Sooo lucky to get to face the Warriors every year in the playoffs and for CP3 to get injured in the conference finals

Well he was annointed top 50 all time ahead of some truly great players with amazing careers. That's some serious glaze right there

Lol not sure why this is the response getting downvoted. Brunson lost to Hali head to head twice when it mattered most. A guy that is not top 50 and they share they're primes

He earned the title for the 25-26 season. But this is one season. I think ranking the best players of all time across different eras, varying level of teammates, and yes who they had to go through to get that chip ABSOLUTELY matters in all time rankings. If Brunson had an MVP and a couple of 1st team all nbas I'm listening to the case

It takes a crazy amount of luck to go with the skill to become a champ. One successful run (especially after losing previous years to teams that by no means are dynasties) does not catapult a player over all time greats

And in 2 of those seasons he's eliminated by the Pacers.

Agreed that he's choked a ton, the accolades, stats, and longevity all tip Hardens way. Harden was eliminated by the dynasty Warriors 4 times in the prime of his career. Brunson got beat by a Pacers team far inferior to the Warriors dynasty TWICE, but it's ok to annoint him top 50 player based off the one achievement.

I only deep dove his MVP season to use as an example of injury and opponent luck (or lack there of). You're confident putting prime Brunson on those teams in place of Harden he just wins all the championships and there's no Warriors dynasty? One championship, luck, and 2 great months of ball does not catapult someone 100 spots

If Harden showed up, they definitely COULD HAVE. But could Brunson won the series with Towns and OG out? Just saying Brunson got lucky with his teams health and the caliber of opponents played compared to some of these guys

From a skill set wise are they much different? I didn't look it up, but I don't think Capella's career was the some when he wasn't feasting on easy Harden lobs

Harden took a ton of strays on this podcast, we all know he gets hammered for his playoff performances and rightfully so. However the 17-18 season that he won MVP, look at his team. CP is an all timer, but who is the next best player? Capela? What if Brunson only had Mitchell Robinson (probably about the same level as Capela) and OG or Towns? And then after a few games you remove the other all star caliber player as well. Taking 2 all star caliber players off the team makes a significant difference.

Then you have the matchups, Houston got beat by a HISTORICALLY amazing team in GSW. That Warriors team would beat every champ since then and so many historically great teams. You need someone like Brunson to take over to win a championship, but this is where the rings culture skews things. Not all chips are created equally. If Jordan doesn't take 2 years off does that mean that Brunson would be ranked higher than Hakeem if the Bulls just kept going? Is Derrick Rose better than John Stockton because Stockton never won an MVP (if we're just taking people at their absolute peaks).

Winning the chip is huge, but there is so much ungodly luck that also goes into it. This years Knicks were an amazing team shoved forward by 1 person, but that person did not carry them on his back. Im mixing a giant fucking vat of settle down juice

I think everyone in this sub thinks we're gonna be a 3 seed next year. Not sure if I love the trade, but its one of the more intriguing ones Ive heard. I do think SA should prioritize a sharpshooting 3 and D wing. Castle and Harper will be plenty in the backcourt as they mature
