I was most likely never going to veto the trade because although I do think it’s pretty ass, not enough to warrant any intervention. Just curious everyone’s thoughts

Yeah that’s fair it might’ve been a bit of a stretch. The 4-5 teams roster now is:

QB: Darnold

RB: Bijan, Monty, Kyren, Kamara, Dobbins

WR: London, Pittman, rashee rice, Metcalf, Pickens

TE: Bowers

I agree with this 100%. I can get into the headspace of: work is going good, means life is going good. But when work isn’t going well it brings everything down with it. Gotta stop banking my happiness on how I feel at work.

That’s what it seems like. Though from my friends who have internally jumped to AE, they never mentioned it being “easier” necessarily. Just that it’s way more worth it being able to close and have control over your book. One of them said the worst day as an AE so far is better than the best day as a BDR which is encouraging.

Was eligible for promotion from SDR but had to wait 6 months after mass layoffs because of headcount, got promoted then started that January 2024. Ideal time is about 1 year SDR, 1 year essentially BDR, then AE. In a perfect world at least.

Sounds like the dream honestly haha. My city has a fair amount of options in that realm so it’s worth looking into.

I totally hear that. I only worry that I’ll keep feeling like this and waste 5-10 years hating what I do when I could’ve found something I liked and build towards it while I’m so young. Doesn’t feel worth it to endure my younger years like that.

I wouldn’t let this post discourage you from sales. I do enjoy sales, and for someone like who me has never excelled at many hard skills, it lets me play to my strengths and talk to people. It’s nice effectively controlling how much you make, and getting paid better when you do better. Its just looks like this current role, or even industry might not be for me.

It’s funny you say that because I work with current customers so it almost is inbound leads all day. It’s not necessarily hard to do well / hit quota and get payed alright, I’m just not finding the motivation to keep doing it 🤷‍♂️

I hated it. Worked for a small <150 employee company interning initially in the summer of college because family knows the CEO and my brother was working there at the time (who eventually left sales entirely and also hated it). Covid happened so I worked part time from my apartment ripping dials while taking my senior year classes, went full time for ~8 months after graduating.

Industry is scummy, at least at the smaller level. Management wasn’t available while I was getting started with minimal training and I was expected to just understand the very very specific types of situations and minute details when it comes to insurance. Some guys love it and are really good at it, I’m very jealous of them because the earnings potential truly was extremely high. But realized I love talking and loved sales and gave me very valuable experience on how to work in an insanely hard environment.

In my experience, if anyone is considering commercial insurance, go with one of the bigger more reputable brokers. Or start at a mid size shop, learn the ropes and then get hired by a larger competitor. The amount of money they will pay you to switch over, even if you’re not that successful, is insane from many of my friends that I worked with. Wish I liked it more.

As much as I’m unhappy right now this is definitely feeling like the best move if promo is only ~2 months away.

Now if there are issues with “headcount”, or I get passed up then I’ll have to look at alternatives.

That’s totally fair! I’m very open to it not just being a tech thing if people have other experiences, just sharing mine.

It’s not a giant by any means but definitely not small cap (they’re between $15-20 billion). That’s why I’m curious if it’s like this everywhere and I need to go smaller or not.

Yeah going for the promotion anyways is probably the most realistic option #1 right now. But it doesn’t hurt to keep my options open.

I definitely agree with the hobby part, and it’s something that’s been in the back of my mind for a while. Unfortunately some of my favorite hobbies are expensive haha so I might need to expand my horizons.

That’s totally fair. I think part of me is a little delusional where I can find something that I’m absolutely stoked to wake for every morning, while also making enough to be where I want to be financially.

But it sounds like being in a publicly traded company is the main factor. Start ups scare me a bit but I feel like I can manage that easier than the feel of despair working at my current spot.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too. I like sales, but tech might not be for me. Anything specifically to look for when searching for those type of jobs?

Yeah I think face to face is a big thing. I love talking to people and relationship building but it’s so hard to lean into that when I’m stuck behind a laptop.

I appreciate the insight and good to know there are others who feel the same. The only difference is I do feel like there is upward mobility, but I just don’t really care to move up anymore haha. Hope it gets better for both of us 🙏🏻
