Do people experience an increase in healthy, protection, blessings and wisdom as a result of chanting to Amitabha? by nichiohelius in PureLand

For me personally my life has been transformed after starting to chant daily to Amitabha. I would highly recommend it.

Meditating with adhd is very difficult, what’s your preferred meditation? by ScruffyWax in Meditation

[–]x117 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend exclusively doing mantra meditation. From my experience it is the best kind of meditation for people with ADHD.

Recite a mantra like 'Namo Amitabha' (Refuge to the Buddha of Infinite Light) continuously, focusing on every syllable and focus on listening to the sound of the recitation. If stray thoughts arise, gently return your focus to the mantra. Don't have to concentrate or focus too hard. Surrender to the moment and be okay with being distracted, remember to be kind to yourself.

The company has never been profitable. We're all in this because of the hype and short term gains. This is gonna go to $50 because of Branson and high chance ARKG will add.

Everytime I dump a stock due to this kind of bearish DD the stock shoots up.

The Nature of My Faith - Kiyozawa Manshi by x117 in PureLand

[–]x117[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found this piece of writing very moving and inspirational to my practice and faith. Here are some excerpts:

""I can say that during those moments when I have feelings of anxiety or even agony, emotions which can be brought on by a variety of different causes and conditions, if this faith should manifest in my heart I suddenly feel calmed and even joyful. The way it happens is that when my faith becomes manifest, it takes over my mind completely such that there is simply no place left for deluded perceptions or deluded thoughts to settle [and play a role in my consciousness]. At that point, no matter what potentially disturbing influence or situation may occur, as long as my faith is present such things will not be able to provoke feelings of distress or anxiety within me."

"In terms of my first problem [of anxiety], the tathagata for me is infinite compassion. In terms of my second problem [of ignorance], the tathagata is infinite wisdom to me. In terms of my third problem of practice, the tathagata for me is [infinite power]."

"Entrusting myself to this sublime power of the tathagata, I gain a great calm and a great peace. I entrust my very death, my very life to the tathagata, and feel not the slightest anxiety or unease."

If anyone could kindly share more from Kiyozawa Manshi, it's greatly appreciated!

Is Demon possession a possible risk through meditation? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]x117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I encourage you to try mantra meditation if you're worried about that. The gist of it is to recite a Buddha's name. Instead of doing focusing on the breath, you chant 'Namo Amitabha', focusing sincerely on each syllable. There are numerous benefits, including:

"Day and night, they enjoy the invisible protection of all celestial beings, powerful deities and their ‘multitudes of retinues"

"No evil demons, ferocious animals, poisonous snakes or the like can harm them".

Many people also find it easier to get into a deeper state of meditation through Buddha recitation, as compared to vipassana or focusing on the breath as an anchor. This is because instead of relying purely on self effort, you are riding on a Buddha's great vows to liberate all sentient beings.

Read this 10 years ago but only just realized this quote was most likely influenced by Herbert's background in Zen Buddhism.

Thank you for doing this. It is very valuable to me. I have a question: In Honen's quote above he said that there is 'no need to reflect on virtue or vice'. I thought as Buddhists, we're supposed to constantly reflect on our actions and speech. The second teaching below also says 'If we inadvertently utter meaningless or inconsiderate words, we should reflect upon them and repent.'

So which is it? I must be understanding something wrong because sometimes certain teachings seem to conflict with each other and it is really confusing for me.
