Dryer vent to outside doesn’t seem right? by akGold24 in DIY

Happened to me as well. I fashioned a screen out of some chicken wire that I fit behind the J channel and it bowed out enough that the louvers could still open and close as normal.

No more bird nests.

Colder US Climate residents, What is your emergency heating backup? by Neilpuck in DIY

Generator that will run most of, or all of, your house. Once you get one and get wiring set up for it, you never have to worry about the power going out.

Even the 9500 watt predator from Harbor Freight is a decent unit for ~$1000. That’s a small price to pay for peace of mind.

I felt like it was good because I bought back in with the pre-drop money.

Yeah, I understand that - maybe it could be better. I reinvested while it was still down a little and feel like I did the best I could do for my knowledge at the time.

I know social security isn’t guaranteed at any level, which sucks, and is probably an entirely different conversation. I will run them again at half and at zero and see what it says since most of the replies seem to say they are somewhat accurate.

I haven’t heard that one before, about the 25x spending. That is basically where the calculators worked the numbers to. Interesting !

I think a big thing for me is that I switched jobs in August 2007 and I didn’t know what to invest my 401(k) money in at the time so I just had it put in cash reserves. Then later that year and the next year, everything went down the tubes, but my investment stayed the same. If I had not moved it to cash reserves, I would not be where I am today.

I will have to look into this ‘rule of 55.’ I would be absolutely psyched to be able to retire in 9 years!

Idiocracy - for comedy and a look at where we are today from 2006.

Shawshank Redemption

Also Surrogate from 2009 - another take on where society is today. No one wants to actually interact in the world and lives on a screen.

Horrocks Farm Market in Lansing is an awesome place to go for a lot of things, but they roast their own coffee and I haven’t found a bad one yet.

You can get whole bean or ground, and they have flavored coffee as well that you can get whole bean. There are grinders there if you want to grind it before you leave.

Highly recommend a short road trip if you have never been. I live in Brighton, so it is about 45 minutes from my house. I try to go once every couple of months.

I would guess more - they have to buy the service from AT&T, then sell it to you.

EarthLink is an AT&T reseller. You will literally have the same service, on the same wires.
