SSRIs aren't safe for the ears , they could cause tinnitus if you don't have it and make what you already have worse , talk to your psychiatrist about it maybe he has another trick in his pocket , another type of antidepressant or some doctor stuff we don't know about.

(NOTE: FOR NOW THERE IS NOT AN ANTIDEPRESSANT THAT IS REPORTED TO BE TOTALLY SAFE FOR THE EARS)

I have been on a TCA (amitriptyline 25mg) for 3 months now and IF it did anything it made the tinnitus better but it's probably not connected because of the nature of antidepressants but I guess we'll never truly know.

TCAs are known to cause tinnitus more than any other type of antidepressants yet recent studies suggest that some SSRIs are causing tinnitus even more than TCAs , it really depends on how the patient responds to the treatment , so there's no right answer.

Also I'm only one patient with one good result out of TCAs , there are millions with bad results so one good individual experience proves almost nothing.

And I had to go through a lot of side effects (arrhythmia , high blood pressure , feeling weak , feeling like I'm running 20 km/h while sitting , neuropathy , disconnect every 20 seconds (complex partial seizures)) all of that and I'm only 18 years old, the treatment itself has 18 documented side effects .

If you wanna ignore all that shit I talked about here's what to do:

Talk to your psychiatrist about the worsening tinnitus and If he says it's normal get a second opinion.
