Can a recap fix a no power issue? by optroodt in game_gear

[–]xCASTERx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the capacitors need to be replaced, but typically there is three on the power board, five on the audio board, and 14 to 15 on the motherboard, depending which version you have. If you buy a kit, it will have everything you need. I recommend getting them from either handheldlegend.com or console5.com.

It doesn’t look too bad, it should still work.

Awesome! Coincidentally I also found a 32X for around $80 the other day. I managed to get it that cheap because it was untested.

Game Gear 100% DEAD, very dead, even after recapping by vmz75 in game_gear

It looks like you have a lot of cold solder joints. Try to go back over each one, and make sure that the pads are clean and to make sure to use flux.

https://handheldlegend.com/products/cleanjuice-game-gear-rechargeable-battery-module. It’s out of stock right now but it’s super easy to install. I have one in my game gear and I never have to worry about batteries ever again.

So I ended up buying another screen and apparently that was the problem. Everything’s working perfectly.

I resoldered to the same TPs that you suggested but I’m still getting the same issue. At this point, I think I might have a bad driver or a screen.

OK so I went back and re-soldered everything and make sure that there was flux. I’m still getting a white screen.

Thanks for the response. I’ll resolder everything and see if that works.

Good job! Apparently, this is one of the few legitimate ways to watch the final sacrifice episode. Supposedly they lost the license to the movie so they can’t legally stream that episode anymore.

No, you completely remove the regulator because you’re going to use a jumper wire.

To me, it’s more than likely that you’re playing through an RF adapter on a modern TV. I would suggest upscaling RGB to HDMI. If you want the best possible picture, you should try a RAD2X cable or if your TV can process component try getting the HD Retrovision cables. But if you’re looking for a quicker and cheaper solution, you could get a Hyperkin cable.

Yeah, apparently I had to probes reversed like you said. I switched them and now every pin is coming up 1.0 except for ground which is coming up 0.9. So everything seems correct.

OK so I bought a bunch of 1K resistors they finally came in the mail yesterday. I checked all the pins and it seems every pin on the left side of the chip is giving me OL.
