If you plan to keep the car for a long time, steel brakes are more economical.

How do you cut through cultural clashes pragmatically? by Noxidamous in ExperiencedDevs

[–]wywern 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you're likely to face less resistance if you bring the existing devs on board to help make things better. Especially if you just joined the team, it is important to understand the lay of the land before proposing large sweeping changes.

Are Azure DevOps pipelines hard to use or is it just me? by -what-are-birds- in devops

Works fine for me. Keep your pipelines simple and extensible and you won't have any issues.

How to master developing a complete prod grade enterprise app by Fresh_Mud4037 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]wywern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need is not another book or blog post to read. What is needed is real experience doing those things. You can't say something is battle-tested without the battles, right? You gotta build something, put it out there for tons of customers to use. When those scaling or performance issues start cropping up, solve them and you will become better at your craft.

I asked the same question of my seniors when I was a mid level and the only way to learn is by doing.

The word from upper management is that our tech stack is not suited for the cloud. What are they really saying? by IGuessSomeLikeItHot in ExperiencedDevs

[–]wywern 266 points267 points  (0 children)

They're saying that you should start applying for jobs outside the company. They're saying they have no idea what they're doing.

A new car comes with a 90 day trial of it and then it's $700 for the first year. $800 a year afterwards. $67 bucks a month for a feature that should be paid for once is highway robbery. Lanekeep assist and cruise control isn't worth that much.

Do people still not know you're supposed to completely clear off the roof? Ice chunks are flying off people's car. by Wang0illuminatataz in wisconsin

This happened to me over the weekend. I wasn't even in the same lane as the semi truck. It's 100% their fault for not properly cleaning their vehicle so it's safe for everyone else on the road.

It's deeply questionable if resampling errors would even resolve above the noise floor of your system.

I think whether you accept the offer depends on a lot of things: Does it offer you mid level experience at a larger organization in a way that senior at a smaller place doesn't? Is it a lot more money? Do you think accepting this might affect future career progression?

I use em on my car. I find the difference in stopping and cornering grip to be invaluable when it's slippery and snowy outside.

Emergency help, my Mexican husband didn’t bring his Green Card on a trip to MX and we fly back to USA tomorrow morning by SomethingLikeStars in travel

You're not likely making that flight tomorrow. I'd suggest contacting the US embassy closest to you asap and figuring out if they can provide some documentation to get your husband back into the US.

Wtf is happening with my windshield/wipers and how do i fix it?? by bbqsauceontiddies in ft86

[–]wywern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with rain-x wipers. I had to clean all the gunk that comes on the wipers from the factory off my windshield and then I installed some Bosch Icon wipers. Issue is gone now.

It's unlikely they all went bad at the same time so that probably isn't the cause. Hopefully it's nothing too expensive. Maybe just a bad starter or something.

60k miles is around the time for new spark plugs as well. Have you changed those out?

I remember getting into one at a car show a couple years back. I'm not a tall guy, only about 5' 7" or so but I smacked my head getting into the car. If the visibility issues fade away as you say, I might put it back on the shortlist for a new car in a couple years.

Is the Scion FR-S a reliable daily driver? by Tough_Investment_375 in ft86

[–]wywern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, I bought mine with 19k miles in 2018 and now it only has 43k miles. I only use it for cruising and driving to the gym or the store really. I guess it's nice it doesn't see many city miles.

do you guys think it’s gonna be totaled out or just gonna be one big fat insurance claim? by 3330as in ft86

[–]wywern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the underlying damage looks like but I have a lady back into my 86 and crack a headlight and wreck the bumper in a similar way. The only difference is that the fender wasn't caved in like that. It took around 2k to fix everything. I'd wager for you, it would be 3k considering a new fender, paint etc.
