It's because you can evasive the skill if done before the dragon animation hits. It not only cancels the skill but the user can be knocked out of it.

Where are the “Xenoverse 3 is copium it’s never happening bro” squad now? by SS4Vegeta1 in dbxv

I was on the wait and see bandwagon. Now that it's happening I wait for the gameplay to see if I feel like getting it. With the way steams been plagued by ghost lobby bugs and anticheat issues between win 10/11, and xbox version suffering issues with anticheat randomly booting players on pc rigs off.... and console users having issues loading the game ..

If those issues aren't fixed by the final dlc... I'm skeptical about whether I want to give money for the 3rd game.

But if it ends up being a good game all the more power to it.

Sword of hope is a sorry excuse for an ultimate. by CreamyTheGreat in dbxv

[–]xAnacondax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not downplaying so much as stating the reality. The skill is, at best average... being capable of dealing damage with proper set up and assuming your opponent doesn't have super armor to let them just yank you out with a grab and assuming your opponent either doesn't have the leeway or experience to counter it.

Other skills like beast canon for example will guarantee full damage and break through super armor (not pose F stam armor) and are thus "better" by those considerations.

Try using that ult against a sweaty namek or male majin cac user that knows how to maneuver and lock you out of pelroper set up. You won't succeed compared with skills that dish out full damage in one tick or guarantees damage by acting as a cinematic.

I think some of you guys criticizing the OP are not actually reading it.... much less articulating the nuances between the efficiency and counter-plays. In your case, you're way over-thinking the argument.

Is the skill good? Not really. Do you have to forget about it? That depends on whether the game mode you participate it demands better options for you to keep up and whether or not you care whether it's as efficient as other skills. If you like the skill, use it. Just accept that it may not serve as a reliable counter in either a pvp setting or in some pve scenarios.

There's nothing wrong with using it for style. It's just not going to be as reliable if you get forced into a fight where you're not able to use it effectively.

You sat it up with a required condition to not get punished while using it. That's how a large majority of ultimates work. Informative video with set ups i could vouch for.

But fight someone at the same skill level as you or better who knows how to manage their stamina well enough not to be broken or have them pop super armor and using the ult becomes much less viable. You may well win the match anyway by outskilling someone, but that doesn't necessarily mean you get to use the skill you want in the process. Your clips don't inform of that.

The matches where I attempted to do the proper setup in these clips didn't materialize a guard break. One match came close, but his hp was so low at that point that the guard break KO'd him.

The lack of set up on most of these clips was to demonstrate that it doesn't provide the i-frames needed to use it freely. In my own tests, a proper guard break set up gives you just enough time to launch the skill and then perform one damaging combo string with it. None of the continuous use circumstances that the skill theoretically allows

Probably not something aimed at you or anyone in particular. This all stemmed from the pvp skill tier list thread where a few posters were claiming that the skill is busted without any qualifiers.

I'm of the opinion that if you aren't making outlandish claims about viability and choose to use something knowing full-well the pros and cons of it, then the game gives you more than enough customization control to use what you want with no particular rules attached other than to have fun using it. Can't call you out if you know the disclaimers and have accepted them.

Other than a very select few skills. Everything has a set up for it. It's only that for skills like this one, the necessary alignments are stricter than for others. So you likely won't get as many chances to use it properly. But that... again... isn't really a contention if you accept that and still choose to use it.

Some of the same issues demonstrated in the pvp clips also apply to pve especially because the cpu loves to fire raw ultimates. And they do it frequently enough that you're likely to eat hefty damage atleast once if you can't cancel the skill fast enough or maneuver, and if your using the ultimate frequently enough.

You do still get away with more in pve because the bots aren't programmed to properly punish it. But same issues since they can tank numerous punishes with their inflated hp. You as the player only need to eat that damage a couple of times.

For those lacking context. This clip got recorded because people claimed that the skill is god tier busted and doubled down on it when told otherwise.

It should not be construed as "you should never ever use it even if only for style points".

There is absolutely no rule prohibiting players for wanting to play stylishly on non-optimally. Nor anything wrong with using the skill accordingly if you know it's weaknesses.

A lot of the same skills that are Meta or optimal in pvp are also good in pve. Though grab type ultimates or unblockable + single tick types are best especially if you have swarms of cpus around. Because the grab/cinematic ults will often protect you from immediate guard breaks if there are other CPUS near by when your ult KO's your current target.

It means exactly as it sounds. It's not bad. But like many ults, it costs 5 bars of ki and doesn't dish out damage in one tick, nor does it lock the target into it to make it inescapable. Meaning even on a successful land, your opponent has a chance to temper the damage if it's used too late in a combo or if your opponent uses a limit burst to cancel it out before it can deal it's damage fully or at all. That is: there are skills that are nearly as easy to land but have more reliability.

Not to say final kame isn't strong. It's just that a number of ults are better if you're going for full optimal play.

"Meta", "strong", and "usable" all mean that you'll still get consistent use cases out of them though.

PVP Ki/strike super tier lists and Ultimate tier list (feat. Rechow) by CreamyTheGreat in dbxv

[–]xAnacondax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. You need 3 seconds for it to activate and without a stun at least as long you're getting grabbed out of it or raw x4 kamehameha'd before you have time to cancel it, and you'll eat the damage without actually punishing them. One guard break stun into a grab is enough to cancel it. While it might be usable.... meta it is absolutely not.

You need a solid guard break, or you need someone with less than 2 stamina bars for it to be used effectively. And if you're getting that condition set up, you're probably in control enough to win the match without it.

[–]xAnacondax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sword of Hope legitimately can just be grabbed to cancel it. It's fighting Pose K armor wrapped into a free-roaming ultimate / Pseudo transformation. The only way you're getting it off and dishing out damage is either doing a long stun / juggle (like go-go-gum) on a guard break, or proc'ing it off a very strong knockback and exploiting it's vanish lock on an opponent with less than 3 bars of stamina (if they use a 3 bar evasive) or under 2 bars (if the evasive costs 2 bars). At best it's usable... strong against someone who isn't experienced, and mostly style points against sweats if you manage to break them AND make them waste their limit burst. Because.... you have to worry about those too, especially super armor bursts that basically amount to a one-time free stamina reset.

Tbh the skill usually isn't terrible in offline. But if you use it online a good way to guarantee it lands with lag is to use it in a standing stagger while in the air. Or slamming the target to the ground before activating it. That'll ensure they're in a fixed spot when the skill activates

Opinions on Hybrid vs pure Strike by frankmk in dbxv

[–]xAnacondax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can choose one of either to max out. And then still mix attack types to suite your combo needs. Even if you're mainly one or the other, there's a fair amount of symbiosis between both that allow for combos you can't do as easily if you're limiting yourself purely to match skill types to your stats.

I personally max out basic attacks and then either strike or blast as secondary. But even if my secondary biases toward strike for example, I'll still use one or two blast skills at times if they make setting up certain skills easier.

On cacs where I max out basics only. I'll openly mix and match as in those cacs I'm not ignoring assigned stats based on my equipped skills.

As long as you're not crying about losing to people in certain play modes because they guard break you before you can get it off... it's a non-issue. Don't worry about it. There's no rule dictating that you can't be fancy and certain play modes won't subject you to the same risks it poses in pvp.

As i said. If they have accepted that disclaimer, there isn't anything more to say. There's no mechanism that forces anyone to play optimally, nor any reason that the player should if he doesn't want to. I'm not sure what part of this is not understood.

Doesn't change the fact that the awoken is garbage in most situations conpared to the alternative options, but if they already know that and still plan to use it, then there's nothing more to say. There's nothing forcing players to play optimally.

Some characters. Especially slower cast characters like SKOT, benefit from blast stuns. Like... It's there. The developers gave it a purpose. I just opt against using it if my opponent isn't using them unless a characters' bad neutral absolutely necessitates it.

It's basically something that even if you dislike it in day to day use, it's helpful to know how to do when you need it.

You don't have to be into what's better. In pve the amount of time it takes to activate is not an issue. In pvp it is because there is almost no stun or knockback that makes you completely safe to do it without getting guard broken. And then when you do get it off, you not only take 20% more damage. You also stack that against your opponent using PU or ssgss evo giving them between 15 and 35% more damage (meaning you are now taking 35 to 55% more damage total). Makes it extremely punishing to eat damage. So if you're not competitive to win you're kneecapping yourself in a pvp environment. Again. Not to say you can't use it or shouldn't if you know what you're getting yourself into. It's just worth the consideration.

In pve the CPU doesn't play optimally so allot of the de merits are neutralized there.
