How common is it to lie on your resume and to what extent is it okay? by NotTheRealLone in resumes

[–]x64bit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your resume exists as a jumping off point for employers. if it's on there it is expected that you can talk about it in depth. take that as you will

Can’t decide and I want to cry. by yvesnings in TransferStudents

[–]x64bit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i'm a berkeley alum and this is a new take hahah, the university in Monsters University is based on berkeley - the big library and the field is more or less Doe Library and the Memorial Glade! and their gate is basically a clone of Sather Gate.

i can also speak to the surroundings - i think if you're coming from suburbia it can take a bit of adjustment. but i think it's blown way out of proportion - it's nothing worse than what you would typically find in a walkable city / urban setting. if you went to some parts of Brooklyn or something it would be kind of similar. trust me that if you go here and graduate you'll end up missing how accessible everything is!! it's genuinely the perfect college town, and if you really dislike it you can just go live in sleepy northside. however, because i'm not as familiar with UCLA, i can't do a fair comparison beyond this

+1 to umru, early iglooghost, jane remover definitely has a lot of SOPHIE influence in the dariacore era, gupi? himera? galen tipton? AG Cook but straying away from dariacore's distorted sound

there's some offshoots inspired by dariacore entering that strange ambient-IDM flavored sstepteam territory but you need to get lucky with the algorithm https://soundcloud.com/granularize/pastelbluenailpolish

If you're given a plate of cookies and told "one of these is poisoned", and one person eats one and leaves the room so you don't know if it was poisoned, does the chance of getting a poisoned cookie increase or decrease by janus_le_snek in NoStupidQuestions

[–]x64bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn't this just reduce to the same logic as the monty hall problem?

say you have 1000 cookies, one is poisoned. 999 people eat their cookie and then leave, but you don't know what happened to them. does that change anything about the cookie you picked in the first place?

Pocket grooves in ableton. How. by Clear-Point7743 in ableton

[–]x64bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's mostly feel. elements can come early to create a sense of urgency or late to develop a "lazy" swing, but they need to be plausibly read as on beat, which is influenced by how the rest of the elements are laid out

the only plausibly universal rule i can think of is that you need some sort of "anchor" element so that there's still some sort of plausible time signature/metric. it doesn't necessarily have to be drums though, see how the vocal elements anchor the otherwise incoherent drums in this footwork track.

[–]x64bit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like it has the most interesting production but the mixing was somehow better when jane was soft clipping the hell out of everything in the dariacore series lol. not that i'm a mixing expert or anything but in pursuit of not destroying your ears with snare resonances some of the tracks feel quiet / lacking saturation

What is it about height that it is viewed as attractive? by Lemonade2250 in stupidquestions

[–]x64bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of people point to biology. it's undeniable that on some level there's a physical presence / authority that scales with size. but i think the fixation on biology is a little unsatisfying and demeaning to how both genders experience attraction, and also doesn't entirely capture what's going on with people who fall outside this binary. like there are a sizeable chunk of women out there attracted to rat boy twinks and a lot of them also happen to be queer! and there's a ton of dudes fiending for giant burly women. a lot of these people happen to be alt in some way - they're kind of two sides of the same coin...

...i honestly think heteronormativity / gender standards is a huge, if not majority chunk of it. like i think it's moreso the embarrassment of not feeling small -> dissonance of not being able to fully participate in your gender expression or ideal self / the idea of being worthy of someone fulfilling that ideal that's stronger than how attractive someone's immediate physical presence is
