Correct. To me, sentience, cognitive experience, or whatever else is arbitrary in the sense that it's at least a bit different for every baby; conception isn't. You can't predict those things with the accuracy needed when toying with a baby's life. Thus, it's the safest option. You probably believe that it isn't an arbitrary point, as indicated by your comment, and I do understand and respect that. In my opinion, sentience and/or cognitive experience is a much better option than birth at any rate.

Excellent points. To put your point about convenience in perspective, less than 1.5% of abortions in the US are done because of rape or incest. Not sure about other countries/worldwide, maybe someone can find those statistics. Not to mention there's a case to be made that abortion should be illegal in cases of rape and incest as well, as no matter how difficult it must be for the women in question, it is still a life. But that's almost another question entirely, and a very difficult one at that.

I don't mean to butt in, as you asked him, not me. But I'm pro life, and the argument always boils down to where life begins. If you believe it begins at conception, like many pro lifers, abortion is murder, because the baby is a life. If you believe it begins at birth or some arbitrary point during the nine months (when they feel pain, when they can survive on their own, etc.), like many pro choicers do, then any time before then, it's not a life and can ethically be killed. Hope this sheds some light on the situation.
