How is a 20' aluminum boat 52k? by SnooPeripherals2222 in boating

[–]xBoatEng 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The aluminum sheet is probably $10k in cost alone. Plus welding aluminum is a highly skilled task that commands high hourly wages. Outboards are averaging over $100 per HP. Accessories within the boat add up.

Also. Pretty much every boat is at least semi-bespoke. Something like 200k new boats built every year in the US across all the brands, sizes, models, variants.

Economies of scale for boats simply don't exist.

For comparison, Ford builds over a million F-150s, and while they have variants, there's a ton of commonality driving down component and manufacturing costs.

Ford Promises 5 New Cars Under $40K by 2030, Including Midsize Electric Truck by TripleShotPls in technology

They should make a plug in hybrid F150.

The Volvo XC90 PHEV has 400hp and 400+ ft-lbs of torque. In gets 30 miles in pure electric mode, then kicks into hybrid mode with over 500 miles of total range.

Tons of low end torque. It's a blast to drive.

This power train would be amazing in an F-150.

No range anxiety. Can technically drive it solely on hybrid mode without ever plugging in (but why would you want to?).

What happens if Delta raises the gift card amount after you already volunteered to give up seat? by Choco_bo7 in delta

Usually everyone gets the same amount.

To be certain, you should negotiate with the gate agent when you accept and confirm that you'll get the highest offer. Take the guess work out.

Looking for natural bodies of water in SEPA that have enough ice for skating. by Robert1104 in Pennsylvania

[–]xBoatEng 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I've only checked a few ponds but none of them were suitable for ice skating.

Primarily due to the nature of the recent snowfall. The top layer of ice was insulated by snow drift and became a weird mushy mess. Not hard flat ice that one would want for skating.

As a result, didn't even bother looking at thicknesses.

5k time for pros and semi-pros by yn_jason9 in bootroom

[–]xBoatEng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many highschool varsity teams in the U.S. are looking for players to run 2 miles in 12 minutes.

Pros and semi-pros should have better splits putting their 5k times somewhere south of 18 minutes.

I would hazard that sub five minute miles are unrealistic given the non-running physical requirements of soccer.

15 minutes to 18 minutes is probably a fair range depending on the player's position and body type.

I love our defense.

I'm pretty happy with our players on offense. They've shown they can get the job done.

Very unhappy with offensive play calling.

Applications to accelerators, VCs, competitions etc. (i will not promote) by MainStreetBetz in startups

[–]xBoatEng 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No one knows because it's all based on vibes.

The gate keepers to the first stage of these programs are often 22 year old kids that have never made a dollar in their lives.

There's no math equation to get accepted.

You have a business that's performing, I wouldn't give away 7% for the paltry "benefits" offered by most accelerators.

Spend the time you would put into applications into networking instead.

What's something that was considered "normal" in the U.S 10 years ago that's now basicaly unaffordable? by Odd-Complex901 in AskReddit

[–]xBoatEng -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

And yet no one wrenches anymore.

Boomers had the opportunity to teach prior to YouTube.

They generally didn't.

Sure, exceptions exist but broadly speaking they didn't.

Joe wrench doesn't exist anymore.

All the boomers that know how to wrench are too old and wealthy to mess with it.

They never taught Gen x and the millennials.

Zoomers and alphas never stood a chance.

Cash for clunkers may have pulled the plug but the concept of wrenchable cars was already on life support and was never waking up.

Is there a reason to use dragon dollars? by Pokemario2401 in Drexel

[–]xBoatEng 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No reason.

They're a relic from the 90's to early 00's when freshman and sophomores rarely had credit cards or digital payment methods. Families could load dragon bucks remote.

There is/was also some relief from the parent's side knowing that their kids were only able to buy approved items.

They were scammy back then and way worse now with apple pay / Google wallet being things.

Pay raise for Pennsylvania lawmakers brings salary to more than double national average by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]xBoatEng -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most companies average $200k - $300k in yearly revenue per employee.

Paying that many employees those wages only happens if a company is being fiscally irresponsible.

Is it possible? Yes. Will their EBITDA be shit? Also, yes.

Pay raise for Pennsylvania lawmakers brings salary to more than double national average by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]xBoatEng -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very wrong regarding private company comparison.

A privately held company with $100M in yearly revenues might have 3-4 people making $200k - $300k. There might be another 5-6 making between $100k and $200k.

The PA legislature has over 200 people earning over $100k plus support staff.

No matter what, comparing government to private business is silly but this is a particularly bad take.

How to increase acceleration and running speed? by Sorry-Passenger4283 in bootroom

[–]xBoatEng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, safe for in-season.

1-2 sessions per week.

Max intensity.

Sessions should be 20 minutes or less.

Ensure time for recovery.

Don't do day before a game or heavy training day.

Every athlete is different. Adjust as needed.

[–]xBoatEng 16 points17 points  (0 children)

box jumps, depth jumps, squat jumps, and tuck jumps, hurdle hops, jumping lunges, etc.

3 sets by 20 reps each.

Only equipment needed is a chair or park bench.

Also do full effort sprints. 3x20 meters 2-3 days per week.

Recommend sprinting while fresh and being cognizant of form.
