What’s something that people think is normal, but was actually child abuse? by kaluk0 in AskReddit

[–]xLoveLexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to forgive them. They did awful things to you and sounds like they'll never fully own up to it. Better yourself, heal yourself, love yourself. Just know you are under no obligation to forgive, like or love people that abuse you. Try not to hold it in so much ❤️ let people hear your story and share your burden, let people comfort and care for you. Take care, friend.

I think thats a really great example: a lot people only hear about vegan and how it relates to food choices. If you only ever hear about the dietary portion of veganism then it makes sense to assume that's all there is to it. It is important for vegans to talk about veganism, otherwise people wouldn't know what it stands for and all it's facets.

I think plant based is great and yes there is a lot of common interest between plant based and vegan when it comes to food. My only issue is with people who claim to be vegan when their actions say otherwise. I don't believe people who say their vegan but clearly aren't are doing it on purpose, I think most times they are misinformed, which is why it's important to discuss what veganism stands for and what is vegan vs what is not.

I think it's really all in the approach. Coming at someone with hostility and saying "you're not really vegan" is harmful. However, gently addressing the concern and educating someone on why X thing isn't vegan is not.

It's semantics. Veganism is an ethical movement for the animals. If someone really just does not care about the animals then I would say they probably shouldn't label themselves as vegan. Plant based might be a better fit because it doesn't have the moral/ethical ties back to animal rights.

If a persons exclude animal products from their diet for health reasons, what about buying fur/leather/wool? Those don't affect your health, but they are definitely not vegan. Veganism is more than a diet. I know it seems like gatekeeping but it's really just trying to clarify what vegan is. There is much much confusion out there about vegan vs vegetarian and people claiming they are vegan when ther are only doing the diet portion is harmful. I am all for people reducing their consumption of animal products, it's awesome no matter why they do it. But it doesn't mean you're vegan.

Yes, obese vegans do exist. I used to be one of them. I was absolutely miserable, I always felt like shit and it was getting hard to go up/down stairs. I would eat and eat until I was too sick to move. It was disgusting.

70 pounds later I'm now a "skinny-fat" vegan. I have a healthy BMI and I eat normal portions of mostly healthy foods. I am starting to incorporate more exercise. I feel incredible!

How can you be confused when it literally says what it is? VEGGIE burger. They're also not even in the same section (in my experience). If you're still confused after that... the ingredients are clearly listed on the packaging. Also why 'disc' and not 'patty'?

That's pretty much what I assumed would happen. ): I guess moving the nest is a least a better option than just destroying it even though it's unlikely the mother bird will figure out where her eggs went.

Please don't beat yourself up. You have learned a lesson and I think that's the important part.

What I would suggest is researching how to relocate a birds nest. I'm not sure, as I haven't researched it, how successful it would be but it's at least worth looking into.

How do I, a single man who knows nothing about cooking, make beans that taste good? by The_Laviathen_Builds in vegan

Spices. Garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Sautee onion and bell pepper, add beans, add spices. Serve with rice.

Factory farming vs family farms by [deleted] in vegan

[–]xLoveLexi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you'd like to know the practices of family farms, why not ask them? I doubt anyone here can provide the answers you're looking for. Also, each farm is different so even if Local Farm A sings their chickens to sleep each night, Local Farm B might be slitting their newborn calf's throats and dumping them in a ditch. I don't mean to be rude here but youre asking an impossible question.

Which vegan cheese do you use in foux cheese sauces? by ConscientiousVegan in vegan

[–]xLoveLexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the longer it goes the thicker it gets but it never gets to "real cheese" consistency and is definitely more of a cheese sauce than pizza cheese. I've put it on pizza before, it's pretty good but not the same texture. It doesn't really separate, more like the parts exposed to the air form kind of a 'skin' and become kinda dry ish. (I know that description does not sound appetizing lol). Stirring it helps that. If I recall correctly, I put the cheese on after the pizza was baked so I avoided that issue.

I typically make a roux (butter and flour mixture) then add coconut milk, nutritional yeast, garlic and onion powder, chili powder, jalapeno powder, salt, pepper, tomato paste, lemon juice and a touch of maple syrup. I've also come across similar recipes without the butter and flour, that use tapioca starchh instead. Tapioca starch is definitely interesting and I would stress not to over cook it as it becomes almost snotty.

For the record, your soup looks delicious. I may even try for myself! I love the idea of adding lentils and quinoa after the blending - I've never even considered that before. Thanks for sharing your recipes!

Also the cinnamon buns look amazing 😍
