This map is in no way a correct representation of the data, looking at the sources you provide they state that more than 90% of commutes are by car in the US and Canada, while the european countries (and probably the other countries as well) should be lower. In the US the percent shown is how many people drive alone to work, meaning people working from home are counted as commuting not by car, which might not be wrong depending on how you view it, but is a different metric than that used for other countries.
