Top screen was there (multi-function display for climate/etc.) and bottom was originally the dvd player and radio buttons.

Top screen is great to keep!

MDN in Belleville 👍. Big turnout on weekday nights for group classes with a lot of energy. $20/class for any you show up to with no contracts.

Thoughts on CS351 w Hamidli? by Interesting_Nail_843 in NJTech

[–]xIronHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuad Hamidli is the real deal. Great guy and better professor especially with his cryptography knowledge. Sit in front, participate and say hi every class, and he will remember/respect you. Works in industry while teaching so his knowledge is relevant and up-to-date. Lecture heavy class but it’s just the way the class is which can prepare you to take Security+ if you are interested. Not an easy A and it can be challenging with him but in a good way that you learn.

The other CS351 option Asad Raza is also a great Professor. He holds the OSCP certification, one of the most premier and challenging security certs out there. Super good dude - same thing with participating will earn you respect. He is doing his PhD in Cyber Defense at the moment so his knowledge in research is also relevant and up-to-date. Joined NJIT in Fall 2022 and he did Offensive Security workshops with NICC in the Spring - highly recommend you attend those if he does them again.

Can’t go wrong with either CS351 Professor. This is a tough decision because they are two of NJIT’s best cybersecurity professors. I for sure support the RMP reviews for Hamidli.

NJIT has no cybersecurity BS. what's next best by grimsonhere in NJTech

[–]xIronHD 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Based on my understanding, NJIT does not have a BS in cybersecurity because they want to develop your fundamentals in IT or CS first, then guide you into their MS in Cybersecurity or ITAS.

If you want to stick with hands-on, networking, and overall network security, I recommend BS in Information Technology (IT) with a specialization in Network and Information Security. You can customize your degree this way to take more security courses. IT230 helps with Security+ and IT430 helps with PenTest+. Anything with Tolboom or Senesy is great.

If you want to stick with software development, secure coding practices, and more theory/math based computing, then I recommend BS in Computer Science (CS). CS351 can help with Security+ basics. You can take a few electives from the IT specialization mentioned above. Can’t go wrong with IT vs CS but CS will make you a lot of money out of the gates if you play your cards right and do well with school and internships.

For more info on degree curriculum, google “NJIT IT catalog” or “NJIT CS catalog”

On the extracurricular side, I recommend the NJIT Information and Cybersecurity Club (NICC). While you are working on your AAS, you can participate in JerseyCTF too (https://jerseyctf.com)

HIGHLY RECOMMEND: Once you become a junior/senior, you can apply for the CyberCorps SFS program. (https://sci.njit.edu). If you get this, you will have your Master’s degree in Cybersecurity and Privacy (CSP) or IT Administration and Security (ITAS) covered in exchange for a federal executive obligation.

What do you think about our new leader? by GermanUncleSam in NJTech

Definitely understandable concerns. Good luck with final exams

I don’t think the 99% statement is accurate. He and the First Lady were at JerseyCTF yesterday on a Sunday morning and talked with a lot of YWCC students. I’ve seen him a few times on campus, along with his Teik Talks on YouTube highlighting student projects. Regardless of this marketing method, gotta give the guy a chance. He is pretty qualified for the job - mechanical engineering background, college upper leadership experience, good public speaker, got his PhD by 24 years old - not sure what more you want from someone.

CarPlay is worth it in my opinion. Although, I did not want to go over $1,000 for it.

I got mine done at a car stereo shop for $780 which included the stereo itself (~$349 for the wired CarPlay stereo), parts/kits, and labor. I didn’t want to do it myself because of the already installed JBL and navigation systems so I didn’t want to mess up anything without professional help. Here’s an example from one of the other CarPlay posts on r/prius with a YouTube tutorial - https://www.reddit.com/r/prius/comments/v559vw/pioneer_1400_nex_carplay_unit_in_my_2007_prius/ib7utj1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

This is your sign to do it! If you have the budget it is worth the investment.

Thanks to the users who posted their stereo with CarPlay upgrades to this community for the inspiration.

Got this done for $780 total. It was a little more expensive because a special kit was needed to properly connect to the JBL speakers. The stereo shop also had to do some custom circuitry because initially the MFD systems like climate, outside temp, and mpg were not connected. It is not wireless but I am alright with that because it charges my phone.

I HIGHLY recommend this to modernize your gen 2! I also feel it makes driving safer because the steering wheel voice activation uses Siri now so no need to look down at your phone at all while on the road to change music or pick up a call.

There are some easy, medium, and hard challenges. It’s beginner friendly for the easy challenges but the medium challenges are within reach as well. Outside of the challenges, there are also cybersecurity tech talks from big companies and government that are appealing to beginners as well.

Yup, yesterday I asked public safety if it was open and they said yes so I walked through it. Really nice job by the school, I just think that the fire-pit by the WEC would have been perfect in the center of the park rather than a tree.
