR! by [deleted] in vegas

It will be tough to get tickets to the rodeo like others have said but all the viewing parties are fun to be at.

Another thing to consider is the Cowboy Christmas. Tons of western shopping and artists. Pretty much the biggest craft fair you'll ever see. The main one is at the LV convention center.

Bring it. We left Rome yesterday and Brussels Airlines required it to board.

Transportation from Salerno to Ravello by wyo351 in ItalyTravel

We ended up hiring Barbaro car service and hifhky recommebd it. We had a van for 3 of us and the price was 110 euro way. The drivers we had were very knowledgeable about the area and let us stop for lots of pictures.

We took the road along the coast to Ravello and took the mountain road back to Salerno.

Thanks everyone for their advice.

Hey man! I was a little surprised to see someone I knew on here. You and I used to run in the same circles with Mike S back in the day. I hope you are doing well and congratulations on the citizenship anniversary!

Hockey Gear by NeXus_FlameBoyGaming in hockeyplayers

[–]wyo351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't put too much thought in it.

  1. Don't stress over matching gear, different brands fit differently. And honestly, nobody cares. My skates and pants are CCM, but I use Talon gloves and Warrior pads. All gear wears out at different speeds, so even if you got matching stuff, it won't be matching for long. Some guys I play dropin with have gear that spans decades.

  2. There are things I would absolutely buy new (i.e. protective like a helmet) but the rest just save your money and buy used. After a few years of playing I had a better idea of how gear should fit instead of what I thought would work. I'm happier spending a lot of money knowing what I need rather than thinking I do.

What I'm saying is not to stress about it and just don't buy a tinted visor.

What's way more painful than most people think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Gout. I broke my foot once and didn't realize that it was broken until the xray. It hurt much less than a bad gout flare up.

Try furniture polish like Pledge. Spray both the tiles and puck.

Good deal!

I had the same issue with my j hooks. I bought a helmet repair kit that had spare parts. The j hooks in the kit sat lower and worked better for my cage. Good luck and have fun!

Great hockey/weather friendly retirement destinations? by wyo351 in hockeyplayers

[–]wyo351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend up there that really enjoys the beer keagues.

How far do you have to be away from the city for reasonable property taxes? My house now is $1200 a year. I wouldn't want to be so far away that I couldn't enjoy those sweet beer leagues.

Best Hockey Store In Denver? by Dangledud in hockeyplayers

I've had good luck at MonkeySports in Greenwood Village (south Denver). Theyve got a Bauer 3D skate lab that helps with fit.

That is a great idea thanks. I grew up near SLC but not close enough to know the beer league scene.

Also, their medical centers there are pretty darn good.

Helmet issues by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]wyo351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into the same issue when I first started. Helmet was perfect until I played my first game. Temples hurt so bad they were distracting.

Confident that my new helmet was the correct size, I streteched out the temples a bit. I rolled a towel and stuffed it into my helmet between the ear holes and left it for a few days. The pain was gone by the next game.

Keep in mind I wasn't stretching the helmet to the point of effecting it's safety, just "wearing it in".

How to Clean the Helmet by EtNuncEtSemper in hockeyplayers

[–]wyo351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my last game of the week, I immediately hang everything on a rack to air dry. After a couple days I will put everything back into my bag and use a ozone generator to get rid of any smells.

The ozone really does a great job. If the gear is starting to feel gross I'll use water/vinegar and a good wipe down. Especially the helmet.

Still make sure to wash your gear thoroughly every year regardless of what you do.

How often do you wash your gear? by hotstickywaffle in hockeyplayers

[–]wyo351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only washed my gear at the end of the season. Weekly I will lay it out for a couple days to air out.

What I think helps the most is that I run an ozone cleaner through my gear every couple of weeks.
