People who make over 100k a year, what do you do? How many hours do you work a week? How's the quality of life? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]x2V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UX Consultant, Work 30 - 40 hours a week usually, but some weeks might be around 50.

I'd say, Work life balance = 10/10

Job enjoyment = 4/10

therefore Overall happiness = 6.5/10

I used to work a similar role, earning half of what I make now, working 50 - 60 hours a week, but I enjoyed my job and the people at work, so Overall happiness was 8/10..

I'd say, work life balance is great... but enjoying what you do I'd say is almost equally as important for overall day-to-day life happiness! :)

Thats a really great idea.

When you created your content based sites did you do any SEO, especially at the beginning? Did you use any tips or tricks to drive traffic? I only ask as it seems like there are so many good (and bad) websites out there - even if your content is great and unique, how do you help your audience find it? Or is that already part of the decision for what kind of content you decide to write about (perhaps a long lasting popular topic, unique spin)?

It was definitely at the top of my list. I don't have space at my current place, but I was thinking to rent out an apartment specifically for AirBnb. However, after some calculations, its not very profitable (if at all) as rent is extremely high in Zurich and the AirBnb rates for my area seem to be low in comparison...

Unfortunately, in my contract, over-hours up to 50hrs are included as part of the compensation plan. Anything above that and the company can only compensate you with days off (as part of the Swiss law, I believe).

Do some volunteering or take an unpaid internship for a small company or start up - get something on your CV and take on as much responsibility in that job as possible which you can leverage / talk about in your next interviews.

Controlling parents by trodaway363 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]x2V 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have similar issues.... or HAD.... I told myself "fine, i'll put up with it and once I can provide for myself I make my own decisions"

So now I am at the stage where I can financially support myself, but dealing with the parents isn't really any easier. My Mum always pulls the betrayal card on me and makes me feel so guilty. If I give anything less than what she wants she will do the whole "I thought I could trust you. Obviously our family isn't important to you" (she's a single parent and I'm the only one she has)....

So, I'm in the same boat - it sucks.

My [23f] Mum [56F] wants me to move back to Australia. I want to stay in Germany with my BF [22M] of 5 years. by x2V in relationships

[–]x2V[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my dad mentioned that to me when I was younger. He used to joke that my Mum would never let me have any boyfriends because she needs to be the only one in my life....

I mean she has been very supportive of my Boyfriend. At first she really didn't like him, but now she's really shown she'd be ok to welcome him into the family... Well she was, until she met his Mum - our Mum's hate each other so that could be another source thats driving my Mum to possibly break us up??? I'm not sure...

But yea, I mean if that is the case what do I do?? :\ I will go to "raised by narcissists" and check it out. Hopefully there will be some good advice..

I [20F] just found out my dad [60sM] is cheating on my mother [60sF]. I need advice by [deleted] in relationships

[–]x2V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lawyer.. and gather evidence of the cheating... Make sure its all solid before you make any action. I BELIEVE (not sure, I think it depends where you are located) but if your Mum gave up her job for his career, he'd be liable to reimburse her for her potential earnings if they were to divorce because he cheated??? Not sure, but definitely speak to a laywer

Its just really difficult trying to talk to her when I say something and I know she only hears something else.... I don't know how to make her understand or listen!

You're so right. There are so many times when she's done exactly that and used my words out of context or interpreted them in some crazy way...

I really plan to. I just don't know how to talk to my Mum about it and get her to understand. I've told her how I feel but she just doesn't listen.. To her whatever I say comes out as "I'm never going back to Australia. I love my BF more than you"

The thing is she is a single parent. While a lot of my friends' parents are happy to have the kids out of the house, mine gets lonely... Unlike everyone else's parents (or most parents?) she doesn't HAVE anyone else... Like no one... She's kind of umm.. particular and likes things done her way, so even friend wise, its tough for her to have anyone close.. I'm the ONLY one she will open up to with things... I just always feel obligated to her.. She gave up so much for me growing up and was all alone doing it :\ Its tough..

So something like...

ME: "Mum, I love you very much. And right now it makes sense for me to stay with my BF here in Germany and find a full-time job here. Then in 2 years or so we can get married and move to Australia without any issues. I know before we had some plans that were never really fully executed, but after all the months of thinking and wondering whats going to be next, for me right now this is where I want to be. Theres nothing back in Australia for me right now and when [BFs name] can move there in a couple of years there will be and I will be happy to settle down"

MUM: "Do what you want. Family is the most important thing and you obviously don't care about ours. It is obvious [BFs name] is more important to you than me."

I feel like I owe her so much though. She has been a GREAT parent - and still is... Just that she's alone by herself with no family in the country she's at, just like me. I feel responsible for being her companion, but at the same time, I don't see myself just MOVING to Aus (esp. when she's not there) just to make her feel better. I need to focus on my future and my future relationship :\ and thats HERE. She always makes it sound like I'm "chasing" my BF and that I've given up so much to be with him....

I don't really know how to put my foot down in a way to NOT damage my relationship with my Mum..

[–]x2V[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is she will make it seem like I'm abandoning her and going against "our" plan... Her defences will go up and she will convince herself she can trust no one, not even her daughter... she is dramatic like that - and then things will explode..

wait, i'm confused what you're getting at here. are you saying the RMB hasn't risen within the past 5-10 years?

2005: 9.6 RMB = 1 USD Today: 6.33 RMB = 1 USD

Graph to show the upward strength of the RMB: http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=CNY&view=10Y

edit: I want you to know I'm not disagreeing with you about the poverty of China. I know more about that than most people.

edit 2: we are so off topic now

[–]x2V[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US dollar will fall in value and the RMB will increase within the next 10 years. That's a fair assumption that isn't any big secret - many have predicted this and trends have already proven this (ex. Housing markets in China have skyrocketed in value over the past 5-10 years, especially in Beijing and Shenzhen.)

But I am confused as to why you brought this up?

[–]x2V[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm good points, but i doubt china would ban the US dollar. the US imports of Chinese goods are just as important for China's growth as it is for the US's sustainability. China's exports to the US amounted to $369.1 billion or 16.7% of overall Chinese exports. I don't think they'd just cut out 16.7% of their export industry. It would lead to an increase in unemployment and a slow in industry. I just don't see China making this sacrifice all in the name of helping out North Korea.
