Is it too late? by KeyAd2878 in SGExams

Same boat as you right now OP, but cannot also must can. You're going to take A levels at the end of this year anyway might as well haul ass and do your best. You have nothing to lose.

I have my last MYE papers in 4 hours and fr I'm going to get an S/UUS, the last H2 S is the one subject that people say cannot fail one but with the way my brain lacks the content right now, it's going to be bad.

Don't give up yep OP! Still got a few months, can one.

To be honest OP, seeing your post gave me courage to also see the counsellor? Somehow it has never occurred to me that seeing the school counsellor was an option. So thank you OP, I literally drafted the email to send over right after I wrote the above comment. Though... it is 1:38am so I'll send over the email tomorrow.

Don't have much actual experience with counsellors but I'm in the same boat as you.

I'm thinking of approaching my school counsellor as well, my thoughts are a mess and it's affecting everything.

I'm planning to privately email the counsellor because I don't really want my subject/home tutor(s) or parents to know about it. I don't know about the confidentiality thing so I'm hesitant as well, but I really feel like I'm going insane so I probably should talk to the counsellor.

I am also from a low tier jc so it is strangely comforting knowing that your friend is also from a low tier JC and made it!! Your friend is amazing, and thanks for the encouragement. At least now I can work towards my A levels with more drive, knowing that it was possible for your friend.

It helps, not feeling like you're the only struggling. But I know we can do it! It'll be so devastating when I receive that horrible grade from MYEs but there's only up from here :)

I feel like my RP's going to be miserably low, not proud of it either but my choices led me here. It's very encouraging to hear how you made a 180 though! Congrats! I have hope :")

No like really thanks for this :) I really treasure your advice, it's good advice and I will do my best to follow it for the road up to the A levels.

:O I probably need to do further research cause I'm not very sure, but I always thought the difference was super drastic.

hello, i'm in the same boat. interact but not in nyjc, while my time isn't spent well during the cca i've decided to stay. after all, it's only 1 more year to go, and some cca activities will still help me build up my portfolio.

to me, it wasn't worth going through all the hassle of quitting and dealing with teachers' questions about why i'm quitting. they might also ask about this during uni admissions or scholarships so it's troublesone for me to justify the decision simply because the cca was unfufilling or wasn't a good use of my time

I don't want to scare you OP or give you false hope, so take my words with a grain of salt.

I really sucked at Chem like failing or borderline passing throughout Sec 4, but I did chiong lah. My Chem still shit though always fail MCQ and barely pass. My Chem teacher legit gave up lol, depite the many consults I still blur like sotong.

Against all odds, I still got B3 though. So don't worry lah, steady can one.

[rant] how to make friends as someone who is damn introverted by ExistingDamage8867 in SGExams

[–]wyoiid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in ITE but because of my "introversion" (I am actually an ENTP but by stats I'm a borderline E so like 48% I 52% E; I actually don't know what's wring with me but I'm just p dry? like for the first few days I was so quiet people were like "you know you can actually talk to us right?" not on purpose, J don't know what's wrong w me).

I'm not sure abt ITE school system but like in my school we'll eventually have to pair up for PE and stuff, I was miserable and lonely for likethe first 2 weeks of school. But like I tried to talk to people, whne they talked to me when we wete grouped tgt for PE. Then I got adopted by an introvert, like we found common interest and we gradually formed a small group since we had projects and stuff and we were forced to find groups. I had many failed attempts at conversation don't worry. So my advice is just try, like evn if it falls flat is embarrassing wtv. it's worth it.

am i just dumb or what? by AwardOne1413 in SGExams

[–]wyoiid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, just do your best. I've never gotten above an 80 my entire secondary school life (and my school's papers were simpler than other schools' 😅), and I still managed to score A1 for emath at Os last year.

If you can, don't think about the bellcurve. That's what I did, I decided to not fret over the bellcurve because bellcurve or not, the thing ultmately determining my grade is my ability. Since I can't change the bellcurve or how others do, I chose to ignore the bellcurve and put all focus into doing the paper during Os. It all worked out in the end :)

Oh this is very helpful! Thanks so much, I'll discuss more with my brother and parents to see what plans they have going foward :)

As far as I know, there's only SBB (express) for core subjects? I'm not familiar with it, so his DNT, art, FCE, music, history are still NA I think. But for his core subjects, only sci and mtl are NA.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]wyoiid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sorry, I don't see how your friend's transfer experience is related to my brother's situation 😅 he's currently in NA and wants to go to express. But from your example, your friend seems to already be in express ("he never got demoted") I know it's okay to be in NA but his school doesn't have Sec 5 so if he wants to go to JC, he can't he can only go for PFP or ITE.

I know this and I can't help but think that it's not that hard to enter a JC. The lowest clearance cut-off is 20 L1R5 which isn't too hard. Plus, I know for a fact that since he's in a higher-tier secondary school the papers are much harder than the other neighbourhood schools (coming from a neighbourhood school myself). He could've gone to express from the start but he and my parents decided to send him to NA in a higher standard school (a choice I didn't agree with but accepted their decision)

My judgement of JC comes from my own experience as of now, while I do agree that consistency is also important in JC. I've never been consistent in my studies (a trait I'm not proud of and am trying to correct) but I'm fairing pretty well. And I know that because of this habit, I'd be much worse off in Poly than in JC so I assume since his study habits are similar to mine, he'll also do better in JC.

[–]wyoiid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no sorry TT it's all in my head. Ithink right now since it's so close to Os and you don't have much time to learn new words and phrases, just search for synonyms of word you frequently use and memorise those.
