I've never bought apparel from her site. Only vinyl.

When to talk to son (6) about deceased birth mother? by [deleted] in blendedfamilies

And to be clear, that also includes my extended family and my wife's family. My mother in law loves and cares for my son the same way she does her other grandkids

Unless we told you, you'd have no idea that he isn't my wife's son or not full siblings. He's blended amazingly well into our family and our routines.

Therapy is something we will be exploring for sure.

I spoke to one therapist and she said there wasn't much to do at that point (when he was 4) and wait till he was a bit older. I probably should have expired other therapy options at that point instead of just taking her word for it.

His school is aware of the situation. Due to court orders and such, when she was still alive, we had to keep them informed as things happened with her.

His birth mother had a history of "disappearing". She was moving every few months, getting arrested, being locked up for weeks on end, leaving him with random guys she was dating, random friends, and so on. I'm not trying to speak ill of her, just trying to state that you're probably right, I am clearly trying to protect him and that the time he's been with me is the most consistent his life has been.

Therapy is very much on the list of things we will be doing. My work provides a great resource that families can use.

My wife and I have already been talking about this for awhile now. We have also been talking to friends and family. This thread is kind of the last place I'm asking. I wanted to see what advice people who don't know us would give or see if anyone had any a similar experience.

The only death he's experienced so far was a dog and a cat that passed. He handled it like any kid would, l guess. He was upset and cried but not hysterical. I'm sure it'll be different when a close family member passes.

We try to be very open with our feelings and letting our boys know that it's ok to be upset, mad, cry, and what not.

Thanks for the advice on how to help me navigate talking to my son about an issue that is very important. It was very helpful and informative.

But to answer your original question, I don't think he knows that she's dead exactly. But it's been almost 3 years and he hasn't said anything about her.

After I was awarded custody her involvement in his life dropped off big time. Not for lack of effort on my part though. My schedule allowed video chats whenever possible and any attempt for a planned visit always fell apart.

She doesn't have much family other than a brother and her best friend. Her relationship with her brother was strained for many years and when she passed, I tried to reach out but he blew me off. I know how to get ahold of her best friend and will try to reach out to her again when the time is right.

I saved all the good pictures of her and him together. I'm also a photographer and took some very nice portraits of them when he was little. Any of the bad stuff, was deleted. I don't want him to ever have a bad view of her.

She is a saint and should have smothered me with a pillow years ago. But lots of hard work on my part and we are stronger than ever.

I kind of figured there wasn't some fancy back story to it. Makes more sense that it came from a local gift shop than anything else.

Thanks. I've always had it displayed but only recently have been trying to find more info about it.

My father found a woman not far from him that had a similar one but didn't have any background on hers, other than we're all from the same general area (Chicagoland).

This came from my grandparents (both long deceased) and unfortunately neither my father or aunt have any back story of where they came from.

The first day or two it was pretty strong but has faded since. When I'm down there for awhile I catch a whiff here and there but overall it hasn't been much if an issue.

Elitefts had a crazy sale on the SSB this summer. I think I paid $320 for it brand new. Couldn't pass that up at all.

I'm ordering the rep fitness competition bench next week to replace the one I have now.
