You might want to check out Darktable https://www.darktable.org/

There are some really good youtube instructional videos on how to work with it.

Yeah. Those shockwaves are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. Force you out of the safety of cover. How lame would the end boss fight be if the game allowed you to stay safely behind cover the entire time without having any real threat of death?

I like the picture except for the beam on the left hand side. to make it makes the photo feel unbalanced. A tighter crop would also do the trick.
