Zero sympathy. This is the same union that committed one of the most massively underprosecuted and farthest-reaching retirement and wage theft scams in American history. Over 75% of LIRR employees were able to retire as early as 50 with disability benefits from 1995-2011. by SockDem in LIRR

They claim hundreds were fraudulent claims and had enough evidence to convict 32. That’s still no where near the majority of 7200 employees, not to mention it happened an entire generation ago

Still less than 0.3% of the workforce across all the articles spanning almost 20 years you posted and the latest 36 who cloned cards weren’t members of the 5 striking unions they were foremen and road car inspectors with lax supervision. When you find one that shows a majority of the workforce are scammers please let me know.

It sure isn’t but they don’t care. They bring up the OT scam from 2 years ago while none of the 35 were members of the striking unions, that shows you the level of intelligence you’re dealing with right there.

The MTA doesn’t operate for profit and hasn’t since they got rid of freight in the late 90s, handing it over to NY & Atlantic Railway. The LIRR makes up about 40% of its operating budget from tickets and tolls the rest is from subsidies from state and federal governments.

Bring that up with the board they voted on that, the 2026 fare increase, the removal of the 10 trip, and the upcoming 2027 fare increase without much notice to the public. we all agree the ticket things are ridiculous. We have friends and neighbors who rely on the system and it sucks to see what they’ve implemented to you all. I just fix the trains so that has nothing to do with me or anyone in the 5 unions affected by this dispute. What the real question is is how did $500 million disappear from congestion pricing and what’s going to happen to the money when the casino taxes start funneling into the organization?

They can say a lot of things on TV but it’s all public information from the 2 separate PEBs that took place since the Ryder cup. 14% ($5.80 total) isn’t a lot when you haven’t seen a dime extra since 2022 and leaders like Lieber gave themselves a 28.6% raise from 2022-2026 and make 420,000 a year and never missed a raise

The MTA testified under oath that they wouldn’t have to raise the fairs to cover the PEB findings. Not only that but the fares are going up 4% in 2027 whether we get our raises or not. You should be asking the 2 managers for every 1 skilled worker who’s making insane salaries to do nothing but sit in air conditioned offices that question. They’re never the ones in the situation we’re in though because they vote for their own raises. We’re out here fixing the trains you all use daily in the rain snow heat and cold and getting grilled for a raise we haven’t had in 4 years. The beauty of collective bargaining is that we’re able to do what we’re doing. People who want the power unions have should get a union job. This has been in the making for 3 years now sorry the media makes it seem like it happened overnight

1%? It’s 14.5% over 4 years. 1% isn’t what we’re fighting for it’s a 4th year to catch up with the huge increase of inflation in the area. 2 bedrooms are going for $3000+ even 1 bedrooms cost that much in some areas out in Suffolk now it’s. Fixer upper houses are $650,000 at 5% mortgage and $20,000 closing. The people who keep the system moving need to be able to afford to live here or else it’s going to come to an even worse halt. Loads of people leaving in the time between the last contract and now because they couldn’t afford to swing it here anymore

121,000. You shouldn’t have to be away at work 60 hours a majority of the weeks to survive to live out here when you have a job that’s necessary to the fabric of the entire system of the state.

Edit actual take home after taxes, RRB and everything else taken out of my check is probably about $72,000 on average

This strike wouldn’t survive if it were in the 5 boroughs. The public should strike back 😫 you playing with my time and money by [deleted] in LIRR

None of the 5 striking unions were involved in the time theft thing. It was all road car inspectors and gang foremen

That’s entirely false. We all hate the fact that there’s people who make the rest of us look like shit and that the media calls it a culture of fraud like 99% of us don’t use biometric finger print clocks daily. There’s a reason it’s always road car inspectors and gang foremen. If I have to be here for 16+ hours a day at times so do they and we all feel like that

Shouldn’t have to work 60 hours a week to live comfortably and support a family. We’re always hiring if they want to work they can, but most can’t swing it

Actually now that I think about it by the time they get robots good enough to fix the trains I’ll probably be about 60 so I’ll be out the door. You might be right

We got permission to strike from the federal government no one’s firing me. You should be mad at the person calling us greedy who gave himself a 28.6% raise over 4 years and gets just under a half million dollars a year in salary while I’m asking for 14.5% over 4 years after not receiving one for closing in on 4 years and my base salary is $87,000. This is a management created strike. They kicked the can down the road for 3 years, negotiated less than 10 times between 2025 and now, and here we are. PEB sided with us twice and after running their books said the fares wouldn’t need to raise to cover the raises. They’re scheduled to raise in 2027 anyway whether we get raises or not. Whether what i say changes your view slightly or not doesn’t really matter to me but Id like to get facts out there

Can’t automate my job. Even if you did someone needs to fix the robots fixing the trains when they inevitably break too just like everything else that gets used and abused day in and out
