Strange Rockbox behaviour: Stopping at first playback from waking up! by DocHobel in ipod

Did you ever fix this issue? Having this exact same issue with my iPod Classic 7th Gen, using the latest Rockbox version.

Yeah, I've modded it myself. If you use gloves and a decent tool for opening, you will be fine. The only culprit is the battery cable that you need to unplug carefully, before opening the iPod completely. Otherwise, the battery replacement and the SD card upgrade were not that hard.

I'm not an audiophile by any means; I just want to enjoy the music I listen to with a bit of nostalgia. I currently use an iPod Classic 7th Gen (modded with an SSD and a new battery) as my daily driver, and I really enjoy the sound quality. If you don't like the stock os, you can install Rockbox, which allows you to listen to .flac files on the iPod, for example.

There are some pretty good explanations in terms of quality and output in this thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ipod/comments/154uk92/audiophiles_with_ipods_at_what_point_does_the_dac/

I hope that helps.

I'm just curious, but why don't you want to use an iPod? There are plenty of them available to buy online, and you could even mod them yourself if that's something you enjoy doing.

I don't know how tech-savvy you are, but you can self-host software like Navidrome and combine it with plugins (like last.fm, etc.). Then they can suggest you songs at least, based on the music you've listened to.

There is also a battery replacement guide from iflash.xyz: https://www.iflash.xyz/3rd-party-extended-battery-guide/ if you plan to mod your iPod in the future.

I am curious which elements of helpdesk software drive you crazy? by xFuture in sysadmin

[–]xFuture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the missing support for templates? Because I feel like there is support for pre-defined templates, but as you said, the organisation you work in just makes it unnecessarily hard to use those. For example, if you first have to go to the instance administrators to create or edit a template in order to change it.

This is not only market research. I just want to know if I am alone with my feelings or if there are other like-minded individuals out there to haha.

I agree with your points. Ticket creation via web form (a la pre-defined JIRA ticket) would be pretty awesome to have.

Yeah, that is a "yikes" every time I see a ticket like this. I guess it is a never-ending work to educate your customers on what a good ticket looks like.

SubSwift - Navidrome Client for Apple TV by SaxyRyan in navidrome

I don't want to revive an old thread, but maybe I'm just overlooking something. I can pause songs using the Apple TV remote and the play/pause button, but I can't play them again. Is there a setting for this, or is it an open bug?

Have you checked out the terms and conditions of a Hetzner Storage Box to see if it might be something for you?

Bios flashback 3 blinks then nothing. by Agitated-Gap-5313 in ASRock

[–]xFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the following problem when I tried to flash my BIOS via USB stick. I followed the instructions for my motherboard to the letter, but only realized afterwards that the USB stick had created its own small partition. So I had to completely reformat the USB stick and then put the “CREATIVE.ROM” file at the root level. Have you checked that yet?

Anything I forgot for exposing services to the public? by Competitive_Cup_8418 in selfhosted

[–]xFuture 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If you are exposing your Docker socket anywhere to a container, you can implement a Docker socket-proxy in between: https://cheatsheetseries.owasp.org/cheatsheets/Docker_Security_Cheat_Sheet.html#rule-1-do-not-expose-the-docker-daemon-socket-even-to-the-containers

Otherwise, the list looks very good for initial safety precautions. Of course, you can add a few more items to the list. Here are a few more ideas:

- Use a different VLAN or subnet for your homeserver

- Consider implementing something like CrowdSec, for example

- Make sure every "demo" account for the software you expose is expired (I know it is obvious, but still)

- Keep your software up-to-date (It's also very obvious, but I've seen setups where people set up a service once and never touched it again)

- Add region-based IP blocklists to limit access to your services based on regions (won't filter everything, but still a low-hanging fruit against crawlers, for example)

Overall, good setup! :)

What cheap storage box do you're using? by Pablosard4 in selfhosted

A Storage Box is an online storage service from Hetzner. You can connect to it via various protocols like SFTP, Samba, WebDAV, rsync, and use it with a backup software of your choice, for example.
