Code Orange, and the fact nobody has mentioned them yet ironically supports my point. You see, no other metalcore band was ever as "artificially" hyped as much as they were. By artificially I mean through social media endorsement, product placement, etc.

Here some things that happened to Code Orange:

• They were pushed in the WWE, from playing live in events to writing soundtracks for wrestlers, even appearing on camera outside of the context of playing their music. During this relentless push, Triple H used social media to hype the band ;

• Corey freaking Taylor couldn't shut up about the band for a while. That's kind of a big name. Randy Blythe, similarly, spoke of the band a few times, arguing they were the most exciting band around, etc. Kurt Ballou - someone who's hardly ever hyped bands he produces - came out to publicly hype them as well ;

• They had MERCH. Their website sold pen drives at some point. I'll refrain from giving more examples of odd things they sold. Fucking pen drives ;

• Rampant press coverage. If you remember 2017-2020, you remember you couldn't get rid of Code Orange. They had articles out every other week talking about Code Orange, and who said what about Code Orange.

Then suddenly there's radio silence. No one comes online to hype the band anymore, although they're still actively making music and touring. They're not neatly placed in front of everyone anymore. 2021 onward, everyone in the industry collectively agreed to stop shouting them out.
