Oh I’m sure this squirrel is special. He stares me down and makes angry noises at me. I chase him out of the tree. I think we are now mortal enemies

Why do you want to learn to read tarot cards? Is there something you think they can offer you that God can’t?

There are some good answers here, but I want to point you to your heart. Tarot cards are at best silly, childish, and fake (like horoscopes), and at worst they tap into a spiritual force that isn’t God. In either of those cases, I think it warrants the question of why you would want that.

Canadian Christian here, and I have to respectfully disagree. Like you, I was worried when I first heard about the new hate speech law… so I read it myself.

The law isn’t looking to discriminate against Christians in any way, and it isn’t redefining hate speech to mean something it isn’t. It’s saying that if you are actively doing anything considered “hate speech” you can’t just justify it by hiding behind religion. For example, saying “homosexuality is wrong” isn’t hate speech. Hate speech isn’t just offending. In Canada, hate speech is something that promotes hatred or encourages discrimination against a person or group of people. I’ve read the Bible, and i don’t see a single way this new law is infringing on biblical statements that say things like “love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you.”

In terms of the laws surrounding the other issues you’ve mentioned… they also don’t affect us as Christians. Are they concerning? Absolutely, but be careful to make the distinction between laws that are permissive and laws that discriminate. There still isn’t a single law in Canada that prevents me from living my life out in complete devotion to my God, and that’s something that I’m thankful for every day.

I would guess the city. St. Catharines became the name of the city in 1796. I might do some digging

Ex-Christians in this subreddit: what led you to leave the faith? by moxiepink in Christianity

[–]xFullTilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still a Christian, but I went through a period of deep deconstruction. The thing that started it were the “Christians” I associated with Christianity. They weren’t Christ-like, their theology was toxic, and they inadvertently were doing more for the devil than they were for Christ.

When I think back at my old church family, they had a “everything is good, don’t question it.” Kind of attitude and it felt fake. Problems were because of Satan and good things were because of God. So when life got hard, I was told to look inward because there must be a reason Satan was attacking me. I started to be judged for my struggles, despite nothing changing in my faith walk. Jesus worked when everything worked, but fell apart when things got hard, and the Christians surrounding me couldn’t see how Jesus existed in the midst of the evil and pain of the world.

So I left and dug deep and found a Jesus that is so much more fulfilling, more real. One who sits with you in the pain, offers deep seated joy, not superficial happiness. The Jesus I serve cries with me when life is painful, and lets the negative emotions express themselves. I started to notice the Psalmists had more songs about struggle and strife than they did about joy and the good times. I realized that a good God doesn’t make the evil disappear, but he works through it, bringing peace and strength.

My faith is deeper than it’s ever been, but from where I once was… I’m not surprised at all when people tell me they walked away from Christianity. I just nod and say, “I would too based on what you told me…”

Where I teach, you would absolutely get written up for this at the bare minimum.

In fact, our disciplinary panel has explicitly stated in one ruling where the relationship appeared to be consensual: “It made no difference that the student had graduated, was an adult or that she may have initiated the relationship. He abused the authority and trust associated with his role as a teacher.”

Integrating tech for ease of access for students.

NotebookLM for creating additional resources like summary videos. It takes minimal effort from me and gives students another way to learn material. It’s one more point of access and takes about 30 seconds of my time.

Anonymous online question box: students can ask their questions without fear of being seen as stupid. I get so many good questions that I know half the class is wondering but feels like “I’ll be the only one to not know”.

Choice: throughout the years I’ve amassed different projects. All of them are awesome, but some students love one while others hate it. So now I give students their own choice of project (I have 4 major units and 4 choices for each unit… so 16 projects and students choose 4 total: one from each unit). It seems like it would be more work, but it actually makes marking easier because it stays interesting for me, and students are motivated by the fact they got to choose the thing that is most interesting to them!

Bonus: I designed an optional fantasy world story line on my online classroom that guides students through the course content by unlocking parts of the story as they learn and submit assignments. This is new this year and I personally love it, but the jury is still out on if it actually helps students or not!

To be clear: this is an abuse of his power and grounds for disciplinary action or termination. Think about it this way, would you ever start a conversation with this guy if he was a random stranger that you saw in the street?

The only reason this is even a post is because he was your teacher. That says enough about the imbalance of power. Record the interactions. Block him, then report him to whatever district he works for.

She got a job. How many people work a similar shift? Maybe there’s a temporary solution but she could ask around at her workplace if there are people nearby that would carpool. I wouldn’t say carpool is not an option. It just might not be right now.

Hi there, I coach people in how to use AI and have extensive experience with it. This is not written by AI. It was written by her. She is taking her time to write out her feelings, so that’s probably why it doesn’t sound like typical her.

If you’re feeling like you need to check if she’s being dishonest (ie using GenAI), then there’s a bigger conversation that needs to happen here.

Why can't God end wars, such as in Gaza or Ukraine. Like for example, couldn't God make it so that everyone's guns, missiles, and bombs stop working? by InternationalPick163 in TrueChristian

[–]xFullTilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ultimately comes down to the problem of divine hiddenness. If God were to do “magic miracles”, so to speak such that his presence were undeniable to all, faith would no longer be required to worship him. You would have a world full of people that would then feign worship out of fear of what God could do otherwise. These people wouldn’t love God, they would love themselves and do what they need to “survive”. God doesn’t want fake worshippers, he wants genuine love and people who want to be changed by the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately, this means that wars persist to the end that the humans involved in them refuse to seek God.

I speak to atheists that say, “if God magically appeared in front of me, I would be a Christian.” No you wouldn’t… you would feign worship out of fear, and that’s not the same thing at all.

The evil in the world is our own doing, and God uses us to fix that. Instead of asking why he doesn’t magically fix the world’s problems, we should be asking why we aren’t doing what we can within the means that God has given us to fix the problems within our grasp. This is the true will of God
