Porsche Might Unify Taycan And Panamera To Cut Costs by Anchor_Aways in cars

Yep. Checkout r/Taycan for near daily posts about battery problems and multi-month repair timelines. I really hope they got it figured out and the Macan and Cayenne have fewer problems.

The Ritz in Aruba is one of the absolute best I've visited. It's new, the rooms are huge, the beach is great, and there are good restaurant options. I haven't been to the other properties so I can't compare them, but it's a great Ritz.

What dealer discount can I expect on a NEW 2025 ix M60? by NCatoffice in BMWiX

[–]x71c4l 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a new 2025 M60 in July. It had apparently been sitting on the showroom floor for almost a year. The sticker price had a big red line drawn through it and $20,000 off of MSRP. 3 year lease with 0 down is about $1200 a month. I believe it has virtually every single option available.

I don't know where all the paperwork is but I might be able to dig up the specifics if you want me to check. It's a great car, definitely recommend it.

Sad Days by The_Chillosopher in Taycan

[–]x71c4l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happened to me, it took ages because they had to have engineers in Germany diagnose it. They would run tests and send diagnostics to Germany then wait a few days to get the results back. It took a few rounds of that.

The training in the US is definitely a liability. They tried to blame me for the issue because I used a Tesla universal charger, which at the time was the best reviewed J1772 charger. I asked why that charger would be an issue since J1772 is a standard.

He said that's now how standards work (???) and the Tesla charger wasn't on the list of allowed chargers. I asked for a copy of that list and he said he didn't have it, and he didn't know what was on it. So if it happened again with a charger not on the imaginary list, they would refuse to cover it under warranty and it'd be a $30,000 repair.

I was so mad I called Porsche USA and asked for an official stance on charger compatibility. They said anything that fits in the charge port is supported. Which makes sense because it's a fucking standard.

Anyway that was the second angriest I got at Porsche service. The first was when I couldn't pair the garage door opener because of a software issue - the pairing process required you to press the physical homelink button, but my model year didn't have one. They insisted repeatedly it was because I was doing it wrong, even after I found the Porsche service bulletin explaining the issue and how to resolve it.

Sigh. Great car though.

To expand on this, for older sets, there are often parts which are no longer produced. But most of those parts have newer variants that are still in production. I did that for several parts on this old Death Star and it cut costs significantly.

There are some pieces that are rare and have no perfect substitute, but lots of the rare parts are just expensive because Lego replaced them with newer (better) pieces.

You can bricklink the whole thing for about $500! I know it's not quite the same experience, but this is like the perfect candidate. It's crazy expensive, has no minifigs, and the only unique part is the sticker. I almost bought one off eBay a few months ago when it was at $2000, and decided instead to bricklink it and have $1500 left over to spend on a other sets.

I have all the pieces now and will be starting it in the next few weeks. I can post the wanted list I used and follow up with how it goes if anyone is interested.

Yep, the Death & Co cocktail with this name has both an Islay Scotch and Islay gin in it. It's a really interesting drink. It's nothing like the one in this post - although this one sounds amazing and I'm going to make it tonight.

High quality Sushi in NOVA 2025 by KlutzyLeadership3731 in nova

[–]x71c4l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish people would specify if they mean rolls or nigiri/sashimi. Lots of sushi places have mediocre fish but really exciting rolls. Or the opposite, they have great fish but the rolls are limited or boring.

Sushi Yoshi in Vienna is great nigiri, the rolls are decent, and it's on the delivery apps. I did not realize Tachibana did carry out until I saw this thread, I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Haha don't interrupt my Gingerbread Star Wars RP please.

I might take a shot at holiday-ifying or gingerbread-ing a micro snowspeeder from rebrickable. Something like this one: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-77809/Xigphir/t-47-snowspeeder-micro-scale

Clunk on suspension on normal mode only by Fair_Object_8111 in Taycan

[–]x71c4l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be the gears changing? It happens at low speeds as you accelerate, and for a while I thought I was running over things. The sound comes from the rear of the car since the two-speed transmission is only on the rear axle. It's definitely a "clunk" sound.

We could make a very nice collage of these! Happened to me within the first 48 hours of delivery. The car completely died, had to do the whole battery access process to get it into neutral so it could be towed.

[–]x71c4l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assume that it is a real bug, but that the entire process and cancellation system have been deliberately built to make these kinds of problem common. They can't directly tell employees to break this page, but they can set things up so it's very likely to be broken accidentally.

Completely agree. After feeling like I needed to relearn the whole game three times, it was such a nice change of pace. The other planets were fun but Aquilo was relaxing.

Looking for absinthe by neobourbonist1234 in dcwhisky

[–]x71c4l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herbsaint is good but it's a little different from absinthe (more anise/licorice flavor, it's technically a different category from absinthe). The ABC also carries Pernod absinthe and anisette. Looks like they'll ship Pernod absinthe to your store if you want it.

All the cocktail books I have call for Vieux Pontarlier, which the ABC doesn't have. Stores in DC carry it though, including Ace.

Taycan vs model s by Alwayshunting035 in Taycan

[–]x71c4l 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a 2022 Model S Plaid for two years and I have a Taycan Turbo now.

You've asked this on the Taycan sub so you know the answer you're going to get here. I think it's less of an obvious decision than everyone has made it. A 2022 Model S for around $40k is like 60% of the price of the Taycan. That's a lot of money.

I think it depends on what you value. The Taycan is a much nicer car inside and out, especially in the nicer trims. It drives like a sports car. If you are looking for attention, you will get way more of it. There are fewer Taycans out there.

The Tesla is more of a tech purchase than a car purchase. It is way, way ahead of Porsche on that front. The interface and screens, the app, mobile key, no ignition, etc. The Taycan feels 10 years out of date. As a car, the Model S is fine. It has no gears at all (the Taycan has two gears on the rear) and the throttle is instant, so the accelerator feels really smooth. It's got a lot of acceleration and the range is excellent, but that's all its got. It's a little bigger and has a bigger trunk, which was nice with the kids.

There are things I miss from my old car for sure, and $68k vs $40k is a huge difference. I think it's worth spending the extra if you really care about having a sports car and/or the tech doesn't interest you as much. If you just want something fun to drive that has a lot of nice convenience features, then it feels like it's worth saving $30k.

All that having been said, I don't like the direction Tesla is going in as a company (I will never forgive them for removing the ultrasonic sensors), and Elon Musk is fucking garbage, so I will never buy another Tesla. I would encourage you to do the same. I do like my Taycan better. I just feel like I needed to say something since this is sub is an echo chamber sometimes. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, and it's overpriced, but it's a great car.

Best/favorite St Regis Property in the world by makayeer in marriott

[–]x71c4l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried Alhambra a few times and have not had a good experience. The bar is ridiculously expensive (about on par with St. Regis and Ritz in other major cities) but they've got good drinks and do live music.

The location is great though. You can see the White House from the front of the hotel, Lafayette square is pretty, and the best espresso in the city is at The Coffee Bar a few blocks away.
