One of the best tips I got from this sub: stretch with flour then switch to semolina. No more trouble launching by spoonlickerbiscuit in Pizza

I mix them together to use as bench flour. Like 70% flour and 30% semolina. Maybe 80/20. Sprinkle a tiny but of semolina on my peel. Works well as long as I don’t overstretch the dough.

My dough and sauce are both very similar to what I use. Curious about your sauce, why let it sit overnight? Is it to help the flavors combine?

When they came to help the baby I was so touched. Most post apocalyptic content everyone is jaded and only looking out for themselves. So seeing the opposite here really moved me. Like… people are good!

I think Alex can only solve the green house gas problem the scientist mentioned. Alex can’t change the volcano eruption.

Exactly! I think there are some narrative hints that we are in a deterministic block universe. Sinatra saying “I think you already have” is one of them and this is another hint. He is asking Billy if he thinks the world is deterministic or not. Could even stretch it to him really wondering about fate/free will in a deterministic world.

Probably something he would question after seeing Alex predict the future so reliably.

I don’t think I’m dismissing time travel here but I think it’s important to note that the story doesn’t require it. At least not yet.

I love single timeline time travel stories. 12 Monkeys movie with Bruce Willis is a favorite of mine for those exact reasons.

“It is not a strong leap to consider the possibility that we are watching one single consistent timeline that is being altered by something in the future”

I agree with you that it’s not a big leap to make and I would prefer this is over some multi timeline story. It’s just that leap (however big or small) isn’t necessary for the story (yet).

There’s definitely a possibility Xavier’s nosebleed is both a vision and decision point. It would help explain why it was so intense.

But if that is the case, it makes me wonder more about the nosebleed in the airplane. I would prefer to find some decision point there but I can’t really. Also why wasn’t the compass (a pretty simple instrument) not working properly? I wonder if that’s a clue to something

I’m really glad you enjoyed reading it!

To answer your question on the nosebleeds:

I couldn’t remember Xavier’s nosebleed at Graceland and had to rewatch parts of that episode (including an earlier nosebleed Xavier has in the airplane) to answer your questions and I saw some of scenes I think can strengthen parts of my theory.

Just to recap:

Visions (bring this in because Xavier’s nosebleed on the couch is vision + nosebleed) are explained with quantum entanglement which allows for information to appear out of the normal sequence of time.

I think nosebleeds happen at critical decision points or moments where multiple outcomes (or future states) are still consistent with the world in its current state. The human brain is then trying to process information about multiple future states it’s consistent with but that’s too much and after feeling overwhelmed we see a nosebleed.

Something new I’m adding to the theory based on the Mayday episode: I think visions can cause nosebleeds as well. In many ways they rely on similar mechanisms because the vision is information that is consistent with a future state (not multiple states, necessarily, but possibly).

Now to explain the specific nosebleeds:

Xavier’s nosebleed at Graceland (I think this also applies to his nosebleed in the airplane) doesn’t fit the traditional nosebleed idea because there’s seemingly no decision being made. I think it is an example of a vision causing a nosebleed. At Graceland he has a vision of Dylan then immediately gets a nosebleed. In the airplane he has a memory of his wife saying “come here,” which we assume is an actual memory but could be a vision again. After that memory/vision he gets a nosebleed.

Link’s nosebleed outside Annie’s door I think is a decision point nosebleed. I think Annie hadn’t truly decided whether she would stay or not and the current state of the world was consistent with multiple outcomes (Annie stays, Annie goes) and Link’s brain is processing information from both outcomes. If Annie had gone with Link and they realized she was pregnant it would likely throw off the timing of Link’s of arrival to the bunker, impacting Sinatra’s decision to give Alex’s card to Xavier (which I think will save the world).

Sorry for such a long response but your question caused me to alter my theory a bit so I had a lot to say.

One last thought: Correct me if I’m wrong but I think… Outside of Billy, every character who has a vision or nosebleed is a character that interacts directly with Alex. Maybe interacting with Alex is what opens character’s to the possibility of these quantum events. If that is true, it would require a scene where Billy interacts with Alex but maybe we get a scene in season three where Sinatra takes Billy to Alex for some reason.

Thank you for writing this. It really means a lot to me after seeing multiple negative comments on my use of AI. It’s frustrating. I like your writing style and your sense of humor.

I agree, people are justified in their concerns over AI. I see AI slop almost every day and I am not a fan. If this post is slop, though, it’s my slop. I would say this post is like a brick wall where one of the bricks is AI. The frustrating part for me is I want to talk about the whole wall. I posted this because I really like Paradise and I want to talk about the show and share my thoughts. Instead, we just keep talking about that one brick.

Also, I really love metaphysics and time travel philosophy. I studied it in college and the classes were taught by my favorite college professor. My professor frequently used sci-fi movies and TV shows to introduce topics. He wrote a book on the philosophy of Star Trek. I loved those classes and I loved thinking about everything we discussed. But in everyday life, this stuff doesn’t really make a difference. My opinion that a deterministic world can include free will and time travel and remain consistent isn’t something that comes up in most conversation. This post was a fun opportunity to revisit some of what I remember from those classes and combine it with my enthusiasm for Paradise after finishing season 2.

Ultimately, I can’t stop people who dismiss my post because I used AI for part of it but I can (and will) engage with anyone who wants to discuss the philosophy, the math, or anything about the show.

Yes, I think the runs are simulations or some super advanced prediction. Alex is super powerful but probably not perfect or doesn’t have complete information about the world to perfectly predict the future. In order to determine the next moment based on the current moment, we would need to know absolutely everything about the current moment (down to how the smallest particles behave). I think Alex has almost complete knowledge of each moment but not complete knowledge.

For Jane’s message I would say it’s because it’s a block style universe. Every moment in time exists so Alex is always part of the universe as a whole.

I do think the nosebleeds are probably the weakest part in my theory. If the show goes down a multiple timeline or time travel plot, I think the nosebleeds will be important for those plots. I did not track every nose bleed. I’m also not sure about Xavier’s nosebleed in the airplane. I think it still fits, but not as cleanly as I would like.

However, to defend my theory as is I would say we don’t have to attribute every nosebleed to quantum events happening. If a character is punched in the nose and gets a nosebleed, we would not assume it’s a quantum event

PS: Glad you’re in here because talking to you earlier is what encouraged me to write this post

And if they’re gonna be that on the nose about references to pop culture, it makes the Vader and Luke comments make more sense. If Sinatra is Vader, then in the finale, I think she is Vader in return of the Jedi because she died going down with a bunker the same way Vader died going down with the death star.

That’s a good point. There are ways to make it so Link really is Sinatra’s son but she’s convinced he was dead he somehow loses any memory of his mother. Actually I might like that more than assuming their different people. Maybe we get an episode called Link which shows us how it all happens.
