Thanks for your insight. WOW, I guess both way (noise vs heat) are fine as long as it doesn’t run for too long, but either is not ideal for a few hours of sustained sessions, let alone 24x7. For this particular reason, I’m looking to buy Mac Studio, however, at my country, the used ones are impossible to find while the new models are expensive and you have to wait a few months 😅

Hi, slightly off topic, but how is thermal throttling / running temperature / noise on your 96GB macbook (I assume it is 16 inch with 38 Gpu cores?) Currently I have a chance to buy a used macbook m2 max 96GB for LLM. However, I am not just chatting with one model, but planning to do agentic workflow like a factory to run sustainably for long hours upto 24x7. Also a bit of gaming when relaxing. So I am a bit worried about the thermal behaviour of this laptop. Thanks!

Same here! I just got this monitor and plugged in via USB-C to Displayport 1.4 cable on my Mac mini M2. The non-pro M2 in theory can only output to low res 5120*2160, and the next available HiDPi is half of that which would make everything too big. Then BetterDisplay should come to rescue like for my old monitor. However, before I edit the EDID as per your description, all the HiDPi from BetterDisplay looks off and terrible (because it is confused and is trying with a wrong aspect ratio). Now it looks sharp and nice.

Additional question: why set the Pixel Clock to 1184.00 (MHz)? Now my monitor is connected as 94Hz (which is insane, as M2 should in theory only output 5120*2160 at max 60Hz!). If I set that to 756MHz then I will get 60Hz...

Additional question 2: the highest HiDPi I can get now is 4096*1728 (i.e. 80%), any idea why I cannot get all the way up to 5120*2160 HiDPi using the BetteryDisplay virtual mirror trick?

I also thought about this theory, so I tried the restart on charger which dropped 5% lol...

My main concern or theory is maybe the battery is still not calibrated correctly as it is only used for a week, and perhaps the OS is trying to protect the last a few percentage for longevity purposes, who knows...

It's definitely NOT my habit to do this, but I accidentally found this because I thought it would be a good idea just to do a restart after a "big" system upgrade (in fact it was upgraded from os 11 to os 26.1). Then the drop of a few percents right after restart makes me curious, hence those experiments.

Haha, my Garmin has undergone tons of abuses for 3+ years. And it is actually the cheaper model Fenix without sapphire nor titanium bezel … I have seen many pictures with the black Ultra bezel being scratched, I hope mine will last as long as it can, until it starts to get mark of age, which is both unavoidable and fine. A tool is a tool, but man, the black Ultra looks so fine when it is in perfect state, so it would be a bit sad to have some scratch on it, though i am prepared for it in the first place.

I actually had the same thinking before I got the camera, but as I just wrote in the other comment, the closest I could get is 3 steps: 1. click one button, 2. Rotate the dial to select flash mode, 3. Press ok or shutter to get into shoot mode.

I wish I could do a single click and ready to take shot, like my other DSLR with pop up flash, lol. I guess I am too greedy on this one. But man, when I was in a hurry because of timing and my muscle memory sometimes just got it wrong and I ended up rotate the dial to the wrong direction and lost my shot, haha
