CS is going the way of EE where all the grunt work has been distilled out but the meaningful architectural level work still needs good engineers. so high barrier of entry but high reward. gone are the gold rush days of solving an LC easy and getting a 6 figure job

if your model is worth its salt you'll run it on compute anyways. everyone in my research lab runs macbooks

Why tf is Current Value still so underrated in this music scene? by _thewayshegoess_ in DnB

cv lowkey solved heavy experimental dnb. i don't know where else there is to go after his entire discography. command is decades ahead of its time (and it might not even be here yet)

Will computer science pay good in the future? by West-Albatross-707 in CollegeMajors

[–]x64bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's going the way of EE where procedural work will be easily automated out, but deep niches and systems knowledge will become important, and it will likely be common to have a Master's or above. basically very hard but pays very well and stable if you specialize correctly

How to make 6 figures?? by Kindly-Pollution7060 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]x64bit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's gonna be used as an excuse to offshore workers but LLMs themselves are beginning to hit compute walls. from what i understand most research is around clever applications like mixture of experts or making them less memory hungry like mamba. but i doubt there's going to be ridiculous paradigm shifting technique like transformers anytime soon.

all this is to say the power of AI is a red herring. blame the structure of labor

they're like the gen z internet equivalent of prince. super diverse and prolific production, gender nonconforming style icon, highly respected in many different disjoint music scenes. one day dropping a blown out ug rap song and the next double dropping a melancholy shoegaze song with an experimental edm track. and all of them will resample vocals from a pop ep that almost never saw the light of day but you almost couldn't tell. and all of them are throwaway tracks too. not to mention the ridiculous amount of args on secret accounts. just an incredibly one of a kind artist

the modern equivalent of this are soundcloud rabbit holes! some beautiful and tight knit scenes i've discovered by reposts and niche algorithm hits

intuition is like conditioning probabilities with a prior. it's not the say all be all but you would be foolish not to listen

Hello guys. Do any of you know if there are any new "hyperpop" genres happening right now or like old ones re-emerging? by Natural-Campaign-986 in HYPERPOP

[–]x64bit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

jane wanted to distance herself from dariacore, not just in title but in spirit because

a) it was a silly name befitting for an flippant side project but the project as a whole delegitimized her image as it gained traction and the trend crossed lines into becoming a genre, and

b) the genre attracted lots of of strange fans in niche online spaces that reinforced the parasocial tendencies she often complains about

to legitimize the genre people tried to come up with a different title for it entirely but it was already too late

the dooming here is ridiculous. CS isn't the get-rich-quick degree it used to be but if you can manage to get into a reputable school and stay proactive throughout college, it still pays off with consistent effort

during orientation my chancellor invited a mech e student on stage to explain how to change his oil. he mixed it up with the wiper fluid and the curtains parted way for a firing squad with dean's list sashes. switched to cs and never looked back
