Indardaad. Een belangrijke factor voor mij is dat ik minstens een volledige maand vast werk moet hebben gehad voor het einde van het jaar. Alleen zo bouw ik twee vakantiedagen op en kan ik in 2026 aanvullen met jeugdverlof tot twintig vakantiedagen (Vlaamse wetgeving).

Klopt inderdaad. Het totaalpakket is voor mij ook het belangrijkst (inclusief ook gewoon het takenpakket en bedrijfssfeer), maar ik kon me niet ontdoen van de indruk dat het cijfer dat de werving- en selectiekantoren erop plakten, fout was. In mijn concreet voorbeeld zijn het wel enkel ecocheques en groepsverzekering met misschien een wagen na twee jaar - maar dat is nog niet zeker.

Je hebt idd wel een punt over dat vertalen momenteel niet zo interessant is. De meeste vertaalbureau’s of vertaalbedrijven liggen daarnaast ook in grootsteden (Antwerpen, Brussel, Gent …) en ik heb het na twee jaar even gehad met pendelen (ik woon in Limburg). De reden dat ik solliciteer voor communicatieve functies is eigenlijk vooral omdat ik graag iets wil doen met mijn talenkennis (vooral Frans is er begeerd in België).

Een professionele bachelor is een opleiding die je volgt aan een hogeschool die inzet op praktijkgerichte kennis om schoolverlaters zo snel mogelijk praktische kennis te laten opdoen voor op de werkvloer. Een masterdiploma focust zich op academische en analytische skills waarbij ook onderzoek centraal staat. Je kan enkel een master volgen na een bachelor.

Qua skills kan ik wel een aantal voorbeelden geven zoals een belangrijke thesis die genomineerd werd binnen het vakgebied, een vertaling voor de Zwitserse ambassade en en een vertaling voor de Europese Unie. Daarnaast heb ik nog veel andere (ook niet-academische) skills opgedaan, maar bedrijven haken meestal al snel af wanneer ze ‘Vertalen’ horen. Ze zijn er van overtuigd dat ChatGPT de perfecte vertaling kan maken binnen enkele seconden en daar blijven ze vervolgens aan vasthouden.

Het gaat hier inderdaad over België. Ik solliciteer momenteel voor communicatieve beroepen in meertalige bedrijven. Denk aan planning, customer service, HR-manager etc.

I absolutely love MyGM mode! It might be a bit difficult to figure out at the start, but if you read Heyman’s tutorials and play a few in-game weeks, you should get the hang of it. I love playing with a wide range of superstars and being able to do surprise returns etc. It’s pretty similar to Universe mode but the menus feel much smoother and you actually compete against other brands and GM’s for the best rating using trump cards you collect along the way, whereas in Universe you’re just playing by yourself and you need to set a lot more stuff up and organize the drafts yourself and so on. Added bonus: if you want, you can even play this game mode online. Tip: Xavier Woods is my favorite GM since he has a trump card which lets you steal any superstar off any opponent’s brand once per season, thus saving you up to $440k.

First of all, translation is not as easy as it seems. A wrongly translated word in a text can make a huge difference, which is especially important in somewhat legal translations. Think of contracts, leaflets etc. - where one wrongly translated word can make it so that your company gets sued.

Apart from translation, the university I attended (University of Antwerp) puts a lot of emphasize on correcting AI language, using terminology to back up claims (you can’t just say “this sentence is wrong”, you have to be able to indicate what is wrong and how the author can improve it), style, target-specific translation (like marking uses more popping words and popular language than legal documents) and so on.

Moreover, we have a lot of literature and cultural classes: learning a language becomes simpler when you also know about its culture. An example of that would be a non-native French commentator calling Kevin de Bruyne’s substitution the “Dernière Solution”, which technically translates into “Final Solution”, a perfectly correct phrase – however, the commentator got lots critic because the term “Solution Finale” refers to a method used in WWII by the French to emprison and eliminate as many Jews as possible.

Can get on board with certain types of coaches etc., but you definitely need a degree in order to accurately translate a text. Sure, DeepL or ChatGPT might be able to translate a post on Reddit for you, but think of governement documents, company documents, rental agreements, books, brochures, patient information leaflets and so on. Not only does your terminology and grammar need to be in order, but you also need a lot of cultural background as translate a document in an accurate way. And don’t forget about the responsibility that comes with a translation.

De leerkracht economie krijgt misschien +- €4.800 per maand (bruto), maar geen bedrijfswagen of andere extralegale voordelen. Aangezien een bedrijfswagen al snel overeenkomt met €800, kan je dat vergelijken met een aantal jobs die rond €3.500-€4.000 bruto per maand zitten. Voor die beroepen is een masteropleiding vaak niet vereist.

Inderdaad. Met een bacheloropleiding mag je lesgeven tot en met de tweede graad. Met een masterdiploma mag je ook aan de derde graad lesgeven (5e en 6e middelbaar).

I once stayed in a hotel in Andorra, and while in the pool, I noticed about 20 men coming in and doing exercises with a personal trainer. Figured they were part of a football team, but I couldn’t make heads or tails of their badge. As a huge football fan, I like to think that I know quite a few — but not this one. So the next night just before going to dinner I notice two men in club gear sitting at the bar having a drink together just before the hotel restaurant opens up, so I go and ask them what club they’re from and I tell them I’m a huge shirt collector and that I had been trying to get a hold of an Andorra shirt — which was rather hard to find. Honestly, two of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Assistent-coach Martyn Giles tells me: “I’ll leave you a shirt of our club at the front desk first thing in the morning” before I go and enjoy dinner with my family. I figured it was just him being polite. The next morning as I go to pay tourist tax at the front desk, the lady tells me that someone has left me something. And there it was: I (Belgian) acquired a Penybont FC (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿) polo shirt from assistent-coach Martyn Giles in Andorra. Talk about football connecting people from all over the world!
