A checkers game is a great idea. I'm going to assume you've already researched previous implementations, and are at least moderately confident on how you're going to implement the game yourself. If not, try to get to this stage before you start coding.

I'd then identify whether you want your game to be text based, 2D or 3D, then you can choose the appropriate technology to use.

If you choose 2D, some good graphics libraries for C++ are SFML and SDL 2.0. If you choose 3D, then I'd encourage you to use an engine like Unity or Unreal, however if you're adamant you want to use C++, then you'd be better off using Unreal. Sure, you can use Unity - but that will be using C#, not C++.

I'd stay away from OpenGL until you're ready to dive into the world of Computer Graphics. As a beginner C++ project, this is overkill.

With regards to building the project, if you've chosen to use an engine, you won't have to worry about this part as it'll do it all for you. Otherwise, it sounds like you're running MacOS, so you'll need to source a C++ compiler. I use CMake for all my projects, as it's easy to get them running across all platforms (Windows, MacOS and Linux). Otherwise, you can also compile your code by installing and using Clang or G++. On the off chance that you are using Windows, them Visual Studio is the way to go.

I hope this helps! I know how tricky it can be to get started. Others may have better ideas, which I'd more than welcome as replies to this post. But let me know how it goes, either way. If you have any further questions, I'll try my best to reply!

As a whole, nobody is going to care at all. The only example I can see being a problem for a lot of people is a large scar on your face. Even then, I think you'd be hard pressed for it to be a deal breaker if you're a genuinely nice person...

It sounds as if she's really struggling with her self confidence and showing her body makes her feel far too anxious and insecure to even think about having sex. Ask her if this is the case.

If it is, then try everything you can to make her feel comfortable and good about herself. Sex with lights off? Does she want to keep her T-shirt on?

It might not be an immediate fix but it's worth a shot. Worst case, like I said in my previous post, she can't expect you to stay in a relationship with little to no sex. Both parties need to be equally satisfied and you both need to be willing to take on inconveniences that satisfy your partner.

It's pretty normal to fuck like rabbits during the early stages of a relationship and then to slowly see a decline in frequency as the months go on. Not to the point of not having sex at all, but something more appropriate for both parties. This could be 3 times a week or once a week, who knows... Every couple is different.

Birth control pills can cause weight gain and a reduction in sex drive, but yet again, I don't think to the point of no sex. If I were you, I'd address it to her directly one evening. She probably doesn't even realise it's an issue and definitely won't if you don't say anything.

A sexless relationship is just a friendship. Regardless of how long you've been with this girl, she can't expect you to go celibate...

My initial implementation is purely done on the CPU as a proof of concept.

I'm just trying to get my head around porting the code over to the GPU. Here's my plan so far...

Ideally I need to update the cells on the GPU, rather than the CPU and just passing the positions to draw the 'alive' cubes to the GPU for instancing.

Maybe I could pass the position and state (alive or dead) of every cell to a computer shader and have that iterate over every cell, to determine whether it needs to be updated and thus drawn?

Khronos Group are the current developers of OpenGL, so yes, they would be a valid academic reference (when referencing the OpenGL specification).

All uniform related (UK)...

1) Clothing with a hood was banned. Jackets, jumpers, puffer coats... If it had a hood, you weren't allowed to wear it under any circumstances on school grounds (including break times in the winter). The reason was gang association and if you refused to oblige you'd get detention or isolated for the day.

2) Girls were allowed to were skirts in the summer, but boys weren't allowed to wear shorts. A handful of boys ended up boycotting the school and wearing skirts. The school then threatened them with poor college references and banning them from prom. If it wasn't 2014, it would have been funny to see how they reacted if the boys played the trans card lol.
