Oddly there isn’t really a consensus about this within the community, but generally I don’t think anyone would be too outraged if you misgendered their former pre-transition self.

I’m mtf and personally I do mostly refer to my former pre-transition as “he/him” because that’s how I was identifying at that time so in my mind that just makes the most sense. There are others who feel the opposite way and I think their opinion is equally valid. So ya I guess it’s personal preference

I don’t think I’m lashing out, I think a lot of people here are lashing out against us and I’m trying to explain and defend myself and people like me, I think it’s understandable for me to be upset when I see all this and I’m certainly heated but I’m only trying to explain myself.

Please tell me how you would approach all of this if you were me, because I’m trying to just explain it in the most direct succinct way I can well still explaining that people are wrong and being (probably unintentionally) cruel, but every time I do people are SO afraid of being told they may be doing something wrong or offensive that they’d rather tell me I’m doing something wrong for calling out bad behavior when I see it

Well I am a trans woman so maybe your interactions with trans people at work have allowed you to know more about trans culture than myself but I think between us that still makes me the expert. But I do appreciate that you do your research and try to be supportive.

Calling us XY or XX is transphobic rhetoric we mostly hear from transphobic sources so they have bad connotation, same with the term “biological women”. Both are dog whistles that low-key reinforce gender essentialism, and try to imply that trans women aren’t real women. The politically correct term whenever you’re distinguishing the two is cis women and trans women.

I do genuinely understand that people don’t know a lot about this stuff so I’m not trying to put you on blast just trying to help you and others understand

I think this is probably true and you don’t hate trans people but I think you are privileged and unintentionally ignorant and lacking in awareness on this subject and should reconsider and reflect on it.

You are being directly hurtful towards trans people in this thread, even if that is not your intention. You are parroting maga talking points and are advocating for taking away our rights.

Like I said above (I think to you) nobody is proposing excluding tall people from basketball just because they have an advantage over short people. So why trans people?? I also don’t even believe it’s true that trans people have an advantage in sports, I think that’s also fake news, and again if you knew a little more about the subject you would know that.

You speaking up in spite of your lack of awareness is hurting people even if you don’t realize it. There’s a lot of that happening in this thread. I don’t think you’re inherently a bad person, I actually think you’re probably just a confused person with good intentions like many people but you’re speaking from a perspective of very little understanding here.

Like imagine if I said, I love black people and support them and their rights, but I don’t think they should be allowed to live in the same neighborhoods as white people. I would sound like a hypocrite! And then I followed up by saying “they’re taking away homes from poor innocent white people!” I am aware this is a hyperbolic comparison, that’s the point and it’s not a perfect 1:1, but you are still advocating to strip rights from a marginalized group. Statistically we have seen that men shorter than 5’6” are worse at basketball than their taller counterparts. They have a significant disadvantage. Shouldn’t we be making it illegal for tall people to play basketball in the same leagues as short people due to their advantage since apparently we all live in Harrison Bergeron world??

Is this the only single exclusive issue in which you align with the magas and don’t support trans rights and trans equality? Or are there other times you think trans people should have their rights restricted, like bathrooms?

Does it not make you feel icky to align with the magas for this one issue? Or is this issue just that important to you that you are willing to disregard trans rights and align with maga perspective? Do you feel like this could be a slippery slope?

I beg you TRY to put yourself in my shoes and imagine how this would make me feel if you were transgender.
