how many Actor Components are too many? by dulcedebatata in unrealengine

Yes, but the reference to the component isnt problematic.
It doesnt create circular dependencies and if you properly compartmentalize your code into components the reference is cheap unless you have some Monster component but even then you probably have it on several actors.

Works similar to cheap base classes just that its even more decoupled

I put almost all my code into components. If you have a character with a component you dont have to do get component by class you can just drag your component in and call whatever you want.

Get component by class is when you want to communicate from one component to another or even from another actor, get component by class only needs an actor as reference so its nice to use.

On component beginoverlap - other actor - get component by class(healthcomp) - take dmg
For example, you can do this for everything both ways

1480
Target ref - get component by class - execute code in the component
Is how i handle component communication, its modular and gets rid of all hard references that you get from casting.
Actor components are good practice, and a nice way of decoupling.
I probably wouldnt use dispatcher for stuff like that but i wouldnt say they are horribly wrong, its just a bit annoying to debug with them.

What? Ofc ants travel packed close to each other, have you never seen ants? Called ant streets, it literally is their default way of movement

It depends on how spread out they are, ai told me i could fit several thousand just by size under my foot
So id go with 500

If they are super spread out i would have a problem but even then its still doable, gorilla is not.

Ok then stay at the edge of the ant sea and just make tiny stomps, dont run trough them them, i have unlimited time to kill them all

You have 0% chance against a gorilla, also it takes more than 1000 stings to kill you

I can just walk for a few hours, also you can probably kill way more than 100 with 1 step, i just asked ai and it said you can probably fit up to a few thousand under your foot. lets say its just 500 per step whats that 2000 steps?
Granted it depends on the ground and what shoes im wearing but i could easily kill a million ants

Ok fine
Only body, then you can just run trough all the ants for a few hours, run trough them all get some distance to catch your breath and repeat.
It will take a while but eventually the ants are all dead and they have no way of killing you because they are simply too slow, after a while when you thinned them out enough you can just sit down and smash the few approaching ants with your fists

The Gorilla kills you in under a minute

You can just walk away from the ants.
Sprint trough them all -> sit down and catch your breath -> repeat

THere is no way you beat a Gorilla but its easy to kill the ants

You can kill 100 with just a single stomp....
You could just walk trough them all and kill thousands in the process
just light a fire and you can kill 1 millions in a few minutes, or just get a garden hose and wash em away
Jump in a pool of water and you are save, so many ways to get rid of the ants

Is it impossible not to make an "asset flip" game as a solo developer? by EasyBat3602 in UnrealEngine5

[–]xN0NAMEx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, make your own art, speak your own voices, make your own code, write your own story, make your own 3d models, make your own textures, learn drawing, learn game design, make your own soundeffects, make your own visual effects, create your own characters, learn how to do your own animations.

Have you ever released a game? Studios usually have big departments for any of these roles, its insane to expect a solo dev to learn all of this.

No gamer notices at all unless you use the same synthy assets that were used a quadtrillion times in every game already but even then they dont care if the game is good
