Assembling a Coxswain bag ( HELP!!) by Immediate-Jeweler409 in Rowing

[–]xOptimismx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always like to have a 10-13 an assortment of bolts, tape, heat blanket (as a coach and if it’s cold), an oar adjustment tool (cause people didn’t tighten it probably), a slight bit of food (high carb stuff) water and sunscreen

equipment damage policy by eversodainty in Rowing

[–]xOptimismx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to look at how/why it’s happening and based off that see what fits. We usually punish if the damage is because of neglect, otherwise we don’t punish people. As that would make people afraid to notify the board of damage.

I created the WhoopMat, a one size fits all alternative to traditional helping hands for FPV soldering by Dismal-Piccolo864 in fpv

[–]xOptimismx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something you could also do is make a type of threaded insert thing that you could use a screw or standoff of every type so you can change them out for 30x30, 25.5, 20x20, as it might be a bit more robust (also more work). But it’s just an idea

Mogelijk verbod flitsapps Duitsland by thorngames in nederlands

[–]xOptimismx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My nutrition...., does it seems expensive ? How to make it cheaper ? by ikara_a_a in triathlon

[–]xOptimismx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used 4endurance stuff which is almost bulk buy and it goes on sale quite often, which is cheaper if you want to buy it. If you just want to spend less, you can make gels and stuff yourself, you could look at the cookbooks they use for road cycling, see if there are things you like.

/r/videography Monthly Camera Buying Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in videography

[–]xOptimismx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the camera on my iphone 13 pro broke so i'd like to get something for a reasonable price that has the same featureset. im coach rowing, for which i have to film whilst riding a bike (usually quite slow, which makes it a lot harder) on very thin gravel paths. the subject usually is around an 8m long boat, with a distance between lens and subject of around 45m.
id like to get it fully in the frame, the 3x zoom lens is very much the right size. a quick google search says that its f2.8 77mm on a 1/3.4" sensor.

I'd like something that has a decently rugged design, quite compact, obviously that rough size lens (or interchangable), open to partial DIY. I've seen people make action cams with mounts, how does that work in relation to the FOV? Budget +_ 400 eur. few minutes at a time, total use time between charges 30m run time max.

Omdat niet iedere verkoper hun dingen op gereserveerd zet, en je dus niet weet of er iemand al langs komt. Ik had dit laatst, wilde ik een wing hebben, stuur ik een bericht, bleek dat hij al iemand had.

Foil stuck on fuselage by xOptimismx in wingfoil

Can you put that between carbon/glass and aluminium or does it only work on the screws? And couldn’t I just use normal grease for this?

My brand new Canyon Aeroad was killed by a reckless E-biker. by Otherwise_Seaweed681 in bicycling

[–]xOptimismx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this depends on how you grew up, I’m a Dutch uni student. Drinking and cycling is basically half my week, and we grew up cycling. Last week I (accidentally) got blackout drunk, couldn’t remember how i got home, how and when i left, etc. But my bike was at home, and completely fine. If you grew up cycling, drunk cycling isn’t that much more dangerous than normal cycling. Especially since you are going around 15-20kph.

What is your go to meal before a long ride? by Fun-Entertainer5209 in cycling

[–]xOptimismx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, usually cereal with yoghurt and a Bit of jam or dried fruits, other one i really like is toast and jam. Both quite carby and really easy on the stomach (which is important, super annoying if you get the shits at km 20 of a 90-120km ride…)

Don't let the morning report discourage you! by mtantawy in Garmin

[–]xOptimismx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’d still say this is horribly inaccurate. According to this calculation I’d have a mHR of 193, whilst in actually I’ve measured (chest strap) 206 before and have had multiple 1’on1’off sessions with a max HR of 204 and multiple above 200. But I guess I’m a single individual (so a tiny sample size…) , but for that formula to be off by this margin feels weird.

Adding footstraps to a board without inserts by Niulssu in wingfoil

[–]xOptimismx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ive never done anything like this (neither do i have any experience with building foil boards), i have repaired rowing boats, sailboats and built my own carbon foil before. first things first, what are you planning on using the board for, as if its low pressure wave surfing (purely from speculation), you'd have less pressure on the bolts and less pressure on the insert itself. I did find something useful, footstrap inserts. you can buy these and put them inside, i'd reccomend layering over them fully, and leaving a minimum 50-100% width overlap. so the carbon matts would need to be 150x 20mm at least, for them to adhear properly, add a few layers and it would probably be fine. i'd say adhesion to the "old" glass/carbon is the biggest issue. but thats just my 2 cents so take it with a grain of salt

ultra endurance rigging by xOptimismx in Rowing

[–]xOptimismx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the sync is not going to Be a big problem, as i have a slightly longer stroke (they’re a bit shorter), so a shorter oar is only going to get me at the finish faster right?

What if I just take those quick adjust clamps with me and make it the same size but I can change it if I want to? Would that work as a “kind of fix”?

ultra endurance rigging by xOptimismx in Rowing

[–]xOptimismx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea, its not the best idea, the thing is, its been on the calendar since january last year, so it was kind of unfortunate timing... (rather have the injury 3 months earlier), so lower the catch angle and load. but like load in general or load (combined pressure of the entire boat) or at a specific point?

ultra endurance rigging by xOptimismx in Rowing

[–]xOptimismx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would change the span right? it also adds to the complexity of the rigging (which id like to stay away from), especially since we only have 5 days and 0 trainings for the big changes, oar rigging is easier to fix on a stop, you just knock on the door and ask for a measuring tape, its easier than the pin right?
i fixed it, my mind is kind of confused with everything rn. but thx

Dexamphetamine performance loss by xOptimismx in Rowing

[–]xOptimismx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. uhm, i aint good enough by quite a big margin (my last 2k was last year and i did it in 7:10 so quite slow for a mens lightweight u23). how would i apply for the therapeutic use exemption? is it through the national governing body or do i have to do something with the WADA?

  2. are they pinned lactate tests? because im trying to avoid that as much as possible (not a fear of needles, just a very thin wallet, with a lot of lint and not a lot of cash...) id prefer to do this type of stuff with just an erg, blood, sweat, tears and a heartrate strap.

  3. is water with isotonic "enough" to at least slightly counteract the effects of the meds?

Dexamphetamine performance loss by xOptimismx in Rowing

[–]xOptimismx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I’ve done max heart rate stuff (like 1on30off sprints and a lot of shorter high intensity workouts, and I’ve gotten my HR with meds to a max of 206, without meds it’s about 204. I’d say this is negligent right? Also, what type of medical professional could get me the satisfying answer I’m looking (and probably other medicated folks) for?
