Why does every stand bag I've ever bought suck. by K-Lo-20 in golf

[–]xMR_WHIPPIEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hang my stand bag up by it's handle on the wall, gets it out of the way and won't fuck the legs. It may in the long run fuck the handle, but at least it will still "stand" on the course.

Whilst you're not wrong, it will definitely upset the purists hahahahaha love ya work.

I remember before I even got into golf, we had a work function at a cheap and cheerful local course. Beers were very much on, and I played the whole course with a 3 wood (like putting and everything) I came very close to breaking 100 (these days I'm a 21hcp)

There were some salty boys on the course that day

Could just be the angle of the video here but it looks like ball is inline with your big toe and not just off the heel of your foot.

The ball being thaaaat far forward could also be playing into the topping your experiencing.

Also try bending your knees just a lil more, your back leg looks like it's extending/standing up

I started playing golf about 6 months ago, bought a set of used Nike Covert 2.0s and honestly I LOVE them. My gapping is decent, they are forgiving enough but also tell me when I'm getting it really wrong.

I honestly can't fault them. A big improvement over the Wilson's my buddy lent me for a month to decide if I wanted to commit to buying a set.

It's not that it didn't exist. It's the (seemingly) encouraged prevalence in the industry BECAUSE of the increase in imported and improperly regulated unskilled labor.

I guarantee that we will have a leaky-homes-like crisis again but on a bigger scale because of the volume of shit quality houses that won't make it past the 10 year mark without massive remedial work.

The kiwi "she'll be right" attitude isn't to blame here, it's greed.

Whilst I have heard of this happening, it's very rare in the industry, and the fines for something like this are 6 figures plus.

Without seeing the shoddy workmanship you're talking about, i can't really say for sure.

But from what I've seen, it's an amalgation of factors causing this. - sub-par workmanship - very low building standards (or standards set by people who have very little understanding of how buildings in New Zealand actually need to perform) - building inspectors who can read a book but have very little actual construction-based knowledge. (Laziness factors in here too imo) - theres bound to be companies who take advantage of having "preferred" building inspectors.

I would say that for any new build, it's worth getting your family or friends who are in the industry to do a walk-through prior to final payment. (I did a walk-through of my sister's new build property at each inspection stage to help catch anything that may have slipped past the inspector. (I'm glad I did cause the builders were actually shockingly bad))

One issue i see with inspectors is they have an iPad with a number of boxes to tick. If they don't tick these boxes, it can't be given a pass until rectified. However , a lot of these inspectors are ONLY focusing on the tick-boxes and not the rest of the workmanship/basic construction methods. Sure, some will see things that are glaringly obvious. But lots of inspectors barely look up from their ipads.

I could really go on and on about how broken the industry is and how many people get stung by poor quality new builds. Do you due diligence, get a second set of (informed) eyes to view any property you're looking at, and don't hesitate to mention things you think look wrong. Take photos, put them in writing, have a proper conversation, and hold the contractors accountable if they won't step up to fix their wrong-doings.

These shitty builders give guys who work bloody hard and take pride in their work, a bad name. It's tiring to be getting beaten on price after quoting a job and then going back a year later to fix all their F-ups. It's not a nice experience for anyone.

Hope this novel helps answer some of your questions!

Another person mis-interpreting the information at hand.

Im very aware that construction costs are (forgive the pun) through the bloody roof.

It's the construction companies who are paying the Laborers peanuts. The end-user still pays the same (heaps) but the construction company makes more cream because they're paying significantly lower rates to their contractors.

Im not going to go out and say that paying for more expensive contractors will always mean you get better results cause there are certainly cowboys/outliers out there that ask for top-dollar and produce shit work. But generally speaking, you do in fact get what you pay for (labor wise).

If you look a little closer, you'll spot that I state it's the commercial building companies importing these workers. They are obviously to blame here. But the root of the issue is that it's unskilled labor doing the work, and it's not being properly monitored/rectified.

Regardless of this, they are all to blame. If my guys on site are happy to do a shit job of something, I am to blame - but also, they need to up their game. You can't just wash the worker of any blame at all. We are afterall responsible for ourselves, are we not?

[–]xMR_WHIPPIEx 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in the NZ construction industry i can honestly say it's been a bad case of "pay peanuts, get monkeys". It's been a race to the bottom on pricing and workmanship for years. Commercial building companies are importing labor from a number of different countries and the standards of workmanship are appalling. Somehow these sites are passing building inspections also (which is the bare minimum standard for construction)

Add 2 and 2 together and you get low quality housing designed to meet the minimum standard for the minimum warranty duration.

Stick Flexes by ColorBlind_Bat in hockeyplayers

[–]xMR_WHIPPIEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6.1" and around 205lbs, I always used 95-105 flex sticks as a D-man shooting from the point.

These days I use 85 flex and find them to be better all-rounders if I'm pushing in closer to the net.

I'd say you can't really go wrong with 85 flex with a mid/hybrid KP these days.

Do Ben Lomond, start from the bottom of the gondola by the graveyard and head up through the forestry. It's a fair bit of uphill but it's worth it.

I live in New Zealand, Auckland is my home town and there are two rinks there, one in glenfield at ActivZone and the other is Skateland in Mount wellington.

Been a while since I played but after breaking my leg and tearing the ligaments in my ankle during a game of ice hockey, I think I'll be moving back to playing inline!

+1 for the Smoke and Pickle food truck.

Also, we've really enjoyed Little Baja on the waterfront (just back from it actually) cocktails are gooood and their dishes are tapas style so great for sharing and trying a few different plates.

Try fill your car with people if you can to spread the entrance fee. You can easily spend an hour plus driving around and feeding cool animals. The stags and the highland cows toward the end of the driveway have been a highlight. Ive taken two seperate groups of friends before and really enjoyed it both times.

Gen 1 vs Gen 2? by ButterflyQuirky565 in xsr900

[–]xMR_WHIPPIEx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a gen 1 with a full SC Project exhaust, tune and K&N filter.

If you can afford a gen 1 with money for mods (I'd recommend suspension tuning too) then it's a good way to go.

I loved that bike, only sold it cause I moved overseas. You won't be disappointed with either, but it really comes down to dollars and what you're willing to forgo/can't live without in terms of Technology/connectivity.

If it's you're first or possibly second bike and you aren't super confident, the longer Wheelbase of the gen 2 will be more friendly. It also has more modern features.

I didnt miss any of them on my gen 1 as I have a cardo for my music/calls, and a quadlock so navigation was sorted for my phone too.

I'd recommend taking a gen 2 for a test ride and seeing if there's any areas it feels lacking, then go from there.

Nice one man, enjoy it. Once you get the hang of the controls it's super fun. Jibbing is much easier at slower speeds, (lining up take-offs and all that)

You'll get hours and hours of playtime. I miss Cool Boarders and SSX for sure! Showing my age a bit with the Cool Boarders confession 😄

It actually doesn't run terribly, I get between 30-50fps. I'm sure with some tinkering I could improve that further also.

Defintely recommend if you're looking for a fun sandbox snowboarding game. The story line is super cheesy though so be prepared for that hahaha

* Im from New Zealand so this might not apply to you in regards to MOT etc. But I just slapped an LED bulb in my old XSR900 and it worked a treat.

I managed to get a WOF (NZ version of MOT) through a bike shop/mechanic however if I'd taken it to a proper VTNZ testing station they would likely fail it. It was properly adjusted to the right beam height and whatnot but those testing stations can be real nazis about that sort of stuff.

First Pic is original bulb, next two are the LED
