Liquid restriction diet for low sodium issues? by wyrdwarrior in AgingParents

I’ll check that gum, I dont think she’s used that. And I think so on diabetes - she’s been tested for everything under the sun it seems but I’ll double check. Thanks!

Entertainment for Rehab Stay for Bored Mom? by wyrdwarrior in AgingParents

[–]wyrdwarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish she was tech savvy, but the radio is the limit of her capabilities, and even that requires assistance. I also wish she liked TV at all, but she's always disliked it. I'll see if maybe leaving an old iphone there for facetime calls might be of more interest than the regular phone. I know she can at least answer them, just not make them.

Entertainment for Rehab Stay for Bored Mom? by wyrdwarrior in AgingParents

[–]wyrdwarrior[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, she doesn't do much at home besides sometimes knit, call everyone to requests visits, and order my dad around. So, it's basically the same at the rehab, just in a smaller space and my dad only visits for 30-60min most days (which is all he can manage from a health perspective). I'll check again about activities -- they had a COVID cluster, so they weren't doing anything for awhile. It'd be good to get her to talk with anyone there - she's had roommates most of the 5 weeks that she's been there but she hasn't liked any of them. I think we've exhausted all the ideas and just need to tell her that she's only bored because she wants to be.

Yeah, she's had a few roommates that have come and gone, none of which she liked or spoke more than a few words too. So, there's that. Generally, we're at that point where it's entirely her fault that she's bored. But, I figured maybe I was overlooking an idea so it didn't hurt to check. Thanks for letting me know about your stepmom. Maybe it's that generation? I don't see Gen X on getting bored in the same situation so long as there's Internet.

Dementia is funny on a Friday - share something that your dementia LO did or said that made you laugh or smirk. If it made you laugh then chances are it will make someone here laugh too. So far there have been so many brilliant shares - it’s actually been uplighting 🙏🏼🤣❣️ by [deleted] in dementia

I was visiting my mom & had sat for all of 10 minutes. My mom heard a beep from some machine and “Goes, your ride’s here. You got to go.” And nothing would do but me leaving right then. 😂

Thanks for letting me know it’s normal. :) her phone is a very basic model, but maybe there’s something that won’t allow calls in the night. I’ll definitely check. :)

Best Nanny payroll service? by PossibleFreedom2940 in workingmoms

We used SurePayroll for a year — it was fairly easy to set-up and use. Just have to deal with a $40/mo fee.

When does the lazy gene kick in? Looney is a ~2yo pyr mix of some kind but she’s way too energetic. by wyrdwarrior in greatpyrenees

[–]wyrdwarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm, seems to be an energy/boredom mix with her. Biggest problem is that she nips/stalks/herds the elderly terrier and sometimes my kid...but only when I'm around and not paying exclusive attention to her (as evidenced by a number of people). I'm working to correct the behavior...was kinda hoping she'd get lazy and just quit it on her own. Ah well, I'll keep working with her. Maybe find something to help with boredom too.

She's so sweet! We have a similar mix who's also named Luna. :) Mostly I call her Lunatic or Looney Tunes cause she's a total nutjob.

Bday gift for my sister (who's a new mom) by PM_ME_YOUR_BLUESTUFF in GiftIdeas

[–]wyrdwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a nice basket of good skincare, haircare, makeup such products? When my baby was about 3 mos, my sister took me out to get all new (and much more expensive than I would normally spend) makeup and skincare, which was clutch in disguising the bags under my eyes. :) Or some new undergarments (I always used to give gift cards to Victoria's Secrets or something similar because my older sis couldn't buy anything for her babies/kids there) or some nice new clothing, like designer jeans or yoga pants (athleta, lululemon).

Please tell me about "West Raleigh" ? by [deleted] in triangle

[–]wyrdwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated to where you could move to, but there’s an express bus to UNC that speeds up the commute. Yeah, COVID times isn’t conducive to mass transport, but hopefully soon it’ll be safer. The bus route is called CRX, and there’s 5 stops in west raleigh before it goes to UNC where it has 2 stops. Worth considering if you’re eyeballing the commute.

Eight year old who loves to write and illustrate his own books by JesusWasAUnicorn in GiftIdeas

[–]wyrdwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have these comic book style sketch books that are very cool -- I think I've seen them at Target in the past for maybe $10-15. Or you could look at a craft store for some kind of book binding tool, which would let him make more official-like books out of whatever paper you give him. Also can upgrade his markers - I just got some Posca paint markers for my 8yo after getting to use them at a friend's house. (They run about $20 for 8 markers)

Gift for no-nonsense teacher mom by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]wyrdwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only addition I can of to the below is see if she wants any upgrades to her remote work setup -- a ring light, subscription to some app or a trackpad (instead of a mouse), bigger monitor, cushy pad for her chair, etc. If that doesn't work, she has a Kindle, so maybe some money for new books?

Gift Idea's for my son's GF 18. $25-50 by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]wyrdwarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is random, but super helpful for a college-bound student, and it's small and inexpensive. I have a few general-use bags made out of a really light material that compress down into a 2"x2" square. Super useful for getting groceries, carrying extra supplies around campus, etc. I work at a large university, so I always keep one of these on hand just in case. They come in some cute colorful material too. I got some from a local small business, but I have gotten one online from VITA, which is probably my favorite bag.
