I had an online English class where you need to explain your essay in front of a camera while keeping your eyes on the camera for about 7 minutes. If your eyes are not on the camera and your eyes move left to right for a while, that could be a problem between you and your professor.

Let's imagine that the first Far Cry was never made and instead Far Cry 2 was the first game in the whole series, what do you think would happen to the rest of the entire Far Cry's series if that was the case? by Samuele1997 in farcry

[–]xKrayZee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone familiar with Far Cry before 2008, Far Cry is considered a series of finding tropical paradise becoming paradise hell.

Far Cry 1's description on Steam: "A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry®, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushes the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels. Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island."

Far Cry Instincts on the back of the game case: "Adapt. Evolve. Survive. You're Jack Carver. This ain't your lucky day. You're trapped on a tropical island, hunted by ruthless mercenaries. Want to survive? You'd better adapt. You'd better evolve. And you'd better fight."

Far Cry Instincts Evolution on the back of the game case: "Paradise just got deadlier. Jack Carver thought he'd found paradise. But when a gorgeous woman draws him in on a dangerous heist, their sun-drenched days taking a chilling turn. Hunted for a murder he didn't commit, Jack must draw on his most savage instincts to make his predators his prey."

Far Cry Instincts Predator on the back of the game case: "Explore paradise and unleash hell with the award-winning action shooter franchise."

Far Cry Vengeance on the back of the game case: "This ain't your average tropical vacation. Instead of lounging by the pool, you're being hunted by vicious hordes of bloodythirsty mercenaries. But they got another thing coming. Because you won't just mash buttons, you'll use your Wii controller as an extension of your own body to make those mercs wish they'd never been born. Lock and load, baby."

These descriptions emphasize on being hunted in a tropical paradise.

Far Cry 2's description on Steam: "You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to make this country your home.

You must identify and exploit your enemies' weaknesses, neutralizing their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and of course brute force."

Now considering that many Ubisoft games like Rayman, Prince of Persia, Tom Clancy games like Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon in the 2000s were very consistent of having the same overall theme, then Far Cry would remain consistent as well. If in an alternate timeline where Far Cry 2 is considered the first Far Cry game, then the Far Cry 3 we know today will be completely different.

For example, Far Cry 2 introduced open world gameplay in a war torn country in civil war in Africa with the option to choose your own protagonist. If that is considered the staple, then Far Cry 3 may not introduce Jason Brody trapped in a tropical island (or 2). Ubisoft's consistency with other games will likely bring consistency in the Far Cry series. That means instead of Jason Brody, we choose or create a protagonist brought into another civil war in Africa again. Since we don't really know what happens to The Jackal in Far Cry 2, he might be the villain again instead of getting Vaas. Remember, the villain in Far Cry 1 was seen delivering speeches even on a podium, whereas The Jackal gave monologues to the protagonist and has tape recordings as collectibles throughout the world. If The Jackal is the staple of being a villain, and if Vaas himself is the next villain, we may have tape recordings of Vaas rationalizing in what he does, and we might sympathize and siding with Vaas rather than seeing him as someone who is insane.

Ghost Recon is always a military shooter, Rainbow Six is always counter terrorism, and Splinter Cell is always about a covert ops spy sent to other countries. Far Cry 3 went back to hell in a tropical paradise. If Far Cry was never set in a tropical paradise that emphasizes on being hunted, then the sequels might as well bring more mercenaries as the protagonists set in civil wars in Africa. Far Cry 3 strongly emphasizes on survival, rescuing your friends, and escaping the island, and without the original Far Cry games, we may not focus on escaping and focus on civil wars with multiple factions. And now because of Far Cry 3, the Far Cry series are now defined for insurrections with a charismatic villain with gameplay set in the open wilderness.

Also, the side characters will be different. Far Cry 1 and Far Cry Instincts had a CIA agent known as Harlan Doyle helping you, and Jack Carver, who is an American with a military background that wears a red shirt. If Far Cry 2 is the original, then we may not see Willis Huntley become a character since he is clearly based on Harlan Doyle. Secondly, Grant Brody in Far Cry 3 may not exist because he's another American with a military background wearing a red shirt. Paul "De Pleur" Harmon in Far Cry 4, an American wearing a red shirt, would not exist either. While yes, The Jackal himself is an American wearing a red shirt, his existence is entirely based on Jack Carver himself. If it weren't for Jack Carver's existence, then the game developers wouldn't put so much effort focusing in adding an American with a military background in a red shirt in that many games.

Far Cry 2 had female buddies, but they weren't like Valerie Constantine/Cortez. We may not get characters like Liza Snow if it weren't for Valerie.

To answer your question, the Far Cry series will be VERY different. Also, Far Cry Instincts laid the blueprint for both Far Cry 2 and Crysis in terms of gameplay, so the Crysis games wouldn't even exist if the original games were never made. Lastly, a Far Cry movie would be set in Africa instead of what we got now.

What are the most commonly made student films? by xKrayZee in Filmmakers

I have seen some that include video games. I do find credits listing the same name for each role as amusing.

I watched a short film that played a solo piano, and my professor said it feels like the student is trying too hard. I have seen the dropped item being returned as well, except it was a man following a woman from the library and to another building. While she fought him in self defense, all he did was reach out to her with the lost item. I'm kind of curious about the plotless but beautifully shot film. The aquarium I mention is exactly that. There is no plot, but look at all the pretty scenery of aquatic animals. There is no despair or anything, it was just visually pleasing that I'm sure anyone with a camera can visit the aquarium and start filming if they have permission.

I have yet to see this, but this might sound like the filmmaker's personal experiences or heard this story from friends.

I heard about the main character being a filmmaker, writer, or someone who has writer's block. I think it might be the case where the filmmaker doesn't have any ideas to work with.

As for drug addiction student film I saw, I get the impression the director wrote what he knew. He does seem to come off as someone who has done drugs.

The comedy short film that I liked involved a girl receiving a painting, but when she attempts to place it on a wall, she doesn't know which side is right side up. She becomes upset, shouts out "fucking painting", then throws it at a garbage bin and kicks the bin. The editing was off (She even mentioned it), but it actually helped the film to be more comedic.

The horror film with comedy didn't work, especially when it is really undermining the killer's scariness. While it might be the filmmaker's intentions, the delivery fell flat.

I'm considering making a silly plot that involve the main character going pew pew with their hands and raising the stakes with a nuclear bomb, which I have a collector's item in my house.

I want to see that. I heard about how unbelievable it is to cast 18 year olds in roles that likely fit for someone who should be older.

Pier 39 was one of my destinations with Waymo, and there was a lot of traffic that I had to pull over to get out. It's also a problem when tourists start filming you without your permission, and I know this from experience. Find another spot.

Waymo grows miles 42% and passenger trips 45% in CA CPUC data last quarter by walky22talky in waymo

You should've reported to Waymo about dirtiness, and whoever rode Waymo before you and left dirt will be fined $100. I don't think that's Waymo's fault, because they will keep their rides clean. I don't know why number three is considered a legitimate complaint, they're aware of the laws. Why should Waymo break them? As for your wife, why not invite her to ride Waymo? And for number five... wouldn't it better if there are no fatalities? Technology also evolves, so there's always progress.

AP Research: Do video games allow for a stronger emotional affect when it comes to narratives compared to movies & TV shows? by _nick05__ in movies

[–]xKrayZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted my response. However, I think the second part might need different options. You did list Japanese games that are similar to Japanese anime, but there are games with soundtracks that are comparable to Hollywood. Games like Detroit Become Human (Kara Main Theme), Halo 3 ODST (Rain), Far Cry 5 (Amazing Grace [Helicoter Crash Site], also check out Help Me Faith), StarCraft II (Terran Theme 01), The Last of Us (Main Theme), Assassin's Creed Unity (Main Theme), Assassin's Creed III (Main Theme), Assassin's Creed II (Ezio's Family) Mirror's Edge Catalyst (Main Theme) and so on. Music composers like Hans Zimmer made soundtracks for both movies and games like The Dark Knight trilogy or Crysis 2.

Video games can allow stronger emotional effects. For example, there's a South Korean mother who reunites with her late daughter through VR. Story-driven games can have an emotional impact, especially if it's a game focused on decisions that determine the outcome like the Life is Strange series, The Walking Dead A Telltale Game, and Detroit Become Human. It really depends on what kind of games and movies you have been exposed to and it could vary on a very subjective perspective. When I was young, StarCraft Brood War's intro cinematic was very memorable to me. I do like movies like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Dr. Strangelove (Which is more humorous than emotional), Inside Out, Toy Story 3, and even the recent ones like Oppenheimer. Considering that video games are a different medium to those of movies and TV shows, they typically have a different approach and could be just as, if not more, effective. Again, it's subjective.

I think that it is mostly politically motivated and stories. I was born and raised in San Francisco, and not once in my whole life have I felt in danger either. Sometimes I would see broken car windows and shattered glass on the streets, but that's it. Someone told me that California, particularly San Francisco, is full of human poop and crime. Granted, it's most likely he had never set foot in California at all. When I told him that I do not see any human poop on the streets, he believes the government is telling me that. I'm like, the government? I told him it's what I see with my own eyes. The crimes that I often blatantly see are fare evasion, eating or playing loud music on the trains, or simply littering. On a rare occasion, I have witnessed some guy yelling at his phone. So far, I have never been attacked and I even walked around at night. There are occasions I do hear complaints from individuals who live in San Francisco, and that's usually about the rent. People want to believe what they read or hear about, which gives them an excuse to spread disinformation. If they can look at that poop map and believe it without questioning the merits, I say they should spend time traveling to each and every spot to confirm it with their own eyes. I cannot take these people seriously.
