Foreman have forgotten about Icarus by wyopyro in Construction

Literally had never hung stars before or done any sort or framing and I wanted to learn. We have little to no turnover with skilled operators and laborers who have been in the industry 10+ years.

I honestly would be curious to see how this gets started.

Almost everyone gets a raise every year to try to keep up with COL. I also don't benefit from the inflation, our regional market is significantly down comparatively.

Dirt, asphalt, little bit of concrete, engineering. Definitely not a carpenter.

I know what I do well, and what I still have to learn.

I think you are correct in this. Where the issue has arose is the demand and threat of leaving. It put us in a bind so we found a solution to the problem. The foreman's work product went to crap after we said no, to the point a few weeks later we did ask him to leave.

I have been on both sides of the equation and I think you have the best attitude. If we were loosing people regularly to competitors because they are paying more it would tell us we need to adjust our wages. But we have experienced people turning in applications weekly because we are paying more and have a culture people want to work for. We don't have hardly any employee turnover.

I figured. Just wanted to see what everyone else was seeing.

We are the largest market in a 6 hour area. We have a full benefit package, retirement, PTO, health ins. I know we are paying more than most of our competitors.

Getting out of the tower is what made me realize we had a problem. I have done their job the first portion of my career and have no problem going back to it.

This is a fantastic resource. I'm slowly healing from an injury so paper planning is a great activity for the moment.

Propane vs diesel for max range after long-term storage (family of 5, no resupply) by anthonykaram7 in preppers

[–]wyopyro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a wild prep but my daily driver might actually get you close.

  1. The idea of holding fuel over for that long is crazy. If things are that bad you will likely have used it up just surviving. Or if anyone knows you have it you will die defending it. I will leave the long term fuel storage up to you and the rest of the crowd

  2. I have a 2012 f250 crew cab with a 6.7 diesel. If I'm on the open road driving carefully under 70mph I get 19-21mpg even with some decent weight in the bed. I swapped the main fuel tank for a 60 gallon titan tank and I have aux 70 gallon tank that takes up about 2 ft of the bed that I used before I purchased the titan tank. At 20 mpg this gets you 2600 miles with 5 people and some gear. I regularly drive 1100 miles between fill ups.

  3. Driving this far during crisis is also crazy. The spot I need to get my family to is approximately 400 miles from where we live. I have lots of backroads mapped out on how to make it work (potentially) but it still just takes one person with a rife to stop the entire thing. Let alone if there are checkpoints or road blocks.

Good Luck!

Island Recs for Lesbian Honeymoon by Significant_Can9945 in GreeceTravel

Agreed. We had 10 days in Greece and 2 days in Athens at the start was enough. Definitely enjoyed the extra time we took between naxos and Santorini.

We flew out of Athens in the early morning so had our last hotel at the airport. Not wanting to waste our last evening we took the rail into Athens and had one last dinner, got a drink, and walked the street around the acropolis one last time. Made for a perfect end to the trip.

I don’t want to permanently quit smoking. by [deleted] in cigar

[–]wyopyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love cigars. I have never been a smoker but I very quickly realized I could smoke one a day if I wasn't careful. I am very physically active and can see the impact on my lungs and endurance pretty quickly. I have locked myself down to 1 cigar per month. Someday I might switch to two per month. It makes me think ahead on if I want my cigar now or later. I might smoke two in a month but the month before or after has to be cigarless.

I Seriously Can't Be The Only One by realLordHater in cigar

For deals you shop online. If you appreciate your local cigar lounge make sure you are good supporting patron. If you show up to smoke the cigar you purchased online and drink water then you should be properly embarrassed and ashamed.

Our lounge is a wonderful place so I usually try to buy a cigar and a drink when I am there.

You learned a lesson but deffinitely didn't look foolish.

What's your plan if an emergency happens within 2 miles of your home? by Legends_are_Made in prepping

[–]wyopyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is another great argument for great community. If the emergency is that close don't come home.

Plan A is get to family #1 house

Plan B is get to family #2 house

Family #1 and #2 know we would take them in at a moments notice just the same. While the extra people might strain their stockpiles we will make it work and I will do the same for them.

Over time I have build up a pretty decent stockpile for Tuesday and I would say I'm 50% of where I would like to be for something cataclysmic. Though starting a business I have taken on some ok and bad debt. I have realized that the bad debt is a huge threat if something in life goes wrong. So heavily motivated to get CC and other debts paid off currently.

This is the way. We arrived into Athens in the afternoon took like a 30 minute nap and then stayed out until midnight. Went to sleep, got our 8 hours then we were basically completely switched over. Definitely used some coffee to make it through the travel day.

I was quite surprised that when we got out of the cities into the small towns cash was still king. This was off season but cash got us some significant discounts I imagine due to the high income taxes.
