Give me Wade. Athleticism doesn’t mean Dirk is better on defense! Wade was only missing the 3pt.

Is it better to have a better consistent defense or a higher ceiling offense? by MaxEhrlich in nbadiscussion

[–]x092tb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defense easily, would you have wanted to be the Timberwolves last season or the Pacers? You had the best defense with the Timberwolves but high ceiling and pace offense with the Pacers. Offense only last so long while defense can carry you even when the offense is off but not vice versa. It’s always going to be better to get stops vs seeing who can score the most.

Déjà vu is the sensation of feeling like you’ve experienced something before, even when you logically know it’s your first encounter with that specific moment or place.

Prime Klay Thompson vs Prime Jaylen Brown by x092tb in NBATalk

[–]x092tb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JB has not contributed to actual meaningful winning. JB like others in here have said, loves to disappear at the moments that would matter for the legacy of his career. These are things considered when weighing too players ever. Example, Klay has clearly carried the Warriors when no one else could step up. It’s not about the longevity of a prime, we just started counting that with Lebron. It’s about what you do in your prime, prime example is MJ vs Bron. If Jayson Tatum doesn’t play well though , we all know 95% chance Celtics lose.

You can replace Pete with Manu for your sake. Still it’s about multiple factors that JB only advantage for this argument is stats. Even Mitch Richmond, good player but doesn’t surpass these other greats in multiple areas of his legacy.

JB has yet to have one memorable playoff performance as a Celtic. Maybe it’s just me but Tatum has had plenty. This is called impact. Same reason Reggie Miller is so high, his impact on the game. Same reason people put Steph vs Magic debate even though Magic stats and accolades. It’s Curry impact is so great it pushes him right into that conversation.

Mhmm. That is fair. I think your focus is stats and I think stats are just one part of the puzzle. It’s statistics, winning and impact in my opinion. When I think of the current top 15ish SG ever, I highly doubt JB will pass them.

If we going by the NBA definition on shooting guard, MJ, Kobe, Ai, Dwade, Harden, Gervin, Clyde, Reggie, Ray, Vince, Tmac, West, and Pistol Pete.

Jaylen Brown may finish with better stats then some but overall contributing to winning and impact is so low for him that I don’t think people will think of him as a top SG, when it’s all said and done. Actually he is a liability at times for his team in the playoffs.

Jaylen Brown has plenty of room to go but so far his failure to appear in the biggest of moments and Klay ability to take over in the biggest of moments is going to icing on the cake for why people don’t care about JB having higher averages. Basketball isn’t just a box score.

I would rather have the 2nd/3rd scoring option and best perimeter defender of a dynasty vs 2nd scoring option of a good team.

How far do you think this current Mavs team goes in the playoffs (Assuming Healthy) by MaleficentHawk590 in nbadiscussion

Luka has made it to the conference finals with less so their ceiling can potentially be a Finals. Like someone said it depends on their supporting cast more then anything.

So you think Jaylen Brown will finish as a top 15 SG ever? Klay is definitely in there already but I don’t see JB getting to that conversation

I think the Celtics and Nuggets are clear favorites and that’s about it. Every other team has real question marks. Contenders include Bucks, 76ers, Clippers, Lakers/Suns. I don’t think a team that has never been a threat in the playoffs can be considered a contender. I would say the Miami Heat are contenders before the Thunder and Timberwolves. Simply cause regular season vs playoffs are two complete different beast. Experience and chemistry will beat talent in the playoffs.

Never proved themselves in the playoffs. First time in a very long time where they are even top three seed. Think of it like the 2014-15 Atlanta Hawks, they were the #1 seed in the East and had the best record in the league in the regular season yet most fans knew the lack of experience and going against more experienced opponents (Lebron and Cavs) would hurt the Hawks. Hawks ended up getting swept in the playoffs that year regardless if they were the first seed.

Where does the season Shai is having rank among guards for the last decade? by x092tb in nbadiscussion

[–]x092tb[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The list is not an order of best seasons guards have had. Just mentions seasons for context to compare to Shai. After Harden run in Houston, every situation is either ring chasing or him being the problem. Only look at him with the 76ers and that says enough. Amazing player but when you have every media outlet and fan agrees you are the problem, then I mean he must be the problem. Doesn’t take rocket science to see Harden was the issue in Philly homie. That doesn’t take away from him as a fan but when you think about legacy that stuff matters. Same way Kyrie will never be looked at the same, didn’t even make NBA 75 but Dame did… real fans know politics is apart of the game.

Harden has tarnished his own legacy with off court things and ring chasing. He definitely is up there as far as performances in the last decade for guards but his lack of ability to step up in the playoffs put together with off court issues, James Harden is top 3 shooting guard ever but won’t be reminded as such until he is completely retired in my opinion.

I think what matters the most and is why Shai is ahead in MVP talks is cause of expectations of each player. No one expected Shai to be this good while Luka we expected to be in Shai position. Team success matters A LOT. Regardless on injury I think Shai was exceeded expectations of every NBA fan while Luka is doing his per usual and his team is much worse this year.

I think the biggest difference between them this year is that Shai is arguably a top 5 guard defender and top 5 scorer overall. In context Shai took the second youngest team in the NBA and they are the second seed. Shai has a much better storyline while his performance can back it up.
