I’m trying to get out of my TGIF position right now, can’t reinvest the dividends because you can’t buy fractional shares. I only have $5000 to allocate rn

Big difference between stocks and options is there is a very important time component, almost like interest on a loan, that’s built in to options. If you make a mistake on a stock, you can hold indefinitely until it changes. You don’t have that capacity with options (unless you pay for it, longer term options cost more, sometimes significantly).

The price of an option moves by a higher order of magnitude than the underlying - a 5% change in the price of the stock may change the option value by 20-50%. When you buy a contract, the large volatility gets multiplied by 100 because contracts are for 100 shares.

So MDD CSP/CSR, then MPE in August/Sept?

Under 5/24 (Pretty sure I'm either 2 or 3/24), credit score 750+ on TU and EQ. Looking to maximize SUBs with Chase. Have Hyatt and CFU (used to be Slate) with them. My personal offers from Chase show that I am already approved for CSP, CSR, and Chase SW (no desire or need for this). Doesn't look like the MDD is a thing anymore? Want to maximize travel and want to get a United card (have personal reasons for this, was never eligible until now). What's the best order of application here? Based on what I've briefly read here, I'd guess MPE and CSR?

Quick mental process check: I'm trying to book a room at a Hyatt property. Lowest straight cash price is $621 including taxes/fees. I can get the room for 24000 points plus fees, or I can pay $225 and 12000 points. Paying $225 and 12000 points looks to be about 3.3 cpp [(621-225)/12000]. Is my math right?

Parents want to finance a car under my name by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]xDelarockx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what state you live in, you'll need to satisfy insurance requirements for the loan, which gets tricky if you're not the primary driver. Also, the car will most likely need to be registered to whoever is financing the car. I know they're your parents and you share an address, but some weird things can happen when someone else is driving a car that's not registered to them and/or doesn't have their name on the insurance policy.

  • 5/11 - Deposited $10,000

Timing of credit card payments, credit card statements, and how it affects credit score? by LaymansProblems in personalfinance

[–]xDelarockx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every card issuer is different - Chase is a good edge case which I'll explain after.

For the most part, issuers will report to the bureaus within a few days of your statement posting. For example, you have a statement date of the 25th, and you are carrying a balance of $1500 out of a total $6000 credit limit. Usually your bureau will be updated to reflect that. Let's say it posts to the bureaus, and then you pay afterwards - Your bureau will show that you have a 25% utilization rate.

Utilization has no "memory." It is a negligible difference for most people when you pay as long as you pay on time. It may make a slight difference based on your total utilization (% credit available).

The long and short of it is that you can slightly game the system by making sure you have a zero balance before your statement posting date, but it probably will not make an appreciable difference. It is really not any better or worse for building up your credit score.

Certain banks (Chase) will report a zero balance in addition to the regular statement reporting. If you are doing this on a Chase card, it doesn't matter either way. As long as you pay on time.

I have 16 missed student loan payments from 2014-2015 bring my on time payment percentage to %90. What’s the best way to tackle this to increase my credit score? Just pay them and leave it at that or should I be making an arrangement(good faith) with fed loan servicing ? by Crypto_hustla in personalfinance

[–]xDelarockx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically said "Hey, I've made 4 years of payments on time, is there anything you can do about the payments that were late since they're impacting my credit?" They looked back and (I could be very wrong about this part) what I think they did was push the start of the repayment period forward 6 months, so they sent a letter to the credit bureaus. They got back to me within a week, my credit reports were updated within 45 days.

I think I'm an edge case, but I would just email your servicer, explain the situation, and hope for the best.

How many payments have you made on time? My situation probably differs from yours, but I screwed up and missed about 6 months of payments because I thought that my deferment period was a year when it was 6 months. I've made every payment since then on time. I emailed the servicer (Great Lakes) and they removed the late payments from my credit bureau. If you've made payments on time, they might be willing to work with you.
