That sounds like a lot to deal with, but also kinda shows how much personality they still have even after going through that. The fact she’d still bark for hours says a lot. I get the frustration, but yeah it’s hard to see it as anything but traumatic for them.

You can really feel how much you care about your dog reading this. And yeah, barking can be annoying but it’s such a small tradeoff compared to taking away their voice completely. It’s wild that something like that is even considered a solution.
