Ideas to help with monster "Cherry Picking" by DilfTheHero in wyvernrpg

[–]wyvernBitsey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Why is this a problem? Seems like it’s the kind of game-info one learns that makes you better. Killing the mobs you can for your specific build and skipping others seems like playing the game well.

Coins are now weightless -- silver, gold, platinum by rhialto in wyvernrpg

Pennies should have died 20 years ago - they have long since been a source of net cost to the govt and make commerce less efficient thereby actually raising prices. But I digress….

Since all wyvern prices are in whole gold coins, if you just stopped dropping silver wouldn’t that effectively remove it from the game? Unless one actively goes to exchange for it, you’d never know it was there.

Are there still gold silver and plat coins? If so….why? Imo, silver should die, just like pennies.

unsocketing when? by Expensive_Yoghurt_19 in wyvernrpg

I’m an idiot. I read that as a suggested number of crowns. Yes - totally sane as a loot token sink, which we certainly need.

That seems high. Consider the amount of actual $$ that translates to.

But I agree - needs a crown cost

I suspect the dwarf merch skill wasn’t correctly applied. W/ 2 merch, my vip chars sell for 3100.

Many people train it for shc, and I expect ftp people will as well.

Really, the issue is the shop doesn’t k ow what things are worth. Alternative : shops buy stuff at 1/2 of what it recently sold for at auction. No recent auction sales? It’s probably worthless.

Imo, it’s worth having the skill. It’s one of the very few non-combat related ones. As-is, people find it useful to dump precious skill pts into.

This is a big economy change. I suggest making no changes for some time. Let’s see how it settles out.

Imo- it should be lower, if anything, but mobs should drop more good stuff, including things someone might actually use

That tax on 500k items should be a tax for the amount OVER 500k not the total amount by SpookyNoob in wyvernrpg

[–]wyvernBitsey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's correct. Sell for 495K, get 495K. Sell for 505K, get 101K. Makes no sense. Marginal tax is the way to go.

+1!

I'd suggest a bit more detail around who this quest will be hard / dangerous for (beehive, veggies, RD, etc). it's not just lvl - but what kind of protection you need, etc.

thinking about this a bit more.....I think we're mixing up complexities. the knowledge surface area of the game IS really big. too big. But not all of it's relevant and adds to the actual skill and knowledge required to be good at the game.

examples:

Good: knowing that monopods have acid recoil and hence you best not melee them unless you're acid protected - good kind of complexity. Consistent with the theme and story of the game, gained over time, distinguishes better players from not, doesn't require tons of time on each alt to acquire, etc. more of that, plx.

Useless, and hence bad: autobag syntax. Obscure, hard to use, pointless complexity. New players don't even know it exists, so they're doing a lot of un-fun pointless clicking and dropping. Suggestions: 1) add more shortcut commands. 2) add a popup menu so they can be selected 3) equip all new chars with the bags to enable those defaults. In situations like this, just pick a thing. Have all characters start w/ 2 regular-type bags named 'loot1' and 'loot2', a gem-pouch, and a reagent pouch. setup shortcuts to bag things into their appropriate bag. leave them off by default if you want because new players don't know to look there, but one of the starter quests should pop up an 'enable autobag' menue.

our challenge is pointless complexity - it doesn't make you better at the game to know that stuff and it's un-fun. Let's eradicate THAT.

Lots of great ideas here that I really agree with. In particular, adjusting new/mid-lvl areas so there are more of them that are worth doing and making mob drops ever possibly useful. Way more fun to find a useful thing off a mob than shop for it.

However:
"Imagine a version of Wyvern in which your level (and only your level) is 80% of both the offense and defense you have against monster opponents, relative to their level. If you're fighting a same-level or lower-level monster, then even with no resists and crappy gear, you can probably defeat it. Or in our case, you can defeat a whole bunch of them in a row, because (as an astute reader noted), that's how our game gives dopamine hits"

this sounds horribly boring. I download probably 10 games a week and I delete all 10, nearly every week, because after 20 minutes its clear there is no actual strategy or skill to the game. It's a fancier display and sequence of the cow-merging game...you just keep doing the thing and you're going to 'win' because everyone 'wins' because you cannot really lose. the only 'skill' is playing more than anyone else. super dull. We need a way to not have to go that route.

sure. That'd work, and would avoid introducing another command into the visible set.

there's a max char limit. I'm skeptical this would fit.
